Virgil going to the past just sounds incredibly sad to me. Like, everyone hated him in the first couple of episodes, and then he's friends with everyone and things are going good, then suddenly he wakes up in 2017 (that's usually where people decide to send him), he'd probably think the entire thing was a dream. Then he'd get summoned by Thomas and try to get used to them calling him by his title again, everyone told him he was good and it took a minute but he believed them, going to the past might backtrack that. Or, maybe, he wouldn't even know he was in the past until Thomas summoned him. He might think Thomas was mad at him for some reason because he wasn't calling him by his name. Like there was so much angst potential here.

It could be like Thomas doesn’t know what’s happening and just kinda starts doing his usual stuff, confusing all the sides. Maybe you could even have him see his past self as well! If you’ve already started writing that’s fine! Just an idea :)
