Omg grrr 4 YEARS AGO 😢 I absolutely adore you guys, I'm just gonna pretend that this is a newer video & you are still around 😊 and alone or not I'm building this deck on my 85 Chevy g20 van! Thank you so much
I've seen a few roof deck ideas but by far yours is the easiest and quick cheap good cool one suggestion - can you lower the volume of your BGM when you edit the video?
💯% agree!!! BGM is like garlic! - Just because you like it doesnt mean everyone else does and some of us have significant hearing issues that make the BGM drown out the talking. 😉
Has it ripped off in high winds yet and whats the gas mileage difference? I've seen 100s of these videos and nobody is answering those questions... I've heard stories about decks like this eventually coming apart on the highway...
@@TheAdrienneMayAwesome! I ended up making one out of solid plywood and 2x3s and then attached it to the roof racks with U-bolts. It's really solid, holds my weight and then some, hasn't come apart and doesn't seem to affect the gas mileage at all! Oh and it keeps the sun off the roof and keeps the van at least 10 degrees cooler! 👍
So, the only thing connecting the deck to the roof is the center rack, correct? This is awesome. I'm getting a van tomorrow to convert, and a roof deck is my top priority.
I don't think is very secured. I would use 3-4 racks. You basically have it connected just one roof rack. When you drive, the force of the draft/wind can break that rack and lose the deck and kill someone driving behind you. Very unstable, and very dangerous. I would say 4 very secured racks at least..
Thanks for that inspiration video, helps me about what I want ,I want to built a waterproof double roof on my van to keep inside cooler (sun get heat it) Then I will use it on top for few solar panel and underneath a kind of plastic roof opening to get the breeze coming from the wind by night time
wife Andrea from Singapore and I Giovanni Cuban Sicilian..we are building our rooftop..we like your simple n Q. I may have some questions though I'm a mech. eng. and amazing handyman but may ask questions.. is that ok?

Very nice diy project. I have made some pallet-wood projects and did not regret it. Keep on!!!
Thank you. We were very happy with how it turned out.

Does it make any noise at highway speeds?

Yep that's correct!!
Exciting! Good luck on your renovation. Our deck was our favorite part of ours
awesome video thank you! i was laughing half the time, your editing is hilarious

Should have a rubber seal between the wood and the roof body
A MOST helpful tip!!! 👍👍 People don't always realize how much wood can expand and contract with the changes in temperature!

Do you know what the wood was treated with to water proof it?

Sooo Coool !!! Thank you !
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
What kind of wood did you guys use ?
Great video

Roof top solar water heater
Great idea! Cool vid.
Thank you!
really cool and inspiring, thanks
Glad to hear! Thank you
Are the two end support ledges bolted to the roof or is it just the middle one that’s bolted to the roof?
I have the same question
3:38 it looks like you had some steel corners?
Also are you ever concerned about having only one center support?
Thanks !
I’d be! Concerned
Oh it only lumber was that cheap still haha
very true! Prices are through the roof right now. Hopefully they come back down soon!

Bet ya $50 that deck has ripped off the roof by this point. 🤪
Seriously peeps! Make sure you have aome means of bolting the deck at all four corners, as well as in the middle.
I wondered about the same thing! Content creators not replying to this comment makes me think you're absolutely right! 😕
Only $50! In extra gas every month to haul it around.
That's what I was wondering as I'm hoping to build out my roof with both solar and roof decking. Any stats on this? How to avoid "lift" vs < MPG
Ha. My thoughts exactly.
@@bjhessler162 Same thoughts here! Looks like the content creators decided not to respond to any comments related to safety and gas mileage...
