As a former industrial TV producer, long since retired, and also a model rail enthusiast for years, I have to take my hat off to the production skills on this video. The synchronisation of the sound effects is epic. The whole thing tells a wee story and it's hard to believe that it is not for real! Well done.
This has to be the ‘Benchmark’ in You Tube model railway videos, the layout is aspirational, such detail and authenticity ..........Absolutely brilliant!!!
TH-cam algorithm directed me to your site a few weeks ago, and I am glad it did. I have had the pleasure of watching several episodes. I have seen model railways which are as well crafted as yours, but I have never seen any one presented so well! Sound, visuals, stories all work together to raise your efforts to the level of art. The rest of us try to be good craftsmen and enjoy our hobby. You, sir, are an artist! I salute you!
That is perhaps the finest model railroad I have ever seen. Just beautiful. And beautifully lit and videoed. I was an avid modeler many years ago trying to capture American Maine two-foot gauge. Back then I never would have thought I'd so many years later comer across such a masterpiece. Well done. Well done.
Thank you Jack, that’s very kind of you. Appreciate it. I have been watching a lot of American model railroad channels recently, so I’ll have to take a look and see if anyone is currently modelling that area now. Thanks again.
This brings me back to my days as a fireman on the North Yorksire Moors Railway. One day my driver and I were on our ways on the 1:49 between Grosmont and Goathland, with Schools class Repton, with 7 or 8 Mk.1 coaches bvehind us. The rails was greasy due to some light drizzle and despite the driver's best efforts and me operating the sanding gear, we got stuck on the bank and had to call for assistance. So a moment later a "Black Five" buffered up at the rear of the train and we completed the ascend to Goathland.
Great stuff Tim - I cant imagine that was the first time and it’s certainly not last! Grosmont to Goathland is my favourite stretch of any heritage railway I think. I’m yet to experience a train stalling but have witnessed a few slogs in unfavourable conditions. I can only imagine what it’s like to drive and fire on that stretch!

I've seen loads of model rail videos but this one . . . . wow! The shallow video depth-of-field, attention to detail and use of stable camera support, never mind the really well coordinated sound-effects make this the best model rail video I've seen so far. A real joy to watch!
That is a fabulous layout, love the sound clips, the synchronisation, the twittering birds, the detail, the story, and incredible job there - truly impressive!
This brings back so many memories of my train spotting days in Solihull in 1963.Standing on bridges watching and smelling live steam locos going past and getting cinders in my eyes from the smoke.I love the scale speed which really makes a model railway realistic.

I'm not surprised that poor K1 did flounder, with the weight of all those box cars AND utility vans! Really think this video shows your mastery of sound syncronisation to it's full. Well done Lewis, that was great and thanks for entertaining us so! Teresa (Findhorn Light - currently still in lockdown)
Great little story. The Black 5's are one of my favourite locos. I have too many on my S&C layout but they sound fantastic at the head of a 20 wagon coal load ..
What is great here is that you make little masterpieces like that with a few elements. Everything else is pure talent. Also, great idea the shot through the greenery. Simple, but powerfull. Keep on the good storytelling !
You truely make the train feel heavy. I often feel many model rail videos undercut the power of a locomotive, giving it too few cars to pull, but you've done this real justice.
Framing that overhead shot with with two trees is a good technique to pool a viewer into a scene. It's a subjective view, making the viewer feel like they are actually there. I do this sometimes with my models, temporarily placing objects into a scene just to get that feeling. Loved the video. And also realised it's Thursday already. Heck!
Hi Lewis, one of your best videos, very innovated with a great story line. The sound on your locos is really excellent. Keep making these great videos. Cheers Greg
Blimey! Double-header on the parcels. Looked great running through Ponden. You even had the sound of the buffers touching. Lovely stuff as always. All the best.
Just come across this, it is brilliant, in fact the most realistic interpretation of railway operation I've seen, I have also never heard sound so close to the real thing{ I have always pooh pooh'd it), your portrayal of the everyday railway scene is spot on...........LMS Black 5 assisting a struggling Eastern Region loco LOL, love the ER too.!!! Rgds..Mike .........
Thanks Mike. I always hope not to offend with the choice of loco that end of struggling in these videos! I’m sure a real K1 could handle a load like that with no bother. Appreciate it.
Brilliant layout, good sound added, although not entirely convincing in parts, but still I appreciate the huge amount of effort you put in, to make it sound realistic..at first I thought it was dcc sound..but overall it works really well, the angles of the camera, make this a truly inspiring, and enjoyable video to watch..
Well it appears there were no passenger trains delayed as a result. That certainly was quite a load for the K1. Thanks for another great tale from the saga of The Yorkshire Dales Model Railway. David.
Me again Lewis, just watched the video for the 3rd time and I have to say of all the videos I have watched on TH-cam yours is the only one that has had a story-line. Put your thinking cap on and make more, though I don`t expect everyone to have a story-line Cheers Greg
