Justin, got to tell you, I thought for sure this video was a click bait. That there is nobody that knows the answer. “Just list and shut up about it”. Great video.
Excellent presentation on the EBay algorithm. I’m still stuck on the fact that eBay only gives us a certain amount of traffic daily instead of letting it keep going throughout the day.
More clothing resellers are requiring buyers to pay for return shipping. An item that "doesn't fit" or is the "wrong color" never should have been purchased in the first place. If the buyer pays for shipping both ways, the seller has some protection against looky-loos.
As a clothes seller this is the thing that most annoys me. I put measurements in photos and description, and people return because it "does not fit". 🤬
Yeah but they can return for item as not described and you will get negatives on your account. Guaranteed the buyers will say I didn't realize I had to pay for return shipping as well. Most buyers are conditioned to expect free returns because every big retailer offers this. That will backfire on sellers in the long run and is not really worth the few dollars it costs you to accept a return every now and then. I sell exclusively clothes and have under a 3 percent return rate. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.
Buyers just put not as described and return anyway. It doesn't matter why they think it wasn't as described. I've had "Not a 36" when the pants say 36 and they measure exactly what a 36 should measure. I just put on free returns then withhold original shipping for those now. I provide measurements and do not take lightly to people not using them.
@@michaels5676 I understand what you're saying. But let's say you buy a Peter Millar polo at Goodwill for $4.50 plus tax and that it sells for $20.00 plus shipping. Since it was promoted, ebay takes its slice, and you make about $8.00 net on the sale. Great! But wait, it was the wrong shade of purple, and the buyer wants to return it. After you pay shipping to get the shirt back, your profit to find that shirt its forever home is considerably reduced. I asked a big-time ebay reseller (and TH-camr) about this, and he said he doesn't pay shipping for buyers remorse returns. Only if he made a mistake or missed a flaw, etc.
I have had experiences where I've sold most of my inventory except for a few items, abandoned my account for years, and had a few things sell suddenly after a long period. Could there be a cyclical thing going on with the algorithm?
My only gripe with Item Not As Described is that buyers lie about the reason for it. I sell clothing and ive had many buyers return something because it didnt fit but they put it in the Item Not As Described category. Which then reflects bad on me even though I gave them correct measurements.
That's why, unfortunately, it's best to just offer free returns. A common seller scam I've come across as a buyer is the seller refunds and asks you to return the item at your expense (so they do not have to pay for the postage label). My response to this scam as a buyer now is to simply keep the item and the refund.
@@an1_uk You sound more like a scammer than the seller. This is why I don't issue a refund until the item is delivered back to me. (Which is what Ebay tells sellers to do)
@HammockHutOn3rd I fear you've misunderstood. Sellers think they have the upper hand by refunding and thinking you'll feel obligated to pay for postage to return the item. When the seller refunds, Ebay considers the matter dealt with and will ignore any complaints by the seller. Therefore, the buyer is no longer obligated to return the item. My point with highlighting my response to this seller scam is to show the pitfall in trying to do this for the seller, and that sellers can't rely on getting away with such a scam (and as you say should not refund until they have received the item). As a buyer I'm certainly not going to pay postage to return an item that was not as described, (significant damage not mentioned in description).when the seller has purposefully refunded so they do not have to pay for the postage label. It shows the seller was dishonest both in not describing the item correctly and in refunding and asking you to pay for return shipping.
In my head, I imagine a wheel that you spin to win a prize. All the factors that influence your chances are on the wheel. As you accomplish the important steps, these factors fall off. Eventually, you win, by getting a sale!!
I'm surprised people don't farm auction items for deals? I'm new to reselling and decided to try an auction thinking I could post it and forget about it until it closed. However, when it closed I noticed it didn't get any bidders. This surprised me because it was a $200 item with a starting bid of $20 so someone could have easily bought it for the $20 bid, and relisted it for $200 Buy Now since that is what comps were selling for on this item. I wonder if people looking to buy click the "Buy Now" option so it excludes the auctions or just accustomed to ignoring auctions when they are looking to buy?
I think eBay would do exceptionally well if they kept our sales closer to us verse selling across the country. eBay has enough sellers to do this and should test it out. It takes longer and customers become impatient due to Amazon being able to deliver in a day.
I never sell lower than other sellers in my category. I know I have desired items so I won’t lower my prices or promote my listings. I do pretty well and have been selling for 4 years.
@@Rapunzel122-s9w i always put my prices as low as possible and accept all low offers although i am not the lowest price available. I try to sell things people need and not what they want. I've only been selling for 1 years and am growing consistently.
Do you think blocking buyers affects sales? It says you can block 5000 buyers. I have blocked about a dozen, some rude, others time wasters and a couple I think are scammers. Since I did this my sales have plummeted. I don’t know if this is cause or coincidence. I have since unblocked them and have noticed a slight increase in sale again. Also, do you recommend pay per click or general ad campaign for buy it now items?
I saw the Al Gore Rhythm at Coachella last year. They got the most votes for best performance, but the judges appointed someone else as the winner. Some guys just can't catch a break... 🤷♂
Great video. Have you ever considered doing a video on common and the best abbreviations to use and what they mean?
Awesome awesome as always!! You are so helpful.

Wow greatest vid so far. Much better then other ahem TH-camrs ahem

Excellent video!
Great topics. Thank you!
Great info !!! Thanks Justin ☺️
Do you promote all your listings or just the listings that have competition?
Justin - to clarify, to manually delist/relist also creates a new item number like sell similar? Thanks

Do most people not simply sort price low to high, then scroll through to find the most agreeable?!

Hopefully you are reporting these buyers, misusing Not As Described will get them banned if they do it enough.

Justin, you said you try to list 35 items a day? Did you mean a week? 35 a day seems tough. I’m lucky to get 5 a day part time.
that was a mistake. i meant per week, not day 🙃
I have trouble getting two a day done but I'm very new at eBay
Great video. Many of these factors are revealed in section 6 of the eBay User Agreement.
True. But most people don't read it. 😅

Lots of resellers out there source via auctions on eBay only to turn around and sell it as a buy-it-now on eBay! Very common.
I think eBay would do exceptionally well if they kept our sales closer to us verse selling across the country. eBay has enough sellers to do this and should test it out. It takes longer and customers become impatient due to Amazon being able to deliver in a day.
You can help influence that by using calculated shipping. people further away will be charged a higher price and people closer to you a lower price.
I love the Arabian nights music 😂
Selling things that have high sell through rate, selling lower than others, promote listing and be available for questions help me sell fast.

Coincidence for sure. I block buyers all the time!
Skip the PPC campaigns for most items and use standard promotions.
Thank you 😊.
I block buyers and never had an issue. I have about 8 blocked.
Be careful with measurements in sell similar. I find inaccurate measurements all the time which may lead to INAD.
peanut butter and fluff, please
