In all of my years of homesteading, I've found the most often overlooked factor is owning a super cute pair of bib overalls. Believe me, the cows will notice as they're more fashion conscience than people realize.
Thanks for the info! I have a field that I am reclaiming from the weeds in hopes of raising a couple of cows some day. It is a slow process, but will be totally worth it in the long run.
Some great advice was given for sure. If you can roll out the bales, even better. But I would also say to you Ma'am, don't poo poo on mowing the pasture to keep everything growing and knock the seed heads off whilst mowing the grasses off to regrow more - the mowing adds biomass to the soil which helps to hold moisture and increase soil fertility. You can time it out with grazing as well.
Soil water. There's adhesion and cohesion. Adhesion is water that sticks to the water that has cohered and cohesion is water that adheres to the soil but is not available to the plants but allows water that is available to the plants, stick to the water that is not. So cohesion is essential and can be identified by how well the soil is able to be formed into a ball when the soil is relatively dry
This was vwey helpful! We are in the PNW as well. Whatcom county and we are looking to create pasture. We are in the process of clearing the land. I'd love if you made a video about how to create the best pasture. Meaning, a place that hasn't been grazed at all. From what I took from this video is feeding them good quality hay and let them trample it in to add nutrients and also Redmond salt to create a fertile environment for when we do plant feeding crop? I guess that's how I would start. Thanks for the informational video ❤
Look up running t farms he feeds 43 cows on an 1/8 of an acres a day. He backs them in at 600,000 lbs per acre. At that packing rate the will trample everything in that field

You could get or 'rent' goats to help get the thistles under control.
