I actually like the Atlas more, just in this case it ended up being longer because I chose to mention Natasha Kerensky. There are a few key mechs that I think deserve longer videos, the Warhammer just happens to be one of them. :)

The Warhammer is easily my favorite mech in all of the franchise. In MW5, I almost exclusively run a WHM-6Rb unless drop limits and mission difficulty demand I run something smaller like a Centurion or bigger like a Mackie (Clan Invasion mod FTW). If I was suddenly isekai'd to Battletech in any era of the setting, I'd take a WHM model any day.
Saw the Warhammer. Looked at its hands. Learned what a PPC was. The mech made me a fan. No matter which company claims they invented its "design". Hoping for a new BattleTech TV show.
My first mech back when I was starting out in MWO, it is still very much an old reliable no matter the medium be it tabletop or videogames. There's always a place for a Warhammer somewhere. In the words of some Periphery bumpkin, "It's good enough."
I love the the Warhammer. There are too many variants to list, but Ill try. The 3025 WHM-6D is a solid tank of its era with heavy armor, an all-energy weapons loadout, and enough heat sinks to keep cool, though not going into Full Alpha Strike. The WHM-7A is a Royal model from the Star League era. It uses Double Heat Sinks to handle upgrading Extended Range PPCs, Pulse Lasers, and an Artemis IV system for its SRM launcher. The WHM-8M oddly has a Light Gauss Rifles in addition to its ER PPCs. This makes it a solid direct fire support model. The WHM-9D uses an Extralight Engine to increase its speed to 86kph, and mounts a Targeting Computer. This makes it a very fast heavy sniper battlemech. The WHM-9K is a Kuritan design, using Heavy PPCs instead of Extended Range PPCs. This results in decreased range and accuracy but greater stopping power. The typical SRM launcher has been upgraded to an MML-9, increasing its SRM salvo by +50%, and giving it some long range missile firepower. The WHM-10K uses new Ballistic-Reinforced Armor, greatly increasing this Warhammer's battlefield durability. WHM-11T is a Taurian model with 2 Snub-Noses PPCs, 2 Light PPCs, 2 ER Medium Lasers, an MML-5, and 5 Improved Jump Jets. There are several Clan-refits of the Warhammer. The improved clan-tech makes these models deadly despite being on an old chassis. Edit: Oddly none of the models think to use something like Medium Range Missiles or large Long Range missile pods. Upgrade that SRM-6 to an LRM-20. Maybe that would make it too much like a Thunderbolt?
So variants go to X0K. I wonder what WHR-40K would look like? Replase MGs with flamethrowers, one LL with Ultra(marine) AC 10 and another LL with chainsaw? And the search light is exchanged to small laz.
@@Dragoran5836 I don't like how Warhammer 40k tried to make everything into a melee combat game. A Warlord Titan has a Gatling Blaster, Volcano Cannon, and Turbo Laser Destructors. Games-Workshop "pst, replace the guns with chainsaws' I'm like "replace the chainsaws with guns"
The WHM-6rb is one of the best variants of the mech and arguably one of the best heavy mechs in the game. It doesn't drastically change the mech outside of giving it weight saving technology for double heatsinks and more armor. Sometimes, that's all you need.
though i've never play the game, my six based on these videos would be, and in no prefered order: Marauder Atlas Timber Wolf/Mad Cat Warhammer Thor/Summoner Vulture/Mad Dog
They are are a damn good choice for the line. And for being lighter armored, not as much of an issue, as it’s PPC’s will strip much on an enemies armor away at range, allowing the others to rip them apart at closer range, also I did crazy with it. Said PPC’s are cool, but what’s cooler? Binary L lasers, Clan MP lasers, Clan SP lasers, a 270 clan XL, double engine heat sinks, Clan machine guns, and Clan SRM 6…ferrofiberous, case for SRM ammo. Yeah…it’s silly, and probably one the most expensive WHM made, but hey each arm has the equivalent of an AC-20…with far greater range. And still slays things, while taking minimal damage, as lists of times, it’ll core or head shot mech’s just from the Binaries
Another fantastic video. The Warhammer is one of my favorite mechs, alongside the Highlander. It is just an impressive old warhorse that has remained effective as time went on. Keep up the good work.
The Warhammer is a very interesting heavy. It sacrifices armor for sheer firepower at multiple ranges. If you want an aggressive design, then the Warhammer is your mech. I like how the design punches big holes in a target, then has a host of crit seeking weapons. It possesses an average of 10 potential crits (average of 4 SRMs, 2 medium lasers, 2 small lasers and 2 machine guns). This makes the design an excellent dualist. Its PPCs and lasers also give it some endurance.
MW2 was my introduction to battletech, and tbh… i dont really care for most Innersphere mechs. This one though, i absolutely adore. Only IS mechs i love more are the Marauder and Atlas. My favorite Warhammer being the 6D due to the extra the extra armor. Its the AK-47 of Innersphere mechs, and Tex said it best when he said the Warhammer is the perfect example of “good enough”.
Of all the machines in Battletech I think Natasha's Warhammer is the most inspiring and beautiful, I wish I had the skill to properly paint a miniature to this level of detail.
1:55 general Sturnson's requirements constitute a very low bar: "A mech that can fight at its own weight class or lower". I kinda think that should be the default.
Also fun to run Marauder, 2 WHM 6R’s and a catapult. Can wreck much heavier lances as by the time they close, they have equal, or now less armor and they’re now facing similar amounts of close in weapons. Probably why the SLDF ran similar lances.
since the beginning of mankind, a man's most relied on tool: able to fix things, break things, even kill in a single blow: will always be there and will never change: it's a hammer.
Loving g the newer longer length videos! Looking at great pilots, the mechs place in game lore and universe lore, and as ever the excellent tabletop analysis of armour weapons etc. Keep up the good work!!
I consider this thing to be a line-of-sight Sniper and a darn good one. It’s like taking two Panthers and merging them and adding a few extra ML and/or MG for good measure.
To speak to the quality of the Warhammer when I first encountered this machine in HBS Battletech I was fully convinced I had come face to face with an assault mech. The Warhammer is a remarkable heavy mech that might not be 'special' in any particular facet but it is without question one of the best by virtue of sheer quality. In the HBS game one of my few and favorite modifications of the classic is the replace the original PPCs with snub nosed variants and using the free weight for armor and heat sinks. This does mean the most powerful weapons now spread their damage but when supported by an LRM boat this configuration will flay its target without mercy, making its close range firepower all the more deadly when something comes within range.
The Snub PPCs as they appear in HBS tech are certainly interesting weapons the ++ Damage ones are VERY interesting. Basically 5 medium lasers with better range bands 1 more ton but only 2/3rds the heat.
*sigh* the WHM-6R Warhammer. In the DCMS we never had enough of them, and it always seemed those damned Fed Rats always had them.. and in spades. Even those treasonous Wolf's Dragoons had them. It was a formidable design it had a very glaring achilles heel. It's thin leg armor. I taught many of my younger pilots to go for that point... Avoiding straight up gun fights with them. Easier said than done.
Many Battlemechs in the setting get by on just being good enough. Good enough is what has pushed back tides again and again, but The Warhammer is by far more then good enough.
I have a lot of love for the Warhammer, as its illustrations on the original Battle Tech box helped sell it for me oh so many years ago, when I was young and impressionable. Good times. 😃 Nostalgia aside, I have always used the Warhammer as a personal 'mech for these 3 reasons. 1. Tactical flexibility. PPCs, to PPCs and MLs, to the entire chest cluster + SRMS. Something good at any range band. You can stand off and pop targets with the PPCs (and not get too heated) but when they decide to charge in or send the harassers, let 'em have all the short-range stuff. Bye-bye back stabbers. 😝 2. Customization flexibility. The -6R is definitely in the "if it ain't broke" category, but twiddling with it to get a good personal load-out can be rewarding. Just about everyone has an official or unofficial custom version. And it upgrades to lostech or clan tech rather nicely to! *sighs* One of these days I'll be able to field Outlaw Man in truth, not in game fic. 3. Tactical flexibility. The Warhammer can lead a strike lance. It can lead a support lance or a command lance. It can work as a bodyguard unit to a lance commander. It can be a sharpshooter, it can be a brawler. It can attack, it can defend.
Warhammer is a monster, on the field. The Warhammer is a mech that can help destroy anything. The Warhammer , was the favorite Mechwarrior of Natasha. I favor it.
I saw the Battletech box set with the Warhammer on it at a local comic shop way back in the day and had to own it. I still have it as well as about 90 percent of my BT products unfortunately I no longer have the Succession Wars box set (some of the pieces Marik and Liao I think) and my friends and I spent a lot of time playing that one. I have only used miniatures for BT in 2 games (one was at a game con so it lasted for 3 days) literally the rest are the old cardboard pieces from the box sets
Love this thing. Both in roguetech (battletech mod) and mechwarrior games. I always go for one first for my personal mech. For me, in the early game I swap out the MGs and ammo and small lasers to fully armor the 6R and either fill the rest with 2 extra medium lasers or heatsinks. Eventually I end up with a 7A with ERPPCs, endo, ferros, XL engine, quad medium pulse lasers and LRM10s going against clan scum. It has never let me down. From light omni mechs like adders to dueling it out with a timber wolf, i feared nothing.
Missed out on getting the Warhammer during it's free event month in MWO...So I actually paid with my C-Bills for once. That's how much I like this mech the more I learn about this machine.
Ah, my favorite Mech of 3025. There's not much short of an assault Mech the 'Hammer can't take out...and with slight modifications it's an absolute BEAST
oh god I remember my friends custom data sheet for his Warhammer that he named Tomahawk it was beast on the table top sadly during the "Dark Times" he couldn't use his beloved Warhammer in tournaments as the miniature was now illegal so it could only be used in friendly games eventually we drifted apart and we moved on I'm just now getting back into the Battletech miniatures game's resurgence in my area
A tried-and-true design that gets the job done. Period. Though the base model is considered to be a little light in armor coverage, an aggressive pilot taking the fight to the enemy will find success more often than not. It's a fantastic weapons platform with some of the most fearsome weaponry for the 3025 era. My favorite variant is the WHM-6D, which has even more heat sinks and max armor at the cost of all ammunition-based weapon systems. This gives it even more survivability since it removes the chance of destruction by ammo explosion. A true juggernaut if there ever was one!
I played the stock 6R, my fave gunbus for many reasons, for many years. It was always amusing when opponents would charge the PPC sharpshooter and run into its heavy short-range armament. Flay the armor off and then use the heat-free MGs to get the critical hits. Been wanting to try a Hot Hammer or a Clan version some time, though.
Warhammers, always a threat no matter what I bring even when out matches weight wise. The Black Widow's Warhammer took both of my Bullsharks to down. It still took them two full turns of hellish Auto Cannon fire to tear it in half, and not a lot of mechs last that long facing down the sharks. Still the best fight in Battletech 2018.
Regarding the armor of the Warhammer - this mech is entirely based around the notion "The best defense is a good offense". The original design specs were basically to be able to "destroy or maul/cripple anything it's size or smaller" and that it can do. The pilot had good punch at range, so it can park behind a hill and protect those vulnerable legs. If enemies are foolish enough to try and close with it, the shorter the range, the greater the damage potential of the Warhammer. Back in the days of the Star League they were used en mass - entire battalions of Warhammers covering each other's advance, a wall of lightning death moving steadily forward. And even in the ruins of the latter Succession Wars, it's ruggedness, availability and versatility keeps it on the front lines (and wishlists of house and mercenary commanders).
I'll add to it, that Warhammers were designed around numbers in mind. It's as someone said, 'good enough' but to add to that, it's a 'good enough' MODEL to be replicated consistently without fault. When used appropriately, losing a Warhammer is not as big of a deal, especially when it fulfills its purpose of engaging another heavy tonner or destroying and punching a hole through defences before being annihilated. Is it terrible to lose one? Yes, but you'll probably be hurting more in the pocket than say in terms of losing a relic.
BR40k!!!! Awesome video!! I love, love, love the Warhammer! Thank You for doing it justice! And as a side note. Natasha Kerensky actually piloted a Marauder first. She lost it to the Bounty Hunter and took his Warhammer as her own. Just saying Brother! LOL Loved the Video!
I know she piloted a Marauder first. I left it out, because I didn't cover her entire life and career, this video is about the Warhammer, not the Marauder. :)
Outstanding video! With a few modifications this thing was almost un-kill-able in tabletop back in the day. Strip out the MG's and the small lasers and add three heat sinks and drop the SRM 6 and ammo and add 4 tons of armor. Has the added advantage of making it immune to ammo explosions. I mean we couldn't all have double capacity Heatsinks like the Black Widow did.
The Widow didn't have them, in the beginning. I used to have the old Black Widow Company mission book. The Wolf's Dragoons history and matching equipment roster has really grown over the years! Back then Natasha onee-sama was just better than the rest. Her stock -6R was always in impeccable condition though.
I watched Tex's video on the Marauder and quickly resolved to get my hands on a Royal Marauder in Mechwarrior 5. Instead, I got my hands on a Royal Warhammer. I quickly became a convert. It's a good heavy mech.
I can't say that I've had the pleasure of using a WH on the table. Even though it was on the cover my box, I stuck it in my head about it's design origins and kind of blew it off. My loss, I'm sure. Now I can see it's potential in it's original weapons outfit.

Yeah Warhammer 40k is so cool
(just kidding) 😝
booo this man! lol

I'm like "replace the chainsaws with guns"
6D was a neat way to simplify logistics by leaving out ammunition hungry weapons which can be a major concern in a lengthy Campaign.
The Ral Partha 5 part blocky Warhammer got me into BATTLETECH in 1987. In 2024, waiting for a second Kickstarter to arrive.
I like having this mech around in MW5. I personally dislike piloting it, however, I can't deny the effectiveness of it in the hands of my lancemates.
The Greatest and my favorite Heavy Mech!
This mech is responsible for getting me through more than a few tough battles in battletech(game)
My absolute favorite! I'm happy that you covered it
I don't think Natasha is the most famous but she is very much up there in terms of mech warrior fame
It is a solid mech for anyone, and unlike a marauder you don't have to worry about half you weapons disappearing if an arm gets blown off
The WHM-6rb is one of the best variants of the mech and arguably one of the best heavy mechs in the game. It doesn't drastically change the mech outside of giving it weight saving technology for double heatsinks and more armor. Sometimes, that's all you need.
Definitely one of my favorite mechs. It looks so cool and has it all when it comes to weapons.
Rule of cool appearance. Rule of cool loadout. What's not to love?
though i've never play the game, my six based on these videos would be, and in no prefered order:
Marauder
Atlas
Timber Wolf/Mad Cat
Warhammer
Thor/Summoner
Vulture/Mad Dog
A staple Heavy 'mech. Although it's not the most mobile of 'mechs, the Warhammer's a reliable and sturdy design, a great addition to a battle lance.
Full length episode?! Nice!
Playing a campaign this weekend and the enemy lance has a Warhammer. I was scared......now I'm terrified!
Considering many of the other designs that existed at the time, it’s a pretty high bar. (Looks at charger with disappointment)
One of the best Mechs in existence.
When I was little I had a toy of the Robotech version of this Mech. Now I have every variant of it in MW5. It just feels so reliable, and powerful.
Also fun to run Marauder, 2 WHM 6R’s and a catapult. Can wreck much heavier lances as by the time they close, they have equal, or now less armor and they’re now facing similar amounts of close in weapons. Probably why the SLDF ran similar lances.
Great video! I've been waiting for this since I found your channel! Keep up the great work!
since the beginning of mankind, a man's most relied on tool: able to fix things, break things, even kill in a single blow: will always be there and will never change: it's a hammer.
When someone says "the old gods", this is one of the first things that pops in my head.
Cthulhu's got nothing on the Warhammer. lol
Black Knight is my fav heavy mech, but the Warhammer is a close second
Sometimes, when you really need to hammer it in to your foes, you need a Warhammer.
Just drop the hammer on them. They'll understand.
This was my head hunter in MW5. More cockpit shots in that than anything else
Nice, the Warhammer is a truly solid design.
It's ruthlessly fantastic. :D
Sorry I missed your last couple streams, was travelling visiting my best friend, Signed - Maple Ridge's "best" Mechwarrior ;)
First 4 mech minis I bought in the early 90s (got them for cool factor) Battle Master, Atlas, Panther and Warhammer
When I first fielded this I felt its power!
Many Battlemechs in the setting get by on just being good enough. Good enough is what has pushed back tides again and again, but The Warhammer is by far more then good enough.
It will never be unseen
Whne you have a Warhammer, every problem starts looking like a nail.
Every problem is a nail O.O
Love this thing. Both in roguetech (battletech mod) and mechwarrior games. I always go for one first for my personal mech.
For me, in the early game I swap out the MGs and ammo and small lasers to fully armor the 6R and either fill the rest with 2 extra medium lasers or heatsinks.
Eventually I end up with a 7A with ERPPCs, endo, ferros, XL engine, quad medium pulse lasers and LRM10s going against clan scum. It has never let me down. From light omni mechs like adders to dueling it out with a timber wolf, i feared nothing.
My absolute favorite mech of all time, the first one i saw (on the cover) i get one each career i can
Missed out on getting the Warhammer during it's free event month in MWO...So I actually paid with my C-Bills for once.
That's how much I like this mech the more I learn about this machine.
Tex video documentary brought me here!
Ah, my favorite Mech of 3025. There's not much short of an assault Mech the 'Hammer can't take out...and with slight modifications it's an absolute BEAST
Love me a whammer. It can pretty adeptly do anything any other heavy can do besides indirect spam while the parts are fricken MOPAR.
oh god I remember my friends custom data sheet for his Warhammer that he named Tomahawk it was beast on the table top sadly during the "Dark Times" he couldn't use his beloved Warhammer in tournaments as the miniature was now illegal so it could only be used in friendly games eventually we drifted apart and we moved on I'm just now getting back into the Battletech miniatures game's resurgence in my area
It's HAMMERTIME!
Can't touch this!

I deleted her with 120 lrms per turn, it was a little anti-climactic.
If you look at its weapons assembly, it's like a layered defense imo.
@@BigRed40TECH Yeah I know. And I'm waiting with heart in hand for your video on my Clan! And the Hammerhead!
@@kennethelkins-wulff9644 Which clan??? lol
The Warhammer. The beginner mech for everyone. And the Eternal.
The 6D variant is essentially what you described. It's my favorite version, and I've had a lot of success using it as an "anvil" unit.
@@brianhenry152 I did no know it had a specific designation, cool.
The Widow didn't have them, in the beginning. I used to have the old Black Widow Company mission book. The Wolf's Dragoons history and matching equipment roster has really grown over the years! Back then Natasha onee-sama was just better than the rest. Her stock -6R was always in impeccable condition though.
honestly, as a jenner pilot, a warhammer is a reason to turn around...
Warhammer: Have all the shots!
Marauder: One shot is all I need.
I watched Tex's video on the Marauder and quickly resolved to get my hands on a Royal Marauder in Mechwarrior 5. Instead, I got my hands on a Royal Warhammer. I quickly became a convert. It's a good heavy mech.
Warhammer stronk. :)
Ahhh my first heavy in MW5, got the variant with Ferro-Fibrous and damn it served me well! Though I do think of it as a dollar store thug lol
now you have to talk about its predecessors, the Battleaxe and Hammerhands and it successor the Thug
One day all will be talked about. The Thug sooner than the others.
I love this mech. I love the original design.
There is a reason I used a few reference images beyond my typical "This is what this used to look like" in this video. :)
My favorite mech. More iconic than the Atlas for me. Good job
I enjoyed making it!
Royal WHM-6Rb is nuts, 78/78 criticals used and perfectly even heat sinking.
While I will always have a soft spot for the shadow hawk, the Warhammer is the weapon I would want to bring in a real war.
I can't say that I've had the pleasure of using a WH on the table. Even though it was on the cover my box, I stuck it in my head about it's design origins and kind of blew it off.
My loss, I'm sure. Now I can see it's potential in it's original weapons outfit.
