Losing the championship at the last curve (GP of Brazil 2008) is nothing compared to losing the championship 0.5km to the finish line (in a 72 hour race), while at the same time your opponent (the one who became champion) has already abandoned and lost any hope of winning
Dont have to compare the two. Both are one of greats moment in motorsport history. This one even Tommi did not even care anymore, he is ready to go home. While Massa and Ferrari and the whole fucking nation of Brazil already celebrating. I can go on for hours on that. Both are great. Shut up.
Luckily it wasn't Mäkinen "stealing" the win in that sense with Sainz's retirement as Mäkinen had been 2 points ahead of Sainz and he retired earlier in the last race.
Reporter- So Tommi, it looks like it's over. Tommi - Well yeah. It was pretty obvious from day one that we weren't going to win....Just a moment ... Hello ... Yeah ... WHAT?!?!?! .... WHAT?!?!?! ... Carlos' car caught fire half a kilometer from the finish ... they pulled over to put it out ... Is it true? ...Couldn't they just push it over the finish line? ... Well I guess that's it ... This can't be true (3x) Oh, for goodness sake ... I guess then we're not going anywhere... (Repeats news)

I like how Tommi still managed to be calm after that phone call, if Petter was in his position he would be jumping up and down in joy 😂😂
I think he said „Carlos beat me ? no way , he can drive , carls has crash , it’s normal , no warries , i win !!!”
That's how a finn celebrate their win..

2008 was not so good honestly - drama due to bad driving. Kimi and Fernando were much stronger than Lewis and Massa just unluckier in many ways.

Both Tommi and Carlos got rekt yet Makinen got the last laugh. What a twist of fate.
