my buddies MIL and SIL and most of her family, backed him, it was amazing for him... turned out, they hoped she turned over a new leaf but figured it wouldnt last and it didnt, she started cheating and not being very sneeky about it, got herself in debt and tried to sell her 14yo's virginity to somebody, who pretended to agree, but instead gave the father a recording that showed her saying that and.. doing some very pornhubesque things to said fellow.. said hoped it helped in the divorce and custody issues.. her mom and sister pretended to be on her side and pushed her to try this very power play, then got her on video admitting she didnt even want kids, she only wanted the custody because it would hurt him and ensure she never had to work... the SIL, had gone no-contact with his ex as soon as she moved out for college, and came back because he was in need of help with the kids, since hes out of town alot, and the younger 2 needed somebody around and not the siblings raising them... turned out... he figured out pretty quick he married the wrong sister... took a while but the 7yo at her bday party, asked when dad was marrying her so they could call her mom... and let them in on the fact, they knew that auntie had been slipping into his room at night and out early in the morning... both of them thought the kids would be upset... when the 16yo daughter laughed this sort of harsh humorless laughs shes got in her arsenal, and said dryly "oh yeah, we are going to be upset that dads happy, and that we have an actual mom now, the horror, the horror" then bust out in a laugh that turned into a honk that turned into a breying shound... LOL...
anyway... her side of the family, are good eggs, shes the genuine black sheep of the family, by her own choices and actions... real crap person... the kids genuinely just started to call her mom after the 7yo's b-day party.. then started asking when they would be getting a sibling.. turned out.. she hadnt had any morning sickness but had been eating odd combos of stuff, and not noticed... the 16yo gave her a pre test her mother use to force the girls to take randomly... in the end... i watched my buddy(and buddies dad in this case...since im the elder kids age but have spent alot of time hanging with him and his wife, who are more like gen-x'ers then "boomers", after the ex was gone, and dude got shit sorted so he could be around more, we all discovered he shared alot of our interests, and dues a wizzard with models.. seen him take broken or ones missing small but key parts and..just craft a replacement, that a few times was more detailed then what was broken or missing... from cars/planes to wh40k models... he also became a huge anime fan, and his 2nd wife.. well shes a total weebshite and says as much proudly.. we got him into anime, the kids and his new waifu that is.. funny enough, sister is right between the kids and father/ex's age... it was funny as hell though seeing the girl spill the beans that everybody knew the 2 were togather..
turned out, she went in the first time knowing he was feeling really down and, not intending to start anything... they apparently just held eachother all night...but... it started something that became a regular thing... that progressed swiftly... honestly... he admits he was more shocked that everybody was aware and just telling them to make it official.. they sucked at hiding it after all... hell, his MIL told him "i always said you married the wrong daughter" her husband from the next room "shes not lying, she said that all along"... he had never met the sister hes still married to though, since as soon as his wife moved out they stopped having any contact at all..
i have seen stuff like this from both sides and always found it pretty amazing that their own family is so bad they are backing the ex/stbex...

I actually like the fact that the husband wasn't able to change his attitude until the end. In so many stories they seem to magically cure themselves towards the end after realizing what their actions created. But actually, people don't change that easily. So it's refreshing to see someone incapable of seeing their wrongdoings and fully get the blast of the repercussions.

The MIL really got me I thought she was actually helping her own son, but I'm glad she managed to help Ashley by giving her dumb-nut son a "perfect" advice by freeing Ashley from that awful husband, and Kevin getting karma for continuing his same self which led him to go downhill, it was a win-win.

But I’m happy that she was such a nice person to help Ashley free herself from her selfish, self-centered, egotistical , and abusive husband. i’m not surprised at him, trying to use divorce papers as a threat then being surprised that the OP signed them and left, considering the crap that he put her through. I wouldn’t be surprised if I just take that and run for the hills just like she did on top of his mother, being such a nice person, the fact of how when he ran out of people to blame, he immediately tried to turn on his mother, then had the audacity expect her to want to help him.

Be that it's their neighbours fault, the bus drivers fault, the fault of the people he works alongside, the poor cashiers fault when he's out shopping, the Government and society as a whole is all to blame for all Kevin's woes.

This is so crazy.. How many times should people remind someone?? If he has that much trouble remembering something, then he can write it on a post it note and put them where he will see them.. Kids in school are taught to remember things but this adult can't?? He's quick with the blame game that's for sure.. His mom is a perfect mother-in-law!! I hope that when she marries again, her mother-in-law will be just like Kevin's mom!!

What's wrong with Kevin? He's too irresponsible to be married. Wow. What did she in Kevin to marry him and stay married to him? At least she's not a doormat. I'm not surprised Kevin is lying to his mom. I'm surprised that the abusive spouse is intelligent to question the plan of threatening a spouse with divorce. Way to go, MIL!

"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Most adults understand this but, apparently, Kevin is emotionally still a ten-year-old. His mother was really diabolical in how she set him up. Karma sometimes comes from places you wouldn't suspect 😁

Honestly i think its a good thing she asked her mil for advice. As long as you don't expect the inlaws to everything for you and acknowledge that the partner is a grown adult who is responsible for their own decisions. Asking about behavior quirks can help with getting insight into what may work and what definitely won't, as well as getting favorite recipes and other similar stuff. Parents are likely to know stuff others don't about their kids and it can be a good starting point to build a good long term relationship with a subject both are interested in. The trick is both parties respecting any mutual boundaries and treating each other decent, just like any healthy relationship.

Stress is a huge factor in physical health. Whether it's an abusive partner, a hostile workplace, or any other situation involving toxic people who refuse to listen to reason, the only real cure is to remove yourself from the presence of such people. The stress levels will drop like a rock, and you can finally breathe easy and regain your health.

Life with an abusive spouse is just not worth it no matter what benefits you might have. Any type of abuse takes a mental and physical toll on your body that can sometimes have a high cost. Escape the situation as soon as possible.

This hit so close to home. My 1st husband was the same way. Unfortunately, his mother thought there was nothing wrong. My mother, however, did. I thank GOD for my mom and wish she were still with me. My 2nd, and still is my husband for 24 years now, is not like the first one. He actually cares about me as much as I do him. My ex? Lives in a dumpy trailer in a po-dunk town, barely scraping by. Egotistical and narcissistic as ever. I hear he has become a drunk womanizer.
