It’s a good question I know the 1275gt was heavier and was less aerodynamic than a ‘normal mini’ - it was cheaper to buy run and insure compared to the Cooper S though.
The Clubman GT had a lesser tune than the Cooper S. A single 1 1/2 su carb when the Cooper S had twin SU Carbs. Is short the car was a little cheaper to make, and they no longer paid 2 quid royalty to John Cooper.
I am surprised that the 1275 GT did not have greater performance. Why was it so much slower than the Mini Cooper S.
