This is the most tragic love story among all operas ( both oriental and western ) . It’s the only opera that brings tears in one’s eyes . In the scene where he wrote the poem/prose , the two sentences addressed between 唐 琬 and 陸 游 demonstrate the deep and intense love between them , the emotions of suffering and longing between the maestro and the female protagonist just break one’s heart ! How he encourages and console her showed how much he cares for her ! At the last act on revisiting the garden , the lyrics are just brilliant, the composer incorporated the poems 陸 游 wrote on his subsequent revisits to the garden demonstrates his regrets , remembrance and how much he missed her is very poignant . As usual his performance is superb , it also showcase the maestro’s brilliance! An afterthought, the title of the opera is taken from one of the poem wrote on his subsequent visit ! This a must see opera !
