I love the kit for it's solid build. I've bought several and are using them to experiment with painting. Trying out different methods (brush, paint pen, spray can) to see which suits my workspace and temperament the best.
If you want more simple than the HGUC GM, then you could try get your hands on a workshop grade kit, they are as simple as you can get! And, they're usually free at events which have a workshop.
speaking of SIMPLICITY .................. the SEED ver. of the GM is the Strike Dagger ............... and we ALLL KNOWWW how expensive p-bandais get in the after market .......... =_+

I think this is one of my fave kits. It was so fun to build and I love the mint colour and texture of the plastic. It's so visually appealing

I believe that the early HGUC GM's and Zakus are great for experimenting
i do have to agree, but to be honest at first the mint blue threw me off a bit, because im used to the white and red colour scheme of the GM
