The idea behind how he wanted to shoot it was good, and I understand he didn't want to make the violence exciting, but in my opinion it is a bad action sequence
This is what makes this film so great I see comments voting for the police and some voting for the devil's rejects and that's the thing, this movie leaves it up to the viewer's emotions which is really great filmmaking instead of just establishing good and bad guys right from the start.
I 100% agree with that. I love Cap spaulding. only really because i'm a DIE hard Sid Haig fan. BUT at the same time. I liked the Unholy 2 so so much and it bummed me out so much to hear DDP isn't coming back for 3 from hell.
Except...except the good guys are obviously the cops and Wydell. The Rejects murdered and raped nearly 100 people, some of whom, it’s strongly implied in the first film, were children. Just because Otis and Spaulding are charismatic and Baby is sexy doesn’t make this a morally grey argument. Wydell isn’t perfect but what he does at the end of the movie isn’t even remotely on the same level as what the family has done.
I think this is one of the most underrated shootout sequences, along with the 'Free Bird' finale. It's not about the body count, unlike so many other films like Scarface or John Wick, but the intensity of the scene itself.
Just by this opening, I knew I was in for a wild and crazy film. Holy shit this was Rob Zombies best film. I saw this without watching House of 1000 Corpses (which I later ended up hating) and I understood the story.
Glad to see the Firefly family getting what's coming to them. Don't get me wrong, they're great characters. But this is the scene I wanted to see at the end of House of 1000 corpses.
That would've been a better ending than the one we got. Actually there's a reason for it, I think they had to redo the ending because the studio releasing it thought the original ending was too fucked up. And it still wasn't great at the end, but if it seems like it's rushed and confused in it's production, it's because it is.
Fuck that. Fuck the cops who protect the fragile and pathetic who deserve to die. Protect yourself or die. Cops take that mentality from society and make it weak. No sympathy for dead cops.
How the hell could they not be expecting this at any moment after killing two cops at the end of House of 1000 Corpses?? There were plenty of people who would have been able to trace the fact that they went out to this house within a matter of minutes.
Let’s all face it none is these Rejects where a match for Sheriff Wydell, he was so focused and fixated on vengeance, Wydell annihilated Rufus and he would have done the same to Tiny, but Wydell never even knew of the giant because he didn’t meet him in this scene, because Tiny was out hiding bodies, which he comes back at just the right time when Spaulding and Otis where gonna burn to death and baby would have been strangled
It was 1979 I think. These are just men from a posse who volunteered to go kill them. If the CIA was there? They'd call in a C-47 Spooky with three 20mm gatling guns and wipe the whole house out. (Which would have the movie last for like 2 minutes) The FBI would probably just do the same as the Sheriff did. INTERPOL and MI6 have no jurisdiction as they did not kill any foreigners or commit their crimes outside of America.
In Reality with all the abduction they have done and weapons they had. It would be ATF and the Sheriff that would show up 2 very sketchy agencies that don't go by the book. And their worst nightmare like every criminal would be if the US Marshals showed up thats like Death knocking on your door.
I usually root for the villains and anti-heroes. That said, my parents were both cops, so whenever the police are involved, I'm always rooting for them. Like in the movie Hitcher, for example.
Not to mention he's like covered head to toe in armor 24/7 (plus that bear mantle in the first movie). I could only see his dark hair and piercing blue eyes.
its sad but remember rufus really wasnt as developed as the others and this time he was played by rob zombies michael myers in this one so it made sense to lose him early on.
Great way to start the movie and establish Wydell is the real deal and a legitimate threat. He becomes even more so as the film goes on but it's clear he is every bit there match and it's just a badass scene to get you hooked in immediately. When I first saw this I was just so glad for something original and not cookie cutter or formulaic.
Anyone else fucking love the Skull and cross painted on Otis' armored mask that matches the ritual face paint he wore in the first one. I was hoping the same motif would show up in part 3. Maybe it will in the fourth one.
The Sheriff is a badass, when I saw these deputies pepper that house with slugs and .38's I was so hoping those hoodlums would fall. Well, Sheriff got his revenge, and the deputies terminated them at the end so I'd say justice was served. Wydell has the fury of St. Michael in his heart.
Actually metal face masks offer some protection depending on caliber of weapon used as well as distraction factor. Anyway its a movie and swat doesn't always win in real life as in Waco. The California bank heist is another example that if a small number of criminals goes on the offensive rather than defensive things can be evened up a bit. The cops in that movie also gave them preparation time to take up defensive positions. As for tear gas well there are different grades. Great movie anyway

Yeah and it was 556 to so it probably would’ve hurt pretty bad just because of how fast it’s going.
