Why would we need to become an interplanetary species? From what I know (which isn't much) Earth is fairly hospital to human life as opposed to Mars and especially Venus. Can't do Mercury, and the rest, well, we'll never live long enough to travel to them and if we did, we'd have to live on icy moons with very little atmosphere, gravity, and oxygen.
