It's kind of interesting- and typical- to see people go to the mouth of the gorge (which is really as far as this video takes you), stop at a couple of tourist traps and then say "I've been through the gorge and here it is, folks". The Columbia Gorge's main canyon section is over 80 miles long, up to 4,000 feet deep in places, and the associated geographic area is more than 30 miles wide in some places. I live in the gorge, have been exploring it for some 20 years and still see, as well as learn, something new every time I go out.
Thanks for posting this video :D I once drove along the Historic Columbia River Highway back in 2006. Was a lot of fun :D Been wanting to do it again, but these days I pretty much have to live vicariously through other peoples' youtube videos. Anyways, thanks again. That was awesome :D
Wow, what a great video, is like being there with you in the car, almost 3D! Never seen anything like it, wonderful idea! OK, I don't get out much but do watch a lot of travel videos. Thanks so much! Roberto Santiago from Indianapolis.
Thank you so much for this video .. I'll be taking this same route in Sept/Oct 2016. I also went to your home page and watched the introduction video .. man, what a great video that was. I could recognize most of the places, but not all. Maybe next time put that in the video like you did in this one. Very pleasant to watch .. well filmed.
Wanted to watch some tour towards the mouth of Columbia river and landed here. Still fabalous. Reminded me somehow of the Alps sometimes. Greets from old Europe and Austria.
Hoosier Tim's Travel Videos thanks for the quick reply. I'm a photographer and am trying to travel Oregon in about 6 days. I hope to follow the exact route you traveled as your video's given me a tactical route to traverse the Columbia River Gorge area. Thanks again...
Very nice. It would also be nice if you would show us a little map-course of the journey in the lower corner, or tell us that you turned around or what on the other side of the bridge. Thanks!
This isn't a trail. This was a bacon marker and weather station. The property was once owned by the Cole family. The lower property across the train tracks my great grandfather built house there.
Will Barrett It took me about five hours to do what is shown in the video. But I didn't hike to any waterfalls that weren't very close to the road. You could easily spend much more time than that if you explore more thoroughly.
Story time: TL;DR - contaminated dirt in my town is being moved here. lol. So I live in a small town in Alaska. We were gonna have a huge project that would give jobs to a lot of people in my town. The EPA approved of moving "contaminated" dirt off of someone's lot to a new location. The location was a mile away from a lake. The lakes perimeter had a perimeter of an olympic swimming pool. It was about 10 feet deep at it's max. A lot of moss and algae in it. Home to many small flounders and leaches. It's only good purpose is ice skating in the winter. The people of my town voted and said that the dirt (which would be a mile away) would contaminate the lake (somehow... even though the EPA - the fucking EPA - said it was ok). So now, people are out of jobs they were promised. The guy in charge sunk over $1 million into this already. The dirt is being moved somewhere else. It's being moved right fucking there. I love the "not in my backyard" attitude my community has lol.
The gorge is almost the same depth as the Grand canyon, further on down east about a hundred miles is Hells canyon deepest canyon in North America. With all due respect to Grand Canyon lovers, sorry😁
and now, at the hands of some beyond idiotic kids, almost all of this, currently over 10,000 acres, is now gone and burnt in the Eagle Creek fire... so sad.
OK, don't take this as trying to be offensive, not my intention at all. Take it as it's meant to be, constructive criticism. There is too much annoying background noise, could have been substituted with pleasant music., OR find a way to prevent it. Critically watch the video before you publish and decide how to edit it, for example the beginning (showing the Troutdale sign goes on too long). I don't know why there is no narration, but sometimes there's a good reason and maybe you have one, on the other hand sometimes there is too much narration (not this case), and sometimes the narrator himself/herself is annoying so best to not have it. The video itself is okay.
Thanks for showing this extremely homesick dude his home. I am moving back within a year and could not be more excited.

Very beautiful , I think of the gorge and how it was made to lead to so many beautiful waterfalls ! Love it !
Gorgeous. I love how each of the waterfalls seems to be so different in character.
Hehe, I live there! I love my state and I love the gorge, so beautiful :)

Very good camera work but you missed sooooo much ,I can't even begin to list them all. Like the Inturpitive center/ museum in Stevenson.

wow, i'm impressed, no tour guide! n oregon's still gorgeous-
Great video. Headed to Portland in July. Just curious, how long did the trip take in total?
