In Malaysia the other name of this fruit was "Durian Belanda" (Dutch Durian in Translation). Try less ripened one, and dip with vinegar or sweet soy sauce, litle bit sugar, hot chili and shrimp paste.. You'll fly to the heaven on the spot!
My favorite too. It is sweet when fully ripen. Also, the red ants like to cover themselves with leaves and disguise themselves in the shape of the fruits. When plucking, someone needs to be very careful.
