    As a history nerd, allow me to provide some context to some of these banger bars rq!
    'Cast them in red like a york to a rose'' - obvious flower bar, but also references the War of the Roses which was between two royal houses in England (House of Lancaster + House of York) during the late 1400s
    ''Pardon my french, that's the conqueror's notes'' - References William the Conqueror who famously usurped the English thrown in 1066, and was from Normandy (He was the Duke)
    ''Part with their head, like they Mordred + Co'' - Mordred was one of the key people on Arthur's roundtable and also potentially a bastard son of his, who was beheaded by Arthur himself after a battle
    'Edward shank them' - Edward the First had an epithet of 'Longshanks' due to apparently having long legs ('blades stay long' u get it)
    'Prince in the tower, cause the death ain't random' - Richard III locked his nephews in the tower of London so they could not take the throne, they later 'mysteriously disappeared'
    'Leave em like Beckett'' - references Archbishop Thomas Beckett who disputed with Henry II over if the Church was above the law, which resulted in his death by followers of Henry
    'Harold I'm keeping my bows steady' - Harold Godwinson who fought against the aforementioned William the Conqueror in the Battle of Hastings 1066, is said to have died with an arrow to his eye
    'They be acting like Aethelred, Unready' - Aethelred the Unready was a Saxon king who famously couldn't win the support of most of his subjects, and massacred tons of Danes to prevent treachery
    'I ain't signing Magna Carta' - references the document in which King John agreed to that the king and his government were not above the law
    'Cromwell, I'll cut them to bits and pieces even after they're buried'' - Oliver Cromwell was Lord Proctor of England during the approximate 10 years England was ruled without a monarch, years after his buriel, his body was hanged and beheaded, before his head was impaled on a spike.
    ''Rich in my blood, ain't forget the lion'' - Richard the Lionheart (Richard 1st) spent most of his times outside of England crusading other countries (''conqueror through France and the scottish highlands')
    If i missed anything, can't catch everything I suppose! Amazing song and great reaction as usual, hope you have a good day!

    The sword in the stone was named caliburn. Excalibur was given to him by the lady of the lake

    • @glamourweaver
      @glamourweaver 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, that is a very modern attempt to rectify conflicting tellings together. Caliburn and Excaliber are the same sword in different dialects.

    • @DR_REDACTED
      @DR_REDACTED 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      True Geoffrey's Historia is the first non-Welsh text to speak of the sword. Geoffrey says the sword was forged in Avalon and Latinises the name "Caledfwlch" as Caliburnus. When his influential pseudo-history made it to continental Europe, writers altered the name further until it finally took on the popular form Excalibur. But you have to remember there are so many different versions of the full story that you cant say 1 is wron and 1 is right.

    So kind of explaining all the history references in here to the Kings who aren’t Arthur - that’s who Arthur is effectively dissing/expressing his supremacy to here. This is the legendary King of the Britons (I.e. the Celtic people who are the ancestors of the Welsh and Cornish) telling the heirs of the Saxons he fought - the Kings of England - to take his name out of their mouth.

  • @y0sh_
    @y0sh_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    There's the bar "I'm rich in my blood, aint forgot the lion" which is about King Arthur being the son of Uther Pendragon, who was king of the Britons in old Welsh poems (Pendragon meaning something on the lines of Chief Dragon in old Welsh). It is slightly strange that there is the bit about the lion because wales' symbolic animal is the red dragon while Scotland and England have the Lion(s) (1 for Scotland and 3 for England) and Arthur is Welsh. It's probably just due to him becoming the king of Britain though and the lion symbolises bravery and valour

    • @glamourweaver
      @glamourweaver 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are actually tons of references to actually historic English kings in here. “RICH is my blood, ain’t forgot the LION”, is one such nod to Richard the Lionhearted.

      @@y0sh_ yeah as I interpret it this song is in large part the King of the Britons pwning on the Kings of England who try to claim his mythic legacy (despite actually being the heirs to the Saxon invaders he fought).
