I own a Icom 740 that is 34 years old and has never had a problem. It has worked over 350 countries in cw/phone . Icom makes the best armature radio gear there is you just can't get better gear.
the new version of the Icom IC-7700 does not use two MRF150 transistors in the PA anymore, it uses now 1 single transistor, an entirely different one. there were lots of problems with the pair of MRF150, they quickly damaged and the repair costs $2000.
they just charged me $763 for both.....with labor....has the 2 MPF 150's I think it is....but the rig was free to me....had a note on it, no transmit, bur receives well....I sent it to Icom....they said $763....I said fix it....$5995, with a power cord, and a manual, from GigaParts....nothing else....
I inherited a free, broken IC-7700....almost a grand to fix it, with Ins./shipping both ways (there was a note on top: receives, but no transmit)....got more goodies than I know how to use, and a 240+page manual....but beats paying $6000 for a new one.....for the big bucks....it should have a 2nd rcvr, like the K3, and K4 (????)....but so far, I do like it.....the internal tuner can't do some of my wire antennas, but it does work on 160M....as my TS-850S does, but my TS-440SAT won't tune on 160....I'll spend the winter, and a few contests, getting familiar w/it.....love CW, so I'll concentrate on getting those parts of the radio down first.....and I do like it, cuz I ain't been on 6 meters, in 30+ years.....and it has 6M.....
I just purchased an ICOM 7700 from a friends estate and I replaced my ICOM 7600 which I loved very much. I love Big Radios with lots of buttons and knobs and the 7700 has a total of 90 of them.Several are dual knobs but they are still a knob. It’s a Sweet radio by any standard. It’s a great combination with the ICOM PW-1.👍🎙❤️
