    Can you do a drop test of your upgraded vs the original?

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could definitely do that for the fun of it in a future video, but it is important to note that these dumbbells aren't made to be dropped before or after the upgrade. I talk about this in a number of videos.
      I originally created my mods because my SelectTechs were failing under ordinary use and without being dropped. The forces generated by the plates as we go through our regular range of motion is enough to eventually cause the discs to fail. Dropping these dumbbells would definitely accelerate the process. So I created discs that wouldn't fail on me under ordinary use.
      Even when my discs survive a drop, other components may not. The tabs on the weight plates are just one example. Here's what I mean by that: th-cam.com/video/7g99OA4hdFI/w-d-xo.html and those plates aren't cheap to replace. Here's an inexpensive permanent fix for broken tabs if it ever happens to yours: th-cam.com/video/-a-gqVB-oOw/w-d-xo.html
      Still, if folks want to see a drop test down the road, I could certainly do one so we can see what happens. The closest thing I have to that at the moment is a video of me hanging an entire SelectTech 552 off of the lip of one of my discs: th-cam.com/video/06KOk-Ikw3Q/w-d-xo.html

    Random question that you may be able to answer, will these / bowflex made parts usually work with the chinese knock off clones of the 1090 / 552? They look almost exactly the same.

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hiya, TD. OEM and knockoff parts (and my upgrade kits) are all interchangeable for the most part. It's not an OEM versus knockoff thing -- both have some manufacturing inconsistencies. I demonstrate these inconsistencies in videos like this one: th-cam.com/video/FWIXejwvSys/w-d-xo.html and this one: th-cam.com/video/Cp-rs_qNWEw/w-d-xo.html
      In my experience so far with several thousand Bowflex owners, I'd estimate that at least 5% of the parts out there differ in a way that makes them incompatible (or less compatible) with the other ~95%. They can sometimes, but not always, be tweaked to work with your specific dumbbells. Cheers, Joe

    Do you know if there is replacement parts for this dumbell?

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, jdawg. Do you mean replacement parts other than the upgrades that I manufacture? Used OEM and knockoff parts can usually be found on eBay. Whole used dumbbells and pairs can be found on eBay, FB Marketplace, Craigslist and various forums and groups. But if you contact Bowflex looking for parts, they'll just recommend buying another handle from them. Cheers, Joe

    The glossy stainless steel are beautiful 🥰

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are definitely pretty sweet, Sjonniee. I asked the manufacturer to make a few new aluminum finishes for me to test too, just to see how they compare to the current ones. They're doing matte and gloss powdercoat, polished nickel plated, brushed nickel plated and even a black nickel plated version.
      I'm not going to be able to afford several finishes from the start. More than likely, I'll offer two. But over time I do hope to be able to provide more ways for Average Joe customers to personalize the appearance of their existing equipment. Stay safe and thank you for your kind words.

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC

      Hi again, Steven. There are several kits designed to address different aspects of the dumbbell. Some are safety/durability upgrades, while others are more about usability. Cost will depend on how far you want to go with upgrades to meet your needs. More info is available over at: www.averagejoeinnovations.com

    Hey Joe! These upgrades look amazing! I got an Amazon version of the Bowflex 552 style dumbells. The plastic holding the 30-35-45 pounds broke and I don't know what to do. Does any of your replacement parts could work with what I got?

Head on over to my site: www.averagejoeinnovations.com for more info about what I have in stock today, and what I have coming later this year. There's an email link on my site too if you have more questions.

I own and use both OEM and knockoff SelectTechs. My parts work with both. I recommend reading through my website FAQ to set your expectations about my parts: www.averagejoeinnovations.com/index.html#faq. Cheers.

      Hiya, Mike. Among the teenie tiny percentage of Selectech owners that are my customers so far (thousands out of millions) I'm still at about 95% out-of-the-box fit. The other few percent typically need to tweak the discs or their dumbbells to achieve the right fit.
      If you browse through some of my videos, I go into some of the ways these dumbbells can differ slightly due to age, wear/tear, damage and manufacturing inconsistencies.
      Any other questions, feel free to shoot me an email. Cheers, Joe

      Hi Haris, good Sunday morning to you. If you're in immediate need of PB knurled handles, I had heard that a shop by the name of DeMasi began producing knurled grips under the JD Gym Equipped name. If you're in no rush, I've got my own PB knurled SS grips coming out later this year (currently shooting for summer time). I'm also already developing another handle for my PBs that's a complete drop-in replacement. But I expect that to take much of 2022, possibly into 2023 depending on how long supply chain delays continue. Stay tuned!

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heya C! Sorry, but no I don't sell whole handle replacements. I avoid selling any sort of whole dumbbell handle due to active patents. Instead, I sell various kits for owners to perform their own repairs and upgrades since you have a right to repair and upgrade your dumbbells and that doesn't infringe on their patent. Even with the expiration of Bowflex's patent--which I believe is coming up next Spring--I won't likely make entire handle replacements. Instead, beginning around mid-2023 I plan to focus on my own original design to overcome some of the limitations and durability issues of current adjustable dumbbells.

    will the dial for 10-90 still launch in spring ? Thz!

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Yin, summer at this point. Several delays during the Fall pushed all the prototyping and testing back a few months. By the time the first tooling was finished it was nearly the end of the year. Right now the tentative plan is to finish all testing and tooling revisions by March, then begin manufacturing in the late Spring for delivery during the Summer. The big unknown is what will happen to material and ocean freight costs and supply chain issues between now and then. If inflation or any other catalysts drive up costs or force delays, there is always a possibility of having to delay my plans further. I'll keep you all posted here, as well as on FB and Insta.
