I and a friend visited Arches NP on Oct 5, 2024. This park is wonderful with many trails to hike and beautiful scenes to view and take picture. we began to hike to Delicate Arch at 5 pm. we are beginning hikers, but the hike up was doable. We made the major mistake of not bringing strong flash lights. We thought that our phone flash light would provide enough light. We stayed and enjoyed the sunset at Delicate Arch. It was 9 pm when we decided to hike back. It was totally dark by then, and the trail became invisible and much more dangerous. The phone light was weak and did not provide enough light further than 3 ft. We were lost and fumbling around. Fortunately, two wonderful hikers, Lexi and Nate from Salt Lake City, came to our rescue. They lent us a flash light and led us down to the parking lot. They even gave us the flash light as a present so that we could walk to our car. Thank you Lexi and Nate!
I live 2 hours from Mt Rainier. Your video was super helpful. So many trails and camping WITHOUT not having to have a reservation. Just thought I’d let you know. 😊
The easiest way to beat the crowds is get in the park early (before 6 AM at least). Sunrise is a great time to be in the park, parking will be easier, and photography will be easier. Go early, see the sights, leave for lunch, and come back around sundown if you can. It's what we did the first time we visited and it worked out pretty well. We literally had Double Arch to ourselves in the morning for about an hour before anyone else showed up.
was planning a trip in mid Nov and found your channel (and subscribed) . WOW !! GREAT GREAT GREAT information ! THANK YOU !!! Hope to see your out there !!!!!!!!!!!!
my son his handicap and has power wheelchair is good access for him ?? we going to visit early March next year 2025 . i can buy the year pass correctly ?
You can get a free national park pass if your son is permanently disabled, more info here: www.nps.gov/subjects/accessibility/interagency-access-pass.htm. You'll find information on my favorite wheelchair-friendly trails here (near the bottom of the article): www.dirtinmyshoes.com/the-best-easy-hikes-in-arches-national-park/
@@DirtInMyShoes I will be there this week to hike. I want to hit Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches. I hiked Zion twice before. I also want to camp out on BLM land in my backpacking tent, just some place off a dirt road somewhere. Did that last year just outside Death Valley, in NV just east of Beatty and along the CO River in Black Canyon. Was fantastic
We were there April 10th. We went in about 6:30 AM. There was nobody taking fees. We stayed at a mom and pop motel for $97 a day. We ate meals at the food trucks park for around $10-$15 a meal.

Glad you made it out ok. I made that same mistake many years ago -- it is definitely easy to get lost in the dark on the slickrock!
Is it ok to go Christmas holidays week? We will have a plan on that week
My first trip was today. Double arch was great but even the non-arch shots are incredible. One of the coolest places I've ever seen. It was 104 today!
That's hot! Glad you had fun!
This is the channel I have been looking for 😭 Former park ranger, detailed information and itineraries? Yes please ❤
Thanks so much! Happy to have you!

Oh yes, I know :) So many great options!
Love this video and of course your podcasts! I've been to Arches many times and I love it more each time. Keep up the great work, Ash (and John). :)
Thank you so much! We appreciate you!

Have fun!
What about the reservations to enter the park? Thank you for all the helpful information.
I have a separate video for that! Check out my Arches Playlist!
Thank you for ur tips. We're going there now👍👍
Does the park have reservation entry in winter?
No, it's generally from April - October.

Love your channel…wish l could afford your itinerary, but we will just wing it l guess.
Thanks for watching! Have fun in Arches!
Love weather above 100F and prefer camping out on BLM land out in the middle of nowhere (less noise from inconsiderate peoples' car music systems).
The Moab area is perfect for that :)

200+ trips to arches - I could do a book/rant... ;-)
There's probably nothing you haven't seen in that park!
@@DirtInMyShoes Yeah - me ranting won't fix anything. I just stop and thank the park rangers doing speed enforcement when I can...
@@07wrxtr1 I'm sure they appreciate it. It can be difficult always dealing with the problems!
MOAB IS SO EXPENSIVE!
Great video by the way and your websites superb
haha yeah, those gateway towns to the parks can be pretty pricy, especially during the peak season@@MHarvey-tp5km
Green River is a bit further out but less $

@@wwisaacson4807 can you please share the motel you stayed at
is it safe to climb on top of the Arches?
Arches is more of a place where you stand beneath/scramble under the arches rather than climb on top. You'll see when you get there :)
@@DirtInMyShoes I have seen them but I didn't think it was legal or safe.
