      If WJ is using communication to commit a crime then it would be legally justified to limit or restrict communication or visits with certain individuals. Crimes would include: human trafficking, child abuse, witness tampering, financial crimes etc. It may even be a good idea to let WJ continue visits and communication to investigate and build a case against him.

    Interesting that he believed she didn't want children, yet made her a full time caregiver for the children. Either it was some sort of twisted punishment by giving her the opposite of what he believed she wanted... or he knew she wanted children and he was rubbing her face in the one thing he refused to give to her.

      @@Charity-vm4btYour post starts out merely didactic and even a little compassionate. When you say the children must repent for the sins of the parents you sound like a cultist. The children are abused, punished, banished, and of course, are groomed to carry on the work of grooming the next generation. The fact that this strong intelligent woman took five isolated years hoping to redeem herself from the sin (falsely accused) of DREAMING (f'goshen sake!) before making a change just shows how dangerous such coercive control can be. I cannot stomach your assertion that children need to repent for past generations.

      Many other Jeffs wives had children and are happy to have them, no matter how they got those children. My father was abusive, and my mother does not regret one bit that she had us, no matter the cost.

There are certain rights prisoners are afforded, including contact with family, friends, attorneys, clergy, etc., otherwise an organization called the "American Civil Liberties Union" will sue the state of Texas who runs the prison. Normal people avoid court because it's extremely detrimental to health (via stress and anxiety). Antisocial personalities (including cult leaders) do not feel these emotions as deeply, if at all, which allows them to use the court process itself as a weapon.

    • @gunt-her
      @gunt-her 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The act of taking you to court is a victory to them in itself, as the court naturally assumes good faith on their part and forces you to address any allegation they wish to throw at you as if it were legitimate. The technical term for this behavior is "narcissistic triangulation". Of course in theory, perjury is illegal, but in practice, the courts and prosecutors protect it.

    • @gunt-her
      @gunt-her 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So no, laws won't help, as @Exiled.New.Yorker points out, they already exist. The problem is with the system itself, that in practice there is no penalty against lying in court (other than possibly losing your case), and abusers take advantage of this because they don't need to win the case to beat you. There's nothing special about your case, I've seen it happen so many times to so many others.

One of my brothers is LDS in Utah my family has been shunned for 35 or more years now we do not believe in the faith he follows. It’s heartbreaking I’ve never met any nieces and nephews I think there was 6 of them and probably married now. being shunned in the LDS church is not a doctrine, in fact it's wrong, most people that leave the LDS church of course disappoint their families, and most people distance themselves from their family and friends, it's not the family that does it, but they project in their mind that it is the family. I am not saying that some family members get hurt and then try to make the person feel guilty, of course that happens, but in following Christ in the LDS church, we don't shun people like the many accounts given by ex JW's, that isn't happening, that word shun is used now though

    I have watched both episodes and I was desperate to hear that she had found a true and genuine love. There must have been enormous revelations about the outside world and to hear the 'Linda listen' moment be 'no judgement' was wonderful. I'm sure re-connecting with your family went a long way in soothing your soul, and my only wish for you is to be able to sit with your fiancé and eat as much ice cream as you want! Thank you for being so open with your story ❤

    Her correcting the language of the questions reminded me so much of the responsibility I had to manage the public image of my abuser. I had so much hesitation, concern, and perfectionism in the language around him or anything he did. I found myself correcting others in the exact same way. It took a fellow survivor pointing out that I didn’t have to manage his image as I deconstructed and healed from everything.

      I understand your comment and I'm sure she's relieved that Warren is out of her life!! And I am not commenting this out of buyt-hurt - there is no point in being offended about an non-existing child. But I, and many with me, have children with an extremely abusive man. The children are not their father and they are no less lovable or precious because of their father. I wouldn't trade my child for anything even though its father has put us through hell and still tries to do so.
      I just wanted to point that out. I love my child above anything and so does my husband.
      I am sure Ann Mari/Amy would love her children regardless of their father. But yes, ideally one would like to have children with a good father in the first place. The genes take nothing away from the kids though ❤

    I can’t believe nowadays a prisoner can have social media platforms and be in contact with those who were hurt by their actions. I’ve seen TH-cam channels where they’re allowed to post videos from the prisons! TH-cam has been slacking IMO. Anyone in prison shouldn’t ever have this privilege whatsoever.

    • @booksquid856

      I have to disagree on this one. Lots of people are imprisoned who are falsely accused or issues of questionable legality or for even protesting on behalf of their other rights. Regardless, the only thing that makes a free country is free speech. Victims need to get help for themselves so they no longer pursue these types of toxic relationships. There are always plenty more outside the prison and the same mentality of the victims won't get erased by cancelling some other person's right to free speech.

    That constant question of was I good enough or why wasn’t I good enough. So simple yet what a huge effect it had on your life and thoughts and feelings. It’s incredible how damaging this type of constant questioning can be.

    Thank you Ada Marie, for sharing such troubling, traumatic, personal experiences. I'm sure it is exhausting and we appreciate you.
    I need to share, for any survivor of relational trauma/abuse, that there is no "rule". We think there is one, because we are the rational person analyzing what happened to us, desperate to find meaning and order, in the hopes of moving past it. We don't move past it. We move through it, building up post traumatic growth as we go, if we are lucky. If we get lost in the story, we get stuck in trauma responses. Freeing ourselves from that is healing.
    The abuser creates a set of rules and we follow. They are able to convince us to do so by grooming us when we are small, before we can protect ourselves (for me, my parents, for cults, the parents of children are and then they groom the children, whether they mean to or not). No rule has to make sense anymore, they have hooked us into whatever narrative.
    But the rule is described and people follow it. Some are unable to. Maybe they have a stronger sense of self or they are just unable to do whatever it is. The abuser knows that if they punish some and not others, the confusion that follows will further bind followers to them. Division is sown amongst the followers, never ascribing the wrongs to the abuser, only to each other. This destroys collective resistance, leaving those who break away alone and the rest trapped, still.
    I'm 47 years old and come from a large family. We did not follow a religion. We instead, were seen as pillars of an arts-based subculture. I spent most of my life trying to understand why my siblings and I were treated differently for breaking the same rule or what it meant to my abuser in the first place to enact said rule. I had been kicked out of the family at 15, to live on the street, likely because I did question some of it.
    I have come to this understanding: The rule means nothing. Breaking it means nothing. Following it means nothing. Watching each other break or follow it? That is everything. It prevents us from working together to realize we are being wronged and harmed.
    I plead now, to survivors of relational traumas, please look more at what is inside you that had you survive. What is inside of other survivors that made them survive. Look at abuse patterns, not the narrative. The patterns are the same across all of it. The difference lies in the degree of abuse or the largesse of the community who abuse was enacted on and even with that, the damage sustained, the wounding, is so similar that we can help each other.
    All of us can help each other, we just need to see abuse in terms of patterns and throw the abuser's individual narratives in the garbage. We will never understand the story we were given because that is why it was built - to be impossible to understand.
    Confused humans can be controlled, full stop.
    Confusion has been my single most painful state. Despite being beaten and scared shitless on the street, being in jail, the trauma is in the confusion and betrayal. That's the sticky mess that holds us down.
