    Maybe the Second Death Star was able to re-fire a lot quicker, because it probably doesn't take as much Cyber Crystal Juice to destroy a Capital Ship as it would an entire Planet.

    There's one more legends source that gives us insight on how the superlaser worked. In Rogue Squadron 3, Rebel Strike, the imperials build a superlaser on the planet Dubrillion, presumably a prototype for the Death Star 2. In the game, Wedge Antilles uses an At-At to destroy 3 spinning generators on the inside, taking out the laser. These bear a striking resemblance to the generator in the death star

    That beam shaft at 1:43 is likely a center focusing laser, as look at its size relative to those workers, vs the incredibly large lasers that are visible from miles away in the external view. A laser of the size in the interior shot would likely not be visible in the exterior shot due to how small it is, and it was likely fired from the center of the disc to hit the collision point of the other lasers and unify them all into one shot.

    I hadn't seen Rebels or read any canon or legends (I'm more of a fan of the movies) but I was aware of how light sabers were powered. When they mentioned that the Death Star was powered using the same crystals as light sabers in Rogue One I remember being shocked and whispering to myself "blasphemy!". It seemed so wrong that the empire would use them for evil than for good and (to me) really helped the story out.

    the firing rate isn't based on the weapon configuration but on the charge level used and energy reserves depleted with each shot. taking out several rebel ships quickly uses a small fraction of the power required to destroy a planet.

  • @rm1floyd
    @rm1floyd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm thinking that the cyber crystals only transform energy directed at them (or into them) into the beam of a light saber or super laser. So, recharging the superlaser might be like recharging giant capacitors before firing. Maybe they are able to recharge faster. Or maybe they just use "one reactor" at a time to fire quickly at capital ships. There are 8 reactors after all.

    Kyber Crystals do not POWER anything, they only BEND ILGHT like diamonds. The Death Star is powered by the fusion of interstellar hydrogen.
    According to the original Star Wars novel by George Lucas, the Death Star blew up planets by "an abstract M/A equation," i.e. conversion of matter to energy, since fusion converts matter to energy by converting hydrogen to iron or lighter elements.

  • @rashid4735
    @rashid4735 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    it is anti matter, the green outsid is plasma, which is a conductor of electricity, the red part in the centre of the beam is antiprotons or positrons, which can be kept in place with a magnetic field, an electric current is ran through the plasma surrounding the antimatter, a flow of charge can produce a magnetic field. Anti matter can wipe out a planet with the amount used in the deathstar beams, the plasma also protects the antimatter from hitting atmospheric gases as seen in rouge one in the last scene where tarkin tower is destroyed by the plasma and not the antimatter, the proton torpedo reacted with the antimatter blowing up the death star.

    The first Death Star on film seems to have overlooked the center beam aperture which I believe was the tunnel displayed on film. There should have been a beam coming from the center aperture that then combines with the 8 feeding it

    I always figured that the reason why the Second Death Star could fire more quickly was simply because they were firing at lower power setting. There are 1,440 minutes in an hour, or 480 three minute periods. One 480th of the 2x10^32 watts required to blow up a planet is still A LOT of firepower.

    I wondered how they found so many super large kyber crystals but they did say in Catalyst that the crystals were all the indestructible so it's possible that they survived the destruction of the Death Star and were gathered again for the second try.

    So what would happen if when shooting a planet they were 'off' and didn't get a direct hit? Say off to one side of the planet. Would the blast still be enough to outright destroy it, or blow half the planet apart but the rest stays?

    I got a question, do you think the shield over Endor and Death Star II had a shield gate?

  • @AtopLeap
    @AtopLeap 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    My theory is that there are 128 giant Kybur crystals. If you watched the incomplete Legacy episodes for The Clone Wars, you will see that the giant Kybur crystals, when being exposed to even a small amount of energy, will supercharge that same energy and redirect it back out in a massive blast. My theory is that a massive burst of energy from the main reactor strikes each of the first 64 crystals, which then fire an immensely powerful beam down their shafts towards the next 64 crystals, creating even more powerful beams. After that, the beams combine together into 8 separate beams (as we see in Force Unleashed, even though it is not canon any more), which fire out around the dish before merging into a single beam. We also know from the Legacy episodes that being hit simply by a few Dwarf Spider droids for about a minute is enough to make the Kybur crystals generate enough power to destroy a starship of just about any size. So imagine how much damage they could do when firing at each other to focus their power even more, after being hit from energy from a city-sized reactor core.

    When I saw Star Wars in 1977 and the DS blew up Alderaan, I wondered what kind of primary weapon this behemoth station had. As the years and more installments passed, I heard it referred to as a Super Laser. I was working on my BS in Physics at that time and my first thought was if that weapon was a laser, then even with a bajillion joules/sec output, all it would accomplish would be to burn a beam sized hole in one side and out the other. No huge kaboom an instant after touching the planet. Fast forward to the recent day when I saw Rouge One. Both Jedha and Scarif shots resulted in what I imagine a 100 megaton thermonuclear blast would look like. I thought about what looked like a confinement field around the central beam as it passed by the pair of gunner's mates on the platform adjacent to the tunnel where the beam was shooting through. It kind of reminded me of the confinement field on a Tokamak fusion reactor. It occurred to me a "what if." What if the electromagnetic properties of the laser, as generated and amplified by the crystals was tweaked to form a sort of confinement field for a plasma made up of positrons and anti-protons? The fired beam certainly wasn't a laser as its motion through space can be tracked by the naked eye. However a dense beam of an antimatter plasma directed by and protected from contact with matter until striking the target is plausible. One of the reasons, thankfully, there isn't such a weapon in our reality is because human science has not overcome the considerable engineering hurdles to create one. My hypothesis is just based on what we know is possible. Still, what was seen in any SW movie could be explained by this postulation of mine where the SL is concerned.

    • @majorearl12
      @majorearl12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      BelaM27X11 Episode III's beginning had something along those lines, personally i think the different Admirals/Captains use the planets to position their ships in a "normal" way also the hyperspace lanes are made in that way.

    • @BelaM27X11
      @BelaM27X11 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      but let's imagine one ship starting from above the north pole and one from above the south pole of the same planet and going through hyperspace to the same location, shouldn't one be 180° rotated? I mean I don't think hyperspace turns the ships while traveling.

    It's freaking plasma! Light wouldn't combine like that unless they were using hard light. They'd have to slow and redirect the photons which is a concept barely being explored now in the future. A long, long time ahead of Star Wars.

    The problem I have with the Death Star being powered by Kyber crystals, is that it has been explain in SWR and other canon/legends stories that only force wielders (Jedi/Sith) can even FIND the kyber crystals. So how did the Empire amass such a stockpile of them? I doubt the Emperor or Vader grabbed a pick and mined them themselves.

    I always believed that the reason the superlaser on the Death Star II had such a short refresh rate is because it was not firing at full power. After all, it does not take that much to take out a capital ship, even a single shot.
    True Palpatine said to Luke, ". . . Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station."
    I think that was a boast, to an extent. I think, since Palpatine knew of the imminent attack, he wanted a show of power.

    I am wondering can anyone answer this? Why do Sith need to make their
    crystals bleed anyway? Is it really just a rite of passage? It's not
    like it will prevent light side users from using it, doesn't make the
    lightsaber more durable or cut through more stuff. It just seems to act
    like a regular lightsaber? I liked it back before because you used to
    see Jedi with red lightsabers and Sith with non red lightsabers. I am
    also confused. If kyber crystals are colorless, how did the Death Star
    use a green laser? Wouldn't it be a clear laser unless it's attuned with
    the force? Anyone now?

  • @townstar1

    The power comes not from the crystals or the big generator inside. There come from the junkyard and the waste incineration plant and of course from the canteen. Beans and cabbage soup gives the power.

    If I remember it correctly they where on the hunt for giant Kyber christals in Rouge One so I bet its safe to say that in cannon the DS is powered by those now. Johan.

    Star wars has always been more science fantasy than science fiction

      I still prefer them at least putting in marginal effort to make it believable.
      Nobody expected a PHD dissertation, it just shouldn't have massive plot holes or unintentional unhealthy parallels.

    Rogue One came out, and it showed that Kyber Crystals were needed as fuel as they took it from the city in which I don't know what the name is

    "so I asked them about putting something in there like a railing, the response was they're worried about us leaning all day"
    Well I guess if they had to set up 128 railings, yeah I guess I could see them thinking that it would just be easier to replace a Red shirt that just got instant space cancer!

    How come the laserbeam is green now that it is confirmed that all kyber crystals are colorless until attuned with someone who is force sensitive? And if it was done by Darth Vader or The Emperor, wouldn't the alignment have made it red?

    I want to know how the beam is green if the color of the kyber crystal is determined by the force user that wields it. According to cannon if a dark side user wields one of the crystals it gets corrupted and turns red. Is the Death Star a good guy and just misunderstood? 😱 spin of movie alert 🚨
