Something that I absolutely hate about the gobblegum system that I swear I NEVER see anyone talk about is how it ruined co-op play, not just from how overpowered they were, but because of the fact that the second someone running them went down, there was about an 80% chance that they would dashboard, which meant that co op matches would quickly become solo matches due to everyone leaving since they don't want to risk losing their gums. Sure, ragequitting has always been a thing, but in BO3 it was an exponentially more prevalent issue since it was directly incentivized.

Honestly it's just a theory, but it's really likely that it's an in game problem because it happen on both Playstation and Xbox. Which normally glitches that severe aren't cross platform.
But it's not like Treyarch weren't aware of it...with how popular and well known it was.
I think they didn't know it was in the game, but decided it wasn't worth trying to fix.

@@CJSanta honestly they’re ruining the game for me.
The only reason I used to like bo3 was because of nostalgia themed maps, but I’ve come to think of it as shallow and boring. I pretty much only play black ops 1 at this point. Bo2 is kinda good, but bo4 was god-awful crap. Too much going on, too many perks. Too many guns, too crazy abilities. To top it all off, a zombie health cap that destroys the whole point of the anyway. I thought bo1 map MOON had too much going on when I first played it!
I just hope they release a game like black ops 1 soon… I’ve kinda given up. And then there’s high rounding. High rounding on black ops 1 and WAW takes complicated strategies and a whole heck of a lot of skill. High rounding on bo4 is basically:
      Step one: get razor.
Step two: knife the whole game.

I can tell you. I loved the gumballs because me and my friends used them a lot without purchasing them with real money. We were completing the EEs with our low stock. Before the match, we would organize the gumballs we had available and made sure to use even the crappy ones to their best use possible. It encouraged an incredible amount of cooperation and coordination that made completing the EEs more rewarding.

Finally someone said it, closing app literally ruined public matches forever however I do think that if they worked like they did in IW there wouldn't be as much outrage compared to how it was in BO4. In IW if you use an evade card for example and refill your card deck to use it 3 times, the game will still only count it as one consumption instead of like in the other games where each individual pop counted as one consumption. People will still complain if there is no glitch but this would still go a long way for the rest of us who are actually capable of playing BO3 without megas.

Not to mention that because of the gobblegum system, Treyarch was likely forced to scrap all of their perk ideas so that they can create a bunch of useless gobblegums to create bloat in the gobblegum pool so that rare gobblegums are actually rare. I'm glad bo4 partially learned from this mistake and decided to make some of the most unique and fun per ideas in the series. I feel like they made Cold War so easy because everyone hated how difficult bo4 was, and at the time with how rushed things were, it makes sense to take a safe route and make an easy zombies experience. I hope bo6 keeps some of the Cold War casual-ness because I love looking down at all of the shitters who struggle against AI zombies, but I also hope they start making large and complex zombies maps like bo4's and some of bo3's

For me the introduction of gobblegums/elixirs directly coincided with me losing interest with and dropping COD zombies as a whole.
Been playing since WAW and only recently returned to the zombies community in 2024 via BO3's Custom Zombies.
There are 3 big issues that make them ruin the game for me.
    1. Prime example of lootboxes, good gums are insanely rare to get without paying, meaning they are reserved for E.E runs 99% of the time instead of being used freely or are just infinitely cheesed by dashboarding.
    2. Ruined game balance and progression. Not fun to be in a game where 1 guy has every perk and PAP'd weapons on round 3 while you still have an RK5.
    3. 90% of co-op games ending the moment someone who used a valuable gum goes down. They will ALWAYS dashboard in order to keep them. It's impact on the ability to play public matches was so bad it honestly deserves a whole video just specifically talking about it.

The gobblegum and the crack speed zombies are the reason I never got into BO3 zombies. Micro-transactions has no place in a game I paid 60 dollars for (only place I understand is a free mobile game). Even if I don't use the gobblegums, the game is still balanced for the use of these paid cheat codes. Widows Wine is overrated due to the fact that I still get hit when I'm training, so If I get cornered without any webs remaining, I'm done for. These crack zombies legit drain all of my webs before I can be in the position to need it 💀

as someone who did say elixers were weak in bo4 and only used classics and just recently used a unlimited plasma mod i agree that i find them so op now but the main problem is ultra elixers are so hard to get in bo4 compared to bo3 and i barely used the gobblegum glitch cause i wanted high rounds to stay on my leaderboard

    • @IceTutuola

Yeah elixirs are definitely much weaker in Bo4. Shopping Free just isn't as good for some reason, and perkaholic is really just used as "Free Dying Wish" for most people. And I don't like when people say Gobblegums aren't PTW, because they totally are. Most of the time when someone has an issue with a map, people say to just run gobblegum X, Y, or Z, in which case many people like myself just don't have more than like 2 of each Mega or whatever.

It's something to grind for in game. One of the problems with Cold War was that once you get all of the permanent unlocks there's not really anything to go for besides high rounds. Adding gobblegum's will make the earlier seasons way more fun because people are going to grind gums for the upcoming new maps. IDK how it'll age though.

While I usually disagree with your stance on gums (mostly because they weren't really necessary, there were plenty of workarounds, and even the swing speed didn't bother be as it's something that kept me more engaged), this actually IS the one thing I fully agree with you on. People loved dashboarding, or as you referenced it, exiting application. People loved doing this in general to keep the gums, they only had to use them once for EE completions, after that you can craft or spin for more and never lose them.
If this was a failsafe as people have said, then why didn't BO4 have it for the elixirs? Exactly as you said, they didn't want to fix it and screw with BO3's popularity, so it was easier to keep it to retain the high BO3 was on. And the worst part is while I don't think it's forced in general, it IS necessary to compete quests in ZNS (you need ABH for one of the steps), and I'll even throw in Rev because that main quest was poorly made and it shows. Whereas in BO4, it is even less necessary, the only time I could think of it being necessary is IX.
So yes for this video, you definitely hit the nail on the head.

Imagine how enraging it would be to lose something that you potentially PAID for over reasons that are entirely out of your control?

I have and will always say that gobblegums are a legal mod menu. You hit the nail on the head, it’s players being coddled by the systems in place and it downright makes players hostile towards any game that doesn’t include them. And when you take it away from them, the game sucks. None of them want to admit that lol
Gumballs also ruined pubs unfortunately. You’re playing with other people who are invincible using their mod menus and will dashboard the second they go down
These people don’t want to play zombies
Also on a side note, the hit speed isn’t the only buff zombies got in BO3. They also don’t properly hoard up as tightly as they used to. A full hoard is about 3 times bigger than one in BO1/BO2. And also all BO3 maps feature verruckt sprinters (same speed not animation) by default. Oh, and zombie pathing isn’t as crisp as it used to be either

I don’t mind using gobblegums, I just don’t dashboard, and save them and use them when I feel like it. As someone who plays on group posts on bo3 since my friends don’t play the game, and most people dashboard when they die once. They most of the time haven’t even used any of their good gobblegums, and when they don’t dashboard, they whine and complain about how they lost them, when they could have just not used them at all. What makes it worse is that I’m level 1000 and I’m expected to use the best gobblegums possible, as if I have a full arsenal of go to gobblegums. To conclude, I don’t mind using them at all, but it’s that the coop games ruined bo3 zombies horribly, and I like to play coop zombies because there are some cool people out there, but now it’s mostly filled with desperate, weird people who will leave at the snap of a finger because they lost a digital piece of gum.

The earn rate for plasma is lower when you factor in the amount needed for a single or multiple elixirs / gums.
Additionally, the classic elixirs have a much longer recharge rate than those using plasma, which might not actually have any cool down time. Waiting for a single elixir to recharge can take more than five rounds and every time it takes longer. At lest with gums you are guaranteed to cycle through them in five uses of the machine.
What's also worse is that AATs got nerfed into the ground to the point of only being useful to slow zombies down or against water elementals.
I honestly would not really care that much if if players could not use real money to buy gums and elixirs and if the leaderboards were separated based on no gums, classics and megas - but that is a separate issue.
It is a system that harms the consumer, encourages gambling and prevents people from putting in the effort to actually improve.
The only difference is that the Black Ops 3 version was cheaper - effectively free after an initial investment - and provided the player with very strong free alternatives.
ABH, IPS, Alchem, Arsenal Accelerator, Lucky Crit and Danger Closest (for SOE) are more rewarding and infinitely cheaper than Perkaholic or Cache Back.
I don't know why you would defend turning a free alternative into a less useful more expensive version.

I loved gobblegums and I always close app to save gobblegums. But Your criticism of how it ruined leaderboards and public matches is a very good point. A solution to this wouldve been to have a classic alternate game mode without them. Imagine this The classic way wouldve had the same mechanics as Bo1 and bo2. The Classic way is the usual two hits but no super sprinters. However with gobblegums its the Bo3 system which means super sprinters and faster hit system, this wouldve allowed a trade off. Its also a problem vice-versa too I remember I used a perkaholic ready to and someone else was host with just me in game which ended the match, making me lose my gobblegum.

black ops 3 gobble gums were only loved because you could quit out, making the pay2win feature not matter at all. you had infinite gums. i used them from time to time but its not something i often used. only when i didnt feel like setting up or when i just wanted to be overpowered is when i used them. now that the gobblegums in bo6 have been unveiled to be built into the gameplay without any external pay2win features im still kinda skeptical but i think having to fulfill challenges in order to activate them definitely can make them feel less overpowered and more rewarding.
edit: i dont really think bo3 was made difficult to entice people to get gobblegums and if it was, they failed at it. in fact i think bo3 is way easier than bo1 and bo2 even without them. especially early rounds where having no jug could instantly down you in 2 hits compared to 3 hits in bo3.

Gobblegums would also make co-op matches borderline unplayable. If the host went down, he’d close app and everyone else would too while the connection interrupted screen appeared. I don't think Bo3 is easy cause of gobblegums, its just generally easy. The three hit down and movement mechanics make it easier to avoid hits and dodge than in previous games. I think the ADS times were also messed with, but I can't be certain. Overall Bo3 was, from what i can tell, just faster paced than Bo2 and the gameplay changes reflected that, which also reflected in zombies as being ridiculously easy by comparison. Whenever i play Bo2 i simply pay slightly more attention so i dont get cornered, in Bo3 if i have one of two particular default gobblegums i dont need to waste that extra 2% attention span.
Yes, Bo3 is much easier, probably the easiest zombies we hav yet, but not because of gobblegums

This is something that blows Zombies players mind, but in spite of how popular the mode is, people primarily just want to kill Zombies, and the Gobblegums as a tool made that aspect much easier. When the game has complicated set ups, quests and EEs without a vehicle to do so easily, the player base drops to the floor and it only leaves behind the hardcore players which there's *far* less of. This is why Cold War was as huge as it was, as it simplified every aspect of the mode for the silent majority, and is also why BO3 had staying power because of the Gobblegum, as intricate as those maps are, they're not nearly as tough with a cruise control mechanic.

So they could make the hit speed faster, to make the game more artificially difficult. It takes around 4 and a half seconds to go down with Jugg in bo2, in bo3 its 2.4 seconds.

I'll admit that many gobble gums do cheapen the progression of the game but them being optional makes that a non-issue. Sometimes it's fun to just hop on and pop a Perrkaholic or to use a rain drops.
It's obviously not a perfect system and the insistence on them lead to the lack of perks on bo3 which sucks but it doesn't mean that they aren't a good concept.

I felt like they were necessary for preventing unfair downs. To be honest, I'm not sure what percentage of my downs were instadowns in bo3.
Dont get me started on bo4. Without the shield on, you are at a constant risk of random backshots killing you with no idea what you did wrong. Probably why dying wish was introduced.

But that's the issue, that's what I'm talking about.
"The gums save you from unfair downs" and those downs were made that way so you would USE the gums.
It's a vicious cycle more diabolical than the cycle on Mob of the Dead 😭

@CJSanta don't get me wrong, this was very intentional by design. Bo4 just isn't fun for my by its design alone. Bo6 is either going to be for babies or masochists.

Man, the four maps at launch was too much. I need time to learn the map. Build a relationship with it and be hype for the future. I think it was a good call to release with 2 maps. MrTLexify makes this point many times

    • @CJSanta
      @CJSanta  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@elizaleski9618 I don't think launching with more content, when we don't get less content throughout the dlc season is a good argument whatsoever.
Black ops 2 also had two main maps with tranzit and nuketown, while having 3 survival maps as well. That game also gave us 4 dlc maps throughout its season.
Less is only better when the content is there within the maps and Cold War failed in that aspect with Die Machine.

They had four years to develop the game. Two maps isn't enough.
Also, I can't believe I need to point out the fucking obvious, but if there's more to learn about the maps, that means the player is engaged with the game for longer.
      Lex is a fucking dumbass.

@@CJSantabo2 had TranZit on launch which people hate bo2 didn’t do well in zombies til Mob people were incredibly concerned about zombies future after die rise two maps should be the gold standard of launch only games that hit that gold standard were bo1, and BO3, bo4 was a lot of content in those four maps but a lot of bugs and issues as well

    • @CJSanta
      @CJSanta  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@bryonhughes7943 this notion that Mob saved bo2 is dubious at best.
While the map was fantastic and ushered in a new era of zombies, there no notable drop in player counts for bo2 at all during its launch and first dlc.
Bo2 is one of the most populated games of the time, and while tranzit had its issues, it had alot of eyes on it from the community due to the mystery of the map.
And for casuals, Town was the best experience with all that they could want right infront of them.

@@CJSanta there is no way to prove that player count was higher or lower I referring to community sentiment which it was very negative until Mob the only good thing at launch was town and mule town zombies I think that was at launch correct me if I’m wrong which idk from what I remember the community was very wishy washy about that map point is bo2 started off incredibly poorly but ofc it got better

bo3 is not difficult or more difficult than previous games. The gum just speeds up the gameplay and if you get 1 hacked lobby you never have to worry about divinium again. Adding more perks would have been a cluster fuck because bo3 already had the great old perks. Plus the rng of the gum means you don’t get game breaking gum every round and it gets super expensive to reroll the machine so you can’t just spam it to get the gum you want forever. So what if people like the glitch? Seems reasonable that you’d want to keep your property

I honestly think if as long as they a) make the game more challenging like mw3, and b) only have classic gums, this system van potentially be avoided, maybe ill end up eating those words idk, but whatever, i liked cw despite how easy it was and im hopimg bo6 improves on it, please for the love of god dont suck
