Plastic straw like from fast food drink is what I use for tdc. I've done a few hammer1275 builds on sportsters. And yes the front connecting rod typically has some side to side play. The rear tends to only have a slight wiggle. Good video
I've lift mine with ratchet straps slung over a 4*4 spanning between two 8' step ladders. I did modify a ATV lift to fit the can. I use that all the time. Wheels, forks, oil. Easy. I still lift the front end the old way when I go through the top end or pull the cases.
an old spark plug, drill it out, some fuel line and a whistle. Assemble and install into the plug hole. When the whistle sounds insert your screw driver because you're approaching TDC fast and it'll not bind then. Don't you have a timing hole that shows a mark on the flywheel? I believe I saw the hole for it in between your pushrod tubes. At the block end of the tubes you'll see a hex head 3/8 allen key bolt. Remove it and look inside. As soon as the mark is vertical #1 is top dead center. This way you don't need a screwdriver in the plug hole at all
There's an allen screw that's between the cylinders on the cam side when you pull that out it reveals a line on the crankshaft when it's at top dead center.
Fantastic and informative videos. They're going to help so much. I've owned Buells before but this one I'm doing now is a complete restoration. The bike came originally from Washington US. It not been registered in the UK yet. For a bike that's showing 6500 miles it's had a hard life. Once again Thanks
Clive Davis I appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to watch the videos. I really hoped they would help other buell owners, and I’m glad to see that they are! Good luck with the restoration and let me know if you have any questions.
Yeah, looks like the 2007 version already came with beefed up swingarm. Thought it might have been '08 and up, but I was wrong. Compare with the old bike to see what it used to look like: i.ytimg.com/vi/1hYrMrwg-o4/maxresdefault.jpg

Ratchet straps or come-a-long from ceiling rafter or reliable hang point too

At 8:28 Owen Wilson enjoys what he sees..."wow".
Just started watching, can't wait to find out how this breakdown and rebuild turns out.
Good stuff man !
Great video and explanation of how to find TDCC!

Kinda like the timing holes from days gone by?
Nice video! I'll wait for the next one. Good job!
Breno Miranda Thanks! New upload coming soon. The final pieces of the rear cylinder should be back from the machine shop this coming week.
I'm litterally doing the same thing at the moment!! Hit me up to ride if you are ever in florida!
Also looking for dimensions of stand. Can you help?
Any info on taking a 2000 x1 lightning motor apart to do gaskets have a leak and can’t find it anywhere so want to re do all gaskets and seals
Great video! Question? Did you take the throttle body off before you split the bike or after?
Thanks! Yes, it was actually removed in part 1 of this video series around the 13min mark.
If the cylinder wall is glossy I'm pretty sure that us from excessive heat
Any chance of the measurements for the stand, Cheers . Regards Clive in Bedford England.
Clive Davis no problem. I can post the dimensions for you. I’m out in LA this weekend so I’ll post them when I get back to FL.
@@LifeOfMikeChannel Thankyou.

Use a sofa straw to watch pistons move
Looks like someone fitted it with a long swingarm (off an SS or a Uly), is that right?
I was under the impression it was a stock firebolt swingarm, but this is my first Buell so I'll have to look into that.

lots of carbon on the piston - how much miles does it have?
mbvalency just over 14,000 miles
@@LifeOfMikeChannel thanks, that's less than what I thought. Watching Part 5 right now.
NEVER trust a jack to hold a vehicle. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use JACK-STANDS.
Chopstick or a drinking straw instead of a screw driver
Ended up going with a wooden bbq skewer.
Air cooled motor. You're gonna find metal in the oil every now and then. 😔
