That's the best looking BK 18 I've seen yet. But, I'm concerned about it rusting? BTW your videos are coming through as age restricted? Makes it where I can't cast it to my TV
I think if I allow all ages it shuts down the comment section now...I'll have to see if that's true. As for the knife , no issues with rusting cause the steel polishes up really easy with a loaded strop. I live in Oregon and whittle with it in the rain while walking my dogs. I just wipe it dry on my pant leg before sheathing it and haven't had any rusting yet. This is my first kabar becker I really like their 1095hc. It sharpens up very clean holds a good edge , it reminds of Tops 1095. This bk18 has really grown on me ...At first I was a bit unsure but it was the scales that changed the whole feel. I highly recommend this blade but I think the scales are a must have. Its definitely worth the money but at first I really struggled with buying a set. It's really a great rig esp the stock sheath , it's nice not having to find another one out the gate.
Yeah man she's a beauty! I have the 15. It has a longer blade and finger choil. Is discontinued though. Not big on choils but it works. Have to get a vid up some day. You should put up more knife vids here! 👍
Thanks for the video. Just received my harpoon today. Will be purchasing new handle once it's back in stock. Was it hard to remove the paint from the blade? What did you use to remove it? Paint remover? Also, did you use anything special to polish the blade. Looks Great !
Thanks and no problem, I used the gel style paint remover I've tried the spray stuff and it seems to not work as good. This coating came off very easy compared to others. The polish is from using the green stroping compound on Amazon. They sale a 4×8 inch leather piece that comes with a small square green compound. I highly recommend it , the leather is perfect and the compound works great. When you remove the coating your blade will have almost a tarnish like patina . If you leave the upper edge alone with the kabar logo and just strop the relief edge it looks wicked .
@@airiksknifereviews9548 really? Just the green Compound on the strop did that? How long did that take? Looks amazing well done both videos have been great
@@shellycarr6236 Thanks . Mainly it's the compound but ...I did use 600 , 800 , 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper to convex the edge. ..but the higher portion of the flat grind I stayed away from . I used bubble wrap on a board and stropped the V grind shoulders down . Most of polish though came from the compound stropping .
WOW, those mods make that knife freak'n SWEET !!!
Damm that bk18 is sure a keeper

how do you go about getting a convex edge on your blades and what do you use to get the mirror like polish finish
How did you convex the edge? Water stones or belt grinder ?
This is probably a dumb question but how did you get the coating off
Can you link to the liners you used to thicken the handle?
I made them , just bought liners from a knife supply company traced um out and sanded to fit.
How did strip it and polish it? Thu
What are the scales mate? From/for another Becker IE; interchangeable from other models or...specifically for the harpoon?
Ethan Becker has a site that sales them . They are the Becker BK 16 after market Micarta scales. All the Becker "tweeners" have the same handle size.
