  • Hi! I'm Stephen. I returned with my Dad to the cliffs where I was going to end my life in 2012 when I was suicidal. I had active psychosis from childhood-onset schizophrenia when I was 12 years old. However, life is worth living, and I am pleased I found my way!
Life is a journey full of ups and downs, trials and triumphs. In this post, we'll explore the incredible story of Stephen, who went through some of the darkest moments of his life when he was 12 and found his way back to hope, happiness, and a sense of purpose. Today, we're discussing the inspiring journey of returning to the cliffs where Stephen was once ready to end his life due to childhood-onset schizophrenia and how he found his way to living a fulfilling life.
    Background: Childhood-Onset Schizophrenia
Childhood-onset schizophrenia (COS) is a rare and severe form of schizophrenia that begins in children under 13. Hallucinations, delusions, disordered thinking, and cognitive impairment characterize it. These symptoms can profoundly impact a child's development, social functioning, and overall quality of life. In addition, the onset of COS often comes with a strong sense of fear and confusion, and in some cases, it can lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Living with Schizophrenia: The Struggles and the Stigma
For those living with schizophrenia, the struggles go beyond just managing the disorder's symptoms. Stigma and misconceptions surrounding schizophrenia often lead to social isolation, discrimination, and limited access to appropriate care and support. This can exacerbate despair and hopelessness, pushing some individuals toward suicide.
Returning to the Cliffs: A Journey of Healing and Hope
In this remarkable story, Stephen and his father return to the cliffs where Stephen once contemplated ending his life. This experience represents a decisive moment of reflection and healing. Stephen's ability to revisit where he was once in such pain and despair is a testament to his strength, resilience, and recovery.
Through medical intervention, therapy, and support from loved ones, Stephen has managed his schizophrenia and led a happier, more fulfilling life. This journey back to the cliffs serves as a reminder of how far Stephen's come and how valuable life is.
Life Is Worth Living: Lessons Learned
Stephen's story is a potent reminder that life is worth living, no matter how dark things may seem. Here are some key lessons that we can all learn from Stephen's journey:
Seek help: Reach out to a mental health professional, a trusted friend, or a family member if you are struggling. Support is available, and you don't have to face your challenges alone.
Embrace support: Whether from family, friends, or mental health professionals, accept and embrace the help. It can significantly affect your recovery and ability to manage your condition.
Foster resilience: Focus on building your strength through self-care, connecting with others, and engaging in activities that give you a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
Challenge stigma: Share your story and educate others about schizophrenia and mental health to help break down the barriers and misconceptions preventing people from seeking help and support.
Celebrate progress: Recognize and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Every step towards recovery is a victory worth acknowledging.
    Conclusion
The journey back to the cliffs symbolizes a remarkable transformation from a place of darkness to one of hope and happiness. It serves as a reminder that life is worth living, even in the face of significant challenges. By seeking help, embracing support, and fostering resilience, individuals living with schizophrenia can find their way to a better, more fulfilling life. And by challenging stigma and sharing our stories, we can help to create a more compassionate and supportive society for all.

I love the relationship you have with your dad, it reminds me so much of my relationship with my dad who is also so supportive of me. My biggest fear is that one day he wont be there any more and I'm so scared of being alone with my diagnosis and the severe anxiety and intrusive thoughts I get, I dont know how I will manage without him 😞

I am a father of a young man who leans on me. I worry about him and how life will be for him after I am gone. The concern goes both ways. Good luck to you.

My son had the same eye movement and heavy blink as you, he made everyone comfortable, trusting and happy enough to take our eyes off him. 😭 that was 3 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago his little 12 year old cousin couldn't handle his suicide and she succeeded in suicide also. You never know who is going to follow you. 😭

Oh dear! May they RIP .
      May your family find healing.
My son is presently on his road to recovery after a second psychotic break in February.
The first one we didn’t know what to make of it because he’s always gone ‘off’ at times and we same to expect wayward behavior from him.
Praise God a dream revealed his illness to me. He told me he was ill in my dream. 🙏
We’re learning so much from your channel Stephen on how to help him with his recovery. 🙏

I am glad you did not jump. Did someone come out there and physically stop you or did you realize you wanted to live?
