Can't go wrong with tooling! When I got started I was overwhelmed by all the tooling and where to even start. And older Smith in my area helped me with my first set of tongs and a basics starter set. A round punch, drift and a hot cut chisel, he said put the effort in to learn the techniques well and you be able to make whatever tool you'll ever need when you need it...Best advice I've ever gotten. A year later I'm sitting on close to a 100 various tools and jigs and can say that Not a single one of them was a waste of time or money!
Roy, maybe there is or isn't but I've always wondered about bending fork size and spacing. Is there a general "rule of thumb" or Golden Rule if you will pertaining to the ratio of fork size to spacing and stock being bent?...just wondering because I've made them with various spacing by whatever just seamed to work, but find when doing scrolls some work better than others.
Hi Roy Im looking at making a horizontal set of forks so i can bend towards the floor, that way i wont be chasing my anvil around in circles, any thoughts, have you seen any made like that before?
@@bentoombs ill need a little more height, to bend to 45° should be more than enough, i want to improve on the technique I've been using to bend 2 tong blanks at a time
Ben Toombs I was picturing the same idea. Basically a hardy bickern with forks instead of a point, could twist it to whatever angle works well for your task. I made a dishing stump from an old oxygen bottle, filled it with concrete(close to 300lbs)...anyways, I welded various diameter pairs of round stock sticking off the sides for that purpose. Works for me and one less loose tool to keep up with. Whatever gets 'er done...
Thank you for the video. Nice easy tool... Or at least, you make it look easy...
GREAT VIDEO THANKS FOR THE IMFO CANT WAIT TO TRY IT

Hi Roy, thanks for sharing so much great information. Question, the pickling solution you use is just vinegar? God Bless.
I think I will have better luck with that style than my welded one I broke. Lol 👍👍

Make it like the steak rivit setter only forks. Then you can make it as tall off the side of your anvil as you need

You'll see overkill when I post my new bending forks on Instagram.
Would show it to my friends but none of them swing a hammer at hot metal.... Just seems like a waste of a good video LOL
