Challenge idea: Jacob, Esau, and Keeper. Play as J+E, but you start with Strawman. If Strawman dies, the run ends. For added difficulty, try for Hush, Delirium, or even Mother.
Matt, didn't know you didn't know this, but regarding the previous video and this one, the damage scaling is not linear. For example, External Item Descriptions usually says: "1 Damage Up," but upon taking it you get 1.69 Damage if you originally had 3.5 Damage. The reason for that is that Damage, whilst not having a cap, is calculated using a square root formula, meaning that the higher your damage is, the less of a damage up a "+1 Damage Up" will be, and vice versa - you gain more stats than the given initial values at the start and less as you accumulate more Damage. That's why, when you had Money = Power yesterday, you noticed that it started off giving +0.09 Damage per penny, but then decreased to +0.08 Damage per penny. The item itself gives you a static +0.04 Damage Up per penny, but the square root formula (and the Damage multiplier you had) made it so you gained more Damage while you had fewer pennies (and, therefore, less accumulated Damage) in your pocket. Multipliers are applied after the calculation, so those are true. An x2 Damage Up from Eve's Mascara will exactly double your damage. There are, however, some exceptions to this rule, "Damage Ups outside the formula," as Bisnap would call them. These are specific Damage Ups that don't go inside the square root (but they still obey your Damage multiplier) and are instead added after. An example of that is Bloody Lust - you get a "flat" +0.5 Damage Up for the first three hits, and +1.5 Damage Up (or was it +1? Can't quite recall) for the next three. These will always appear (given x1 Damage multiplier) as exactly +0.5 and +1.5 (or 1) Damage on the HUD. But such Damage Ups are very far and few between, and the rule of thumb is, if it's a Damage Up, it goes inside the square root. So while there is no Damage "cap," per se, it becomes increasingly difficult to stack Damage with regular Damage Ups alone the higher your Damage is, so it kinda stagnates at the end. The moral of the story is, Damage multipliers are OP.
Also, there is another type of damage up that I think is exclusive to a single item, Ipecac gives you a +40 damage which will disappear if you have a damage multiplier from an item, and other items such as Succubus and Strength Card will ignore it at the moment of applying their own multipliers, sit is always a "((baseDamange+damageUps)*multiplier)+40.00"
16:23 i actualy found this room before, i looked it up and its among the rarest "closet" rooms in the game, and the whole joke about it use to be that the money was completely useless
Great video as always Mattman! Video idea: play through a run with the Excelsior OST Mod (Fiend Folio not required) to get your reaction to it! You can do it in tandem with another video idea, I would just really love your thoughts on it’s music! ❤
Reminds me of Enter the Gungeon's Spice, but without the downsides. To explain what i mean: spice is a 1 time use active item that Every time you use it you increases the chance for Spice to replace an item(like magic skin). At first Spice gives a bunch of really good buffs, including damage. If you use it to much, it still gives damage but also gains the downsides of taking away heart containers, increasing curse, and decreasing accuracy
"First use: gives +1 Health Up, +20% player movement speed, -25% shot spread, +0.5 Curse Up Second use: +1 Health Up, -10% enemy bullet speed, +20% fire rate, +1 Curse Up Third use: -1 Health Down, -5% enemy bullet speed, +20% Damage Up, +1 Curse Up Fourth use and onwards: -1 Health Down, +15% Damage Up, +10% shot spread, +1 Curse Up" Info from Gungeon God, I would link the site but I'm not sure if you're allowed to do that on yt
This item reminds me a LOT of Spice from Gungeon Except that one can spawn as loot from clearing rooms, gives you curse (which increases the chance to find the equivalent to champion enemies in the game and also spawns the lord of the jammed, who is a red grim reaper who follows you across the entire floor and makes shopkeepers close their shop if it enters their room), Spice also at some point takes one heart container away from you every time you use it, but at least it doesn't JUST give you damage, it gives you shotspeed and shooting rate if i remember
I think the item can be balanced by making the punishment way more severe with each pickup, or giving you a small punishment irregardless of whether you picked it up last floor or not
Maybe be something like spice from enter the gungeon where the first few are only stats up but after it replaces a majority of items and has a downside
This type of item reminds me of something that could show up in risk of rain, the binding of Isaac often has more items that are meant to instantly take effect and stand on their own, also Isaac removes items from pools whenever they appear. I wish that there were more items that benefit from stacking them more than twice, but that’s really hard to do in isaac.
Items not stacking is a weird thing tbh, I know it's rare but it makes it painful when you have Diplopia and there is no reason to use it, I once took double tiny planet expecting a double range up (had C Section) and it didn't work.
You could actually balance the item by increasing the chance for it to show up (more like magic skin amount wise) and decrease the damage curve. This would mean that taking the item would lock you out of a lot of synergies for a small damage increase instead of the current big increase with no downside.
One simple idea to balance the item is having some sorta cost to picking it up. Like "Oh you now take double damage" Or "You permanently lose fire rate for each one taken". As it stands, it's basically just a free win to take if you find it early.
I think the idea is to punish you if you don't min-max, like if you can't get into an item room or miss one that spawned in a secret room, but min-maxing is half the game basically. Neat idea, not the best execution. I think I'd see it as a better item if it *didn't* have the scaling, as that'd make the cost being "you will no longer find better items" while the payoff is that you at least have a consistently decent one. Though, another idea is that maybe it turns every pedestal into a choice pedestal (2 but you can only pick one) with curse of the blind? Maybe that's too harsh, but it would give a pretty notable risk to taking it!
You’re supposed to take more of the item, it’s literally reverse magic skin. You are punished for not taking it and rewarded for taking it. It’s also stronger the earlier you find it, so having it as your starting item is busted. I really like this item
@@damaton I was just saying that there are actual consequences to taking too much spice (I don't even consider curse bad tho, sure, jammed king is kinda fucked but the keys being swapped for spice stops being a problem once every chest is a mimic and the enemy health was never an issue considering your damage so you really only have to deal with a single facet of curse)
I think the balance for not taking the item comes from the inherant random chance that you find it in a given run, and how late in the run it is. If you find it early it's naturally going to scale and become overpowered in the late game, but if you're already in the late game, the chance of you getting the percentage high enough to actually see it on a given floor might not be worth the risk. I wonder how the item interacts with someone like tainted lost. Does it break your mantel instead of taking HP?
Hey, im the creator :) Yeah 100% that was the idea for it, most of the time you would be getting like 3ish in a good run which is fairly terrible considering you are losing 3 potential items. Tainted lost will just die since i dropped the development of this mod a while ago and didnt think of it
I think why you wouldn't pick Abhorrent up would be that it requires multiple copies to become real powerful damage ups, but also because it could potentially lock you out if helpful items. Imagine if Dead Onion got replaced when you found it, the extra damage would be nice but your tears would lose both piercing and soectral, meaning all that damage gets wasted by a weak enemy or random rock. It needs synergies so it doesn't start ruining itself with its huge damage increases.
16:42 I’ve seen a room very similar to that on the caves! But it was in a pyramid shape with about 80 coins worth of drops and had Nicole’s dimes and pennies all mixed in! :3
Lazy mattman be like: oh! Look at this cool mod i found! the funny part is the mod is freshly uploaded and desided to showcase it.... WHAT A LEGEND! 👏✨😔
I had an idea for a character where evertime you picked up an item, it's rarity would go to a counter, at 10 enemies get a health boost, at 20 you get a small stats down, at 30 champions have a much higher chance at spawning and at 40 bosses get a health boost, finally at 50 you get a full Stat multiplier down and anything past 60 gives enemies and bosses more health, you start with a pocket active that can be used to remove 2 random items removing their numbers from the counter and it will take double the amount away and everytime you lose 10 points you get a dmall stats up, probably not a good idea but I thought it would be cool
The reverse counterpart of Cupid's Arrow (from tainted items mod) makes playing the game ridiculously stupid by making you fire tears in the opposite direction. The catch is that if a tear passes through Isaac, it gains piercing and big damage. Idk it just looked funny for a challenge to play a whole run with.
