  • Come and join me on my next adventure to visit The 30,000 year old carving of a Venus in Austria, and then go on an actual adventure to find the stone she was made from 160 miles away and attempt to recreate her.
I have many more of these videos that I plan to make.

Will, what a wonderful journey this was, thanks for sharing it with us. I was just thinking how beautifully she is displayed. It didn’t surprise me to see the affect it had on you. It’s so amazing to stand close to an object that connects us to the past.

    😂 😂 😂!
    You know what?
You made something beautiful out of the modern cement piece (even if it looked like a kind of limestone but a rigid and sponge like looking)!
The bottom line is, YOUR JOURNEY AND THE MESSAGE!
You transformed a piece of what ever, and you transformed it into your Venus.
All to get in touch with our past!
    Good Trip!

What an adventure and wonderful work! Your Venus is spectacular! I doubt that whoever made the original made theirs in one day, even if they may have used easier stone to sculpt with.

This one is emotional. The emotions in this definitely convey over. What a challenge. The Venus is spectacular beyond words. Thanks for bringing us on this amazing journey. The past really does humble us if we open up ourselves to it.

wonderful to see your quest: to relate to this Venus, to find her in a museum, to buy a replica of her, to find a similar rock that she was made from, and then, to go where she was found! Just wonderful you shared all. We know you are strong- 30,000 years ago we have no idea who the sculpture was-tall short, a bit stronger probably, for always on the go.. If you could have worked on it a bit during your rest period, or on those hot moments, or cold moments thru out the year-you could have done more. Somethings there is no time limit on.. I think you did a great job on your Venus, so the magic of the whole experience is in your piece, plus the hard work, is appreciated!

Picture the creator of the Venus spending an hour or two at the end of the day for perhaps weeks or months. The scale of time that we unconsciously live in today expects immediate gratification. We tend to want today what may have taken several moons thousands of years ago!

Thanks for this. It puts in perspective how important these figures were to the owners. You showed how hard it is to make something like this which illustrates how important certain rituals would have been. It would have been no small thing to have buried a figure that required that effort to create. To equate it to to present day, how many of us would bury and walk away from an iPhone we have worked many hours to purchase?

I think the Venus is carved from finer stone Will. Good effort though. Lots of emotion in this video.
If the Venus wasn't a Goddess but modelled on a real person back then, they sure ate well and didn't do arduous work.
Perhaps she was royalty, a queen maybe or the wife of a high tribal leader or mother of many offspring? Mother of a great person perhaps.
Maybe she was even a Goddess? Now there's a thought!

Where I live in New Mexico United States we've have the ability to find lots of Clovis points and Folsom points. I understand that they are also very old. Since they are not attributed to Native American artifacts I believe they are legal to collect. The Site of Puma Punku in South America has in my opinion the greatest example of ancient stone work. However was it made?

Will Lord, I am moved by your devotion and responses, which I share and shared decades before realizing my lineal connection. Genomics indicates I am directly descended through the male line from Gravettian mammoth hunters (Proto-European aboriginal hunter-gatherers). That explains a lot.
I was able to purchase an accurate reproduction not unlike yours from a hippie spiritual shop in the Haight-Ashbury during the mid 1980s. I made a close study of the details: her long fingers and other subtle and significant anatomical features. Please note that with those graceful fingers, our Mother is depicted expressing the milk from her breasts... as if to feed and nurture the world.

should have stopped off in paris on the way and seen the National Archaeological museum in St Germaine ( it's well worth the visit)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Archaeological_Museum,_France
, they have the venus made from mammoth ivory and that is hard but can be carved as you know. They also have some amazing paleolithic carvings and giant elk etc en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Brassempouy
