You would be amazed how many boat owners are on the water that doesn't know what side to pass a ferry on. I would have always thought to pass on the left but after I did my power boat level two course it turned out I was wrong so I found it very useful doing the course. And I found out some very useful stuff that I didn't know after boating 5 year before I decided to do the course. So I actually agree with needing to do the course when your in a busy shipping lane.
It doesn't teach you anything you carnt learn off the Internet or by experience . It just seams to me to be over the top and I doubt I'd benefit from the course . But like you say some people would . It's not a legal requirement in this country so I disagree with some councils making it compulsory. Some would find the courses helpful 😁😁
