Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. For the first time, experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. I believe the Ravenclaw companion has not been announced yet because they will have significant impact on the storyline. I honestly don’t think there would be any other reason for this.

It could also be a marketing decision, in order to build up hype and curiosity for the game, but I think your point is still highly possible.
Actually, to add to my comment, it could also be that the character is someone we already know from the Harry Potter movies. So it could be meant as a suprise.
Or, now i know this is a way less chance because player immersion is important but still, maybe the protagonist will be cannonically a ravenclaw

I like that they broke some of the house stereotypes… A Slytherin (Sebastian) is actually placed as a seeker of a noble cause, and we have a Hufflepuff (Poppy) capable of showing aversion towards certain types of wizards.

Well, Slytherins always took me as family oriented people. You know, what family you're from is important, so your family is important, so of course you look after it. Does that make sense?
being against poachers is an element of merit for Poppy, I would say.
Moreover, the note indicates a general "poachers", not just "wizards poachers"
I'm glad they changed poppys look and seemingly her demeanor here. When I saw the reveal I thought, "yup, I can't wait to NOT invest time into this little girls story!" I thought this companion was all tooth fairy and rainbows, but now I'm actually intrigued.
She even looks a lot older in the new character card they showed. Looks like a younger version of her back in the trailer.
Why would you not be interested in her based on the trailer?
They said Poppy feels closer to animals then humans. I wonder if we can have stronger animals like a hypogriff as a companion. I'm thinking that once you "unlock" a companion, they are added to a list and you can choose who you want to bring with you on adventures, from the list.

Honestly love the bits of story detail we've gotten so far. As said Sebastian's quest is optional, but as a Slytherin I feel it's a must. Plus the intriguing story of Ann his sister makes it definitely worth maybe going down the dark witch/wizard path to have a chance to save her. Also just a thought, but what if Ann is the Ravenclaw companion. I don't believe they've revealed anything bout her not being a student and she is he's twin so same age and could be a student. Also doesn't mean she would've been sorted into Slytherin house just because Sebastian was. Really think seeing her go through the curse as a student and her trying to hide it from other students would build a strong bond for those playing no matter their house.

I’ve been thinking about the Ravenclaw companion and I’m pretty sure they’re withholding the info about them because of the delay. Like, they planned to release all of the info together, but since they had to delay the game they needed to hold some info to keep the hype up for the next few months
Possible! I think they definitely wanted to keep some things back they can release in the builldup to launch...but then hopefully they still keep a lot of things secret.
My theories:
1. Sebastian
- moral problem: can the curses ever be used for "a good cause" / can you ever turn evil while protecting your family / it's better to grieve and accept or is it better to try all the methods - even the non-ethical methods... - just to stop the disease or death itself / how far can family love go
- ability we learn together: all three unforgivables
- option to save / destroy the wizarding world: standing for or against the dark wizards
2. Natsai
- moral problem: social justice in the magical world, the rights of the non-human magical persons (the goblin rebellion - she is for justice + she is seen with the avatar in the gameplay trailer when the goblin and the dark wizard talk)
- ability: wandless magic (stuff she learnt in Africa + the way goblins use magic) and maybe animagus, now I think (we do see her with some creatures...)
- options and risks: will Natsai choose to take part in the rebellion against other witches and wizards, believing that violence is the only way to end injustice, or will she decide that only unity and peace can bring a better world for both human and non-human magical persons
3.Poppy
- moral problem: choosing beasts over humans / can you ever turn evil when protecting the most vulnerable of creatures
- abilities: definitelty something about the beasts: healing them, taking general care, maybe breeding, flying and riding on the magical beasts, communication with different species, and probably centaur culture; maybe also how to use the beasts in the battle against poachers
- options and risks: the poachers and how far can you go to stop them...
Seems pretty well thought out! I've seen a lot of people running with this idea of one unforgivable for each companion...but I'm not buying that just yet. Just don't think that's how it will work, but I could be wrong!
What's the big appeal about wandless magic? I see a lot of people advocating for it in Reddit but i don't get it. Isn't the point of using wands to channel and amplify your magic? Why would we want to have unreliable and chaotic magic?

The Ravenclaw companion will definitely be a familiar name. If it were inconsequential, then we'd already know.
Depending on how late in the 1800s the events of Hogwarts Legacy take place, I'm banking on Aberforth Dumbledore (began Hogwarts in 1895), he'll be the companion that introduces us to duelling and will be familiar with the castle’s puzzles/secrets. His house was never confirmed, and he is noted to have been exceptional in charms and duelling during his time at Hogwarts. If it takes place in 1899, then Albus would've already left (for continuity) and Aberforth would be in the same year as the protagonist.
Either way. Someone we know such as Aberforth and Bathilda Bagshot, who would be the only two alive attending Hogwarts in the 1800’s. Or related to someone we know, though there aren’t many magical families with known links to Ravenclaw and Luna’s great grandmother/grandfather probably wouldn’t warrant the secrecy.

Considering the current knowledge I actually think that the Ravenclaw companion is the most interesting one. Simply because he (I highly think it will be a boy) is not revealed yet.
I wonder if the Ravenclaw companion will be a Lovegood, a Scamander, a Weasley, or even maybe a Hagrid? The way it’s being kept under wraps has a lot of people theorizing it must be someone with a surname we’d recognize and get excited about. And as you’ve pointed out, the game story seems to have a significant involvement with magical beasts. So what families do we know of with an affinity for animals?
Lovegoods like to believe in strange and possibly nonexistent magical creatures as well as usually get sorted into Ravenclaw. Newt Scamander does eventually write FBaWtFT…maybe that’s a shared interest he has with a wise Ravenclaw ancestor? 😅
Charlie Weasley loved dragons and we know there’s a Weasley professor…maybe there’s Weasley students too and possibly in Ravenclaw? And then there’s Rubeus Hagrid…who’s father did marry and procreate with a giant…I’m not sure if his father was muggleborn or not so could a Hagrid ancestor be our Ravenclaw companion? Or perhaps, dare I say it, a Quirrell (if professor quirrell’s father was the magical side of the family)? Professor Quirrel did allegedly meet a zombie, a vampire, and hag in his travels (not to
mention Voldemort). Could his ancestor be our Ravenclaw companion?
As others have pointed out, I think Anne Sallow as our Ravenclaw companion would make sense too, even if she’s not attending classes as regularly as her brother and therefore not in her school robes when we see her due to her ailment. It would make an interesting parallel…a brother using any means necessary to save his sister including the dark arts, and a sister devoting her every waking moment to study and intellectual pursuits to find a cure…it has some serious potential as heartfelt story moments.
And perhaps the Ravenclaw companion isn’t just simply a regular companion…perhaps it is our rival companion? I like this theory too. I feel like rivalries are an important part of a Hogwarts story. Harry had Draco…Severus had the Marauders, James in particular…Arthur and Lucius were always at odds at the MoM and possibly were at school too. And of course, you can’t forget Salazar and Godric themselves…
Perhaps all these theories are right and Anne Sallow is somehow related to Gilderoy Lockhart, making her a rather potent rival companion. 😂
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
That picture of Poppy Sweeting, for someone who’s suppose to be so kind at heart, looks like she’s about to kick someone’s ass.
During the gameplay, there’s a scene where our character seems to collect a page assumably for the Hogwarts Guide book. At least I think we collect pages for the guide book. I thought I heard that somewhere. Anyway, as our character stands there looking at the floating page, it reminded me of the old Harry Potter games (one or maybe both of the first two games) on PS1 and PS2/Xbox/GameCube when Harry walks up to a floating page to save the game’s progress. I wonder if collecting pages for the Hogwarts guide book is a nod to the old Harry Potter games when we had to find pages for the folio bruti book 🤔.
Maybe the Ravenclaw companion has a very familiar last name and that's why they haven't said anything.

could the ravenclaw "companion" actually be our characters main rival? As a ravenclaw, myself, it would be refreshing to not have the main characters rival in slytherin. I feel like thats too tired and predictable to make the bad guy a slytherin

Totally agree I don't want any more story leaks that will completely ruin my experience/enjoyment playing this game. We have waited long enough since the leak video yrs ago. I want to enjoy all the surprises, storyline to keep me hooked in, than to leak everything and when the game releases in Feb, I don't want to be ok I know all this and the hype is gone and what's the point in playing it as the surprise factor is gone.
Yeah, most important to me right now is learning more about the gameplay mechanics, mostly how combat works. We've seen combat, but as far as I know we have not seen the actual HUD or UI/UX, so I want to know how combat actually flows, what kind of health or magic meter do we get, how are spells chosen to cast, how are enemies targeted, etc. A cumbersome or ill-implemented combat system could quickly deflate any desire I might have to play what otherwise seems like a really awesome game. Truly, a dream come true for HP fans. I'm like 85-90% on board, just want to see a little more on that, but story-wise I'm good.
One thing that got me thinking in your video was Poppy's description. In the March State of Play it made it sound like rescuing beasts from poachers was optional, and in her description that last half a sentence struck me. Not sure if any of this has been confirmed or not. I believe these companions are optional, aren't they? Like, they'll join you as a companion if you finish their side questline, kind of like in Skyrim where if you make certain decisions they'll join you. I'm thinking maybe there's things you can do to make them NOT join you. In Poppy's case, it says she has an aversion to people who work with poachers. Suppose there could be a side quest where maybe you meet someone who needs your help to catch a beast because they need something from it, like an ingredient for a potion. If you perform that side quest, might it make Poppy not want to be your friend? Do you guys think the developers put that much thought into branching decisions and stuff? I'm just spit ballin' here, but that's the thought that came to my mind when I heard Poppy's description.

I'm not a fan of wandless magic, if I'm honest it defeats the story of the wand chooses the wizard and the wand having that connection to the person, obviously magic comes from within however using an object such as a wand to channel your power better has been a thing of the arthurian legend for years.
The wand idea should definitely stay as the main focus, in the terms of not underpaying it by elevating wandless magic.
As we are still located at Hogwarts, I agree.
The focus should be on using wands as that's what is normal. However, I do kind of want to have a minor skill for casting without it.

So witches and wizards accustomed to using wands can perform wandless magic reliably if they possessed great skill. However, within regions of the wizarding world that historically did not use wands, wandless magic was considered the norm, and using a wand was optional. I’ve always seen wandless magic as something only very powerful and disciplined witches and wizards could do. It seems it’s actually what the ancient wizarding world used most often, with the invention of wands as a tool to more easily control and channel the magic that could often times explode out of them. Considering the big story element of this game is the ancient magic our character for whatever reason can only access, I would assume that would need to be called upon wandlessly as it’s an ancient source. I wouldn’t be surprised at all for the game to have some type of wandless magic branch in a skill tree to develop as needed/wanted. Personally I love the idea of wandless magic but that’s because I assume it to be a mark of a very powerful witch or wizard. But if 14 year olds from Uagadou can do it no problem, perhaps it isn’t a mark of power but exceptional discipline that has been deemed less important by Europeans due to the invention of wands. Kinda like smart phones. Who needs to remember phone numbers anymore or go to the library for information when you can just access it instantaneously on your phone?
TLDR:
I have no doubt though that wands will be our primary use of magic just from what little action sequences we’ve seen of the game. If there’s any wandless magic all, I bet it deals with that mysterious ancient magic we keep hearing about.
You know what has been bugging me for a while... I know we determine the apperance of our character but I wonder if we have like an actual name, I just feel that sometimes conversations on a game like this flow much more organically when characters refer to the player by a name rather than he/she/them or shit I don't know "transfer student"?

Not until watching this video did I realize the one stipulation I have with this game. Hogwarts Legacy needs to have all 7 core classes available for play. The 7 core classes are some of the most iconic aspects of life at Hogwarts, so I hope they would not be careless enough to forget any of them.
Herbology, Charms, DADA, Potions, and History of Magic were all confirmed in the State of Play.
Transfiguration - seems that we've seen it in the Reveal trailer.
This just leaves Astronomy in question.

But also, to the people that are like NO MORE STORY, this isn’t story. This is all about the companions, the companions are side quests. So it’s not really spoiling anything about the story. We actually still know very little about the actual story.

Interesting note: the first recorded use of wands in actual world history is in Egypt. Strange that Wizarding World would claim that the wand is a European invention!
There are also other forms of maledictions not just being transformed permanently into an animal. As with the case of Astoria Greengrass who had a blood malediction that made her weak and frail until she died from it.
I don’t really want to see more about the story but more like gameplay. Like how skill work, how class work, a little bit more about character creation. Just an other 15 or so gameplay video talking about this point I mention would be cool for me.

The quest will probably come to PC and other consoles when Sony's 1 yr exclusivity is up. The potion is still a little uncertain.

what are the companions exactly? I thought they were like house specific "companions" to me seems like a follower or some party help forming a duo.
but its seeming like everything leads to them being optional questlines for every house to do, meaning that the "companion" tag is terrible and makes no sense.
optional, short storyline missions where you have a "companion" doesn't make them worthy of a title that sounds like it holds more weight throughout the whole game.

I believe that there will be a 4th forbidden spell added to the game and taught by the Ravenclaw companion. It's just my theory and speculation, as it makes sense to learn one forbidden spell by each of the 4 hoses companions. Maybe it's that lightning bolt spell that we have seen in a few previous trailers? I will call it the "Devestatus" spell for now. 🤣
If you are correct, I imagine that such a lightning spell could come from Natsai. There's a mythical bird from her home region , in Africa, called the lightning bird. It is quite similar to the thunderbird, and the phoenix.
I think a lightning bird feather will be the core for her wand.

This doesn't have anything to do with the video I just wanted to say I've been watching your videos and in your breakdown of the gameplay demo I think I discovered something that you possibly might have missed when you slow down the shot of showing all of the Details inside the great hall I was looking very closely at all of the hogwarts Professors and assuming since you thought the charm's Teacher from the game is the head of slither in house I saw a lady in that shot with him that looked like the Gryffindor companion's mother so does that mean she's the head of Griffindor ? doorhouse ?
Professor Ronen has now been confirmed as both the Charms prof and Head of Slytherin House. I believe you're talking about the Divination professor. She's now been confirmed as Natsai's mother and they're moving from Uagadou. I expect the Head of Gryffindor will end up being Prof Weasley, but we don't know that for sure yet.
I’m gonna be honest, I’m going to forget all of this except the general gist. The game comes out in February, more than enough time for story knowledge to fade away.

I'm honestly sick of seeing CoMC and Divination being the only elective classes that seem to matter.
Given all the Ancient Magic hype in this game, Ancient Runes sounds like the perfect elective class to take. It'd be nice if they explored that topic more.

Probably the minority here but I really hope the Ravenclaw companion is NOT a relative of an established character we already know; Potter, Weasley etc.
Imo it would make them less unique than a completely original character like the other houses. Plus I just don't really care for pandering or fan service just for the sake of being able to say omg I'm playing with Harry's great uncle or some dumb shit like that.
I wouldn’t mind it. I think it would be weird to play a Harry Potter game in the late 1800s that didn’t have ancestors to characters we know come from magical families. It would, in a sense, be ignoring cannon by doing that. They don’t necessarily have to be our companions, but I think they should be there at Hogwarts and referenced at least in passing. The FB movies had a platinum blonde slytherin student as a background character. It’s never been confirmed to have been a Malfoy but we all know it’s gotta be 😅. I’d be happy with something like that if we don’t get a companion out of it. Doing so would add a subtle layer of cannon to make it all feel more authentic without taking away from the unique story.
But if the Ravenclaw companion is not a character with a surname we’d recognize, why hide the character? What would be the reasoning for not wanting to share information about the character if there isn’t some type of instant recognition or understanding? I do like the rival theory. That could be a tantalizing game mechanic to keep hidden for a little longer. I hope it’s not simply because the Ravenclaw companion is the source of the delay to February, with no other story implications other than programming the character and their story beats as Avalanche wants it for players. That would be a bummer. Do you have any theories as to why the Ravenclaw companion is being kept a secret? I’d genuinely want to know if want to share. I personally can’t think of any other logical explanation. So what do you think it could be?
@@HollyCzanirov There's definitely a place for ancestors of canon characters and at least a Weasley has already been confirmed. I just don't want them to be a companion if we only get 4.
Using Hogwarts Mystery as an example, the Canon characters you befriend in that game are all one dimensional and boring because they can't take too many liberties without becoming lore breaking. I think they really restrict themselves doing it this way just to say they are in the game.
As for why they aren't revealing the Ravenclaw companion yet, it very well could be an ancestor, rival or tied to the main story. It could also be as simple as a marketing strategy. The longer they hold off, the longer people will speculate and make videos about it, thus keeping the game relevant all the way up to launch.
@@SmearyBridges As someone who stopped playing Hogwarts: A Mystery fairly early on after it’s launch, I can’t say I know too much about how certain well-known characters felt restrictive but I see your point. I know Bill and Tonks show up at least, and as characters we do get to know a little bit in the cannon, their stories would have to play out a certain way to match what we already know. Given that this is taking place like 100 years before the cannon story begins, I think that leaves some more room to play with ancestral characters but I see what you mean by restrictive story elements. We’d know nothing bad would happen to the character if it’s a direct ancestor because they’d have to live and eventually produce the Harry Potter descendent in question. So there’s no risk for that character. They have to survive in order to maintain cannon. Again, I don’t think it would feel authentically like Hogwarts if certain surnames didn’t show up in the game at some point, but that doesn’t necessarily mean those surnames have to be involved in the major story. They just have to be there, not as a way of selling the game by putting them in and showing them off, but as a way to add to the immersion of being a part of this particular area of the wizarding world. I would be disappointed personally if there weren’t at least easter egg name drops but that’s me. I’ve enjoyed hearing about a Weasley professor and our antagonist Rookwood. I wouldn’t mind if a Diggory or a Lovegood popped up. We could go even more obscure and have a Fawcett or a Fawley show up. Someone else mentioned an Ollivander but as well-known wandmakers, I’m not sure how that would tie into the story. Personally, if my character doesn’t get to romance a Malfoy like the main character gets to romance NPCs in the Fable games, I 👏🏼 will👏🏼be 👏🏼devastated! 🤣
All jokes and shallow desires aside, these are all surnames I associate with Hogwarts. It would be strange for me not to hear them being called on in classes. 😅 But the most important thing is the story. So as long as the story is good and makes sense with what we already have established, all the other extra references to cannon is just icing on top.
If this is plainly a marketing ploy, it’s only going to be successful if the payoff is worth the wait. It can’t just be a basic Ravenclaw companion like the others, otherwise just release the identity along with the other three. It wouldn’t excite people to have to wait for a reveal that’s just like everything else. So I would think it has to be something special, right? Seems foolish to me to just make it like the others. I guess it could be something as simple as like part of a final trailer reveal. If the Ravenclaw companion is integral to the story, saving the reveal of it to tie-in with the final marketing push before the release would make sense. I’d be a bit bummed if that’s the case, unless it’s some wild story element that ties the companion into whatever is going on with our transfer student. It’d have to be really good though and not some soap opera trope of like a long lost half-sibling or something. I’m hoping for a little more excitement in the Ravenclaw companion myself, whether that’s because the companion has a surname we recognize or reveals a “rival” game mechanic. I just don’t want it to be something basic and anticlimactic. If I’ve had to wait this long, it better be worth it! 😎

When it comes to games the story is what's going on backstory is lore wich I don't consider a spoiler unless it gives away a twist or something like that
To be fair ravenclaw was only mentioned twice in the first movie. So i don’t think avalanche has forgotten them versus it’s been like this all long😭 (I’m ravenclaw)

I'm still holding out hope for the Ravenclaw companion to be revealed eventually. As for Anne Sallow, yes I want to help her. If it turns out that there would be no cure for her, then I would hope that the form of the curse she has is the one where she eventually transforms into an animal.
It would feel much better to me to take care of Anne (as an animal) with the help of our companions veresus simply having her die outright. Ideally, of course, our ancient magic would be able to help her. I have had thoughts of our character maybe willingly either dying to save Anne or...if not dying, maybe we could willingly take on her burden. Willingly becoming an animal so that she could regain and retain her full humanity. This perhaps, or maybe there is a specific spell within the repertoire of ancient mage that will in fact act as a cure for Anne.
Every day we get closer to Hogwarts Legacy, the more excited I get, God willing, to play it.
