    One of England's best ever performances. As an England fan it was so great to see this, but such a shame that the squad couldn't reproduce this sort of form in the final versus South Africa. It was if they had no energy left, physically or mentally, for the final. Such a pity. Since this great effort, England have rather lost their way with very poor showings in the Six Nations in both 2021 and 2022.

      No excuses here from a kiwi, it was excellent from England but it was very similar to us with a 10 out of 10 performance the week before against Ireland. Then we had a flat performance the week after , it’s very difficult to play at that level week after week and you only have to be slightly down these days and the other team is up and that can be a major contributing factor , it’s all so even with talent now days .

      It sure does but that just adds to the mystery because England bullied the AB's all over the park yet just a week later were bullied themselves.

    I remember watching this and was sweating and had butterfly’s from the moment they came out the tunnel to until the final whistle. As an Englishman, the way england looked when they were doing the anthem was frightening. Some of them looked green with nerves. Farrel on the end looked the most composed of any of them and that takes some guts! Anyway the result was exactly what I spent 4 years dreaming of and even though we weren’t at our peak when the final came, I think this match and England’s performance was the highlight of the whole tournament. People will remember SA for getting the cup, but they’ll remember england just as much for this performance.

      I remember the build up to the 2003 World Cup, not just the 12 months prior but years of it. The intricacies of squad announcement, the interplay of who will work best with another. What’s best for the squad and sometimes that isn’t who’s the best player individually, I watched all the matches in 03 with my team mates from Colchester (cavaliers, 4ths) and we just all had a belief in that squad and yes it got a bit squiffy bum moments at times but their belief in the team got them through. This match was England’s final they were amazing.
      After this they were spent emotionally from coach downward, don’t believe me look at the NZ vs SA match in the earlier stages. Once sinkler was ko we didn’t have a hope, that said the tactics SA deployed in the final were adaptive and worked well for them.

Credit to NZ, even not at their best they lived with an awesome england performance. Never seen two teams play rugby at such a frenetic pace for 80 mins.

    The england pack were so far clear of the AB pack. The front rows were pretty even as were Read and Vunipola. Curry and Underhill were dominate against Savea and Barrett, but that is less suprising given the AB flankers are out of position. But the way Lawes and Itoje smashed Retallick and Whitelock (arguably the best pair to ever pack down at lock) was totally unheard of.

    I am English and our lads left everything out on the pitch in the qtr and semi finals vs Aus & NZ in 2019. Come the Final itself we had nothing left in the tank against SA and it showed. IMO (and I know some will disagree) but whilst it is obviously not impossible, it is a massive ask, physically and mentally, to play (and beat) ALL 3 of Rugby's 'Big Guns' in the same tournament in the KO stages. I still think Underhill's disallowed try should have stood. Even though Curry was ahead of the ball, he by no means initiated contact - he was hitting the gap between the defenders. The fact both of the All Black defenders made poor decisions and turned in to tackle him is a mistake by them rather than foul play by Curry.

      Imo the Underhill try was the right decision to be disallowed but the Youngs try is a disgrace, that was a definite try

      Tbf, I agree with that as well. It's weird because before the game if someone had offered a 19-7 win, I'd have bitten their hand off. But in retrospect, it's honestly kinda disappointing the score wasn't something ridiculous like 33-0

    Telling players where they should stand as any team does a Haka is just plain wrong. They can do whatever they like.

      Exactly. Why should teams have to stand there and face a Haka, yet not do anything in retaliation. I loved England moving forward enclosing the haka

      @@elscruffomcscruffy8371 it wasn't that they couldn't do what they wanted, they had to respect their sides. They prevented them from encroaching way past the midway point, nothing more.

      It's a WAR DANCE, it's meant to be faced up to, that would be real respect, taking it for what it is. What France did was also that, the modern equivalent of warriors. I think when pacific islands play, their war dances should be done at the same time :D

    • @charisanna4914
      @charisanna4914 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Matthew Smith I suppose so, I just feel like how else are you gonna stand up to them? If they turned their backs it WOULD be disrespectful, but I think encroaching a bit is within the spirit of the contest, though Joe Marler did get fined ^.^ I just feel like it shouldn't always be new zealand calling the shots of what they want in world rugby. That being said, I'm not from New Zealand, and perhaps I'd feel differently if it were my sacred war dance.

    As a South African, the honest truth is. New Zealand and England were the outstanding favourites. But South Africa, wales and Japan were the others. But South Africa flew under the radar and did it when it mattered. Unfortunately even now I still hear people from the northern hemisphere trying to down play our success. Trying to make it seem like we had an easy route or the opponents played badly.
