Karmeliet is my favorite triple too. I get it on draft every time I go to the beer garden. The bartender suggested it when they were out of st. Bernardus and I've been ordering it ever since.

You got a lot of balls taste testing tripels. Those things get you hammered quick.

La Fin Du Monde...Megadeth beer by Unibroue is delicious and listening to Megadeth while drinking it is even better.

There are several "darker" tripels that have been available in Belgium for decades. Tim Webb describes this in his book "Good Beer Guide to Belgium" These brewers tend to use brown sugar rather than the traditional candy sugar that has defined Tripel karmeliet for the last 345 years. I'm surprised you've never seen one before. I've also never seen Chimay White ./ Cinq Cents in a can before. (While Westmalle is credited with the term "Tripel" several beers of the style are available in Belgium brewed to their same recipes for 100+ like years.....like Tripel Karmeliet...same recipe since 1679)

Yeah I've had a few dark tripels like the Bronzen Schild, but they are far enough in flavor profile from the light tripels I would really consider them to be just Belgian dark strong ales. That's awesome TK and several others are still rolling with the same recipe. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Love the videos! Casey definitely knows her beer! If you can find it try New Belgium brewery's Trippel. They also have a honey orange Tripel which is great!

Thanks! We get New Belgium Tripel here. I haven’t been a big fan of it before but should revisit. I know some of their smaller batch beers can be fantastic. Especially their sours.

I would love to do one on Australian beers. We are pretty limited in what we have access to here in our state but it's worth looking in to. Thanks🍻

I think Americans don't understand what a Tripel should be. Especially when you put commercial version (Karmeliet) and American version on top of THE authentic Tripel (Westmalle), which is the reference for the Tripel style. In Belgium, if you do the same experiment, the scores would just be upside down. Like the monks say, if you can tell what it is, you've overdone it.
Val Dieu and Westmalle are references in Belgium. Putting them at the bottom of the list makes you unable to appreciate the Belgian art of brewing

Taste is subjective and blind tasting can always lead to surprising results that don't necessarily reflect what they would be if you have a beer only by itself. But rest assured, there is no lack of appreciation or reverence in our house for the history and traditional benchmark beers. I wanted to get Rochefort tripel in here as well but could not find it in my area in time. I will say the Val Dieu shows much better by itself. Also of note is that the bottle we had was right against it's best by date. So a fresher one might have fared better. Appreciate the comment and insight and thanks for watching!
