"Leaving a hole is as important as filling it" Ringo. This should be taped and played 24/7 - even while sleeping - to the majority of drummers. That is precisely why Ringo is so different and so much better that most.
That's why people who don't know music don't think he's a good drummer. Like all the Beatles, Ringo was the consummate musician. That doesn't mean being wildly technical or flashy. It means that the music always comes first. ALL the Beatles always played to the song and they were always driven to play together to the point that none of them stood out. The song stood out, not the individuals.
Ringo is/was a song drummer and an inspiration to me and my playing, especially in recent years. Sometimes less is more. Knowing when NOT to fill is just as important. Playing appropriately for the song. This is the most important thing I've learned as a drummer.
Jim Keltner is amazing to watch. Just something about the way he moves. This Concert for George, Bob Dylan Anniversary, Concert for the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame, Neil Young live at Red Rocks - I never get tired of watching him play the drums.
That was the last time I saw Ringo playing drums like it was 1970. He played as good as he did in the concert for Bangladesh. What a great drummer he was in his youth
"He is so fluid. The rhythm runs down the canvas." Ray Cooper "It is that sloppy, falling down the stairs kind of sound, it is the coolest thing." Abe Laboriel, Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. Different words, same meaning.
Ringo, like Levon Helm, understood that drummers play to the song, not for themselves or to show technical chops. He played drums like Stevie Wonder, not look at me drummers like Neal Pert or Ginger Bake or Buddy Rich. I love Bonham and Peace and Gadd, and Purdee, but Ringo created over 300 Beats that supported his band mates. It’s like comparing a shredder to B.B King. I’ll take BB
Jim Keltner is my all time favourite drummer (apart from Ringo and Ginger Baker) Jim is a melodic player, his drumming is emotional and has a depth that no other drummer...his work with Ry Cooder and John Hiatt is so beautiful..just amazing..
The Concert for George is one of the finest musical performances ever caught on film. Any time that I need to calm my grandchildren (ages 2 & 3) I sit them on my lap in the rocking recliner and we watch Give Me Love, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, My Sweet Lord, Handle With Care, Something and Here Comes the Sun. They are true Beatlemaniacs and don’t even know it yet.
Whoa….I never knew what Jim Keltner looked like without sunglasses. It’s almost like being a kid and seeing KISS without their makeup for the first time.
I'll admit to my lack of sophistication, but I've never seen the benefit of more than one drummer (and a percussionist) at a time. I'm quite sure there is both an art and science to it, but it's redundant to me. I thought the same thing while watching the Allman Bros or Doobie Bros back in the '70's. Both Ringo and Jim are legendary for similar and yet very different reasons. Love'em both. Respect the playing of each.
2 drummers playing together is a unique experience. I've done that myself. Basically both keep rhythm, but one does most of the 'heavy lifting' with the fills, depending on the respective skill levels of the drummers involved.
A alguien le gustan los héroes de cómic, k simplemente con su gallardía se convierten en esos personajes no necesitando ni disfraz... Luceros bien, k nos da gusto, yeah!
THANKS for mentioning it because I was about to. I can't stand him. He's got Jim Keltner and motherf*cking Ringo on both sides but he still wants to be the loudest and the one people look at. What an egocentric jerk.
I think he was there as he was part of Erics band at the time along with Chris Stainton who was at the back of beyond with no solo time at all, but Erics musical direction was fantastic.
I'm guessing it's Henry Spinetti as the third drummer here. Two percussionists and three drummers on this track. You gotta love it. Other drummers also performed at Concert For George including Jim Capaldi, Phil Capaldi and Steve Ferrone.
When you play sloshy and haven't made a lot of money you suck, but if you play sloshy and make billions of dollars with it someone will describe your playing as "like water colors that run down the page" haha
At first I thought down-voting was appropriate. I was wrong. You want to know what Bonham would've done? Check out his playing with Rockestra... That's the most similar to this situation, and shows that (the excellent!) JHB would have played for the song, just as these guys did. Bonham was fluid and masterful in his way. He would not have come into this concert and played all his licks. The main difference between Bonham and these guys, is Bonham locked into Page much more than Plant. Not better, not worse, just a different approach. Bonham is probably my favorite drummer of all time. Keltner is a monster. And Ringo gets better with every year I get older.
Apples and oranges. Bonham was his own instrument, and very good at holding down his individual corner of a very powerful trio. Every instrument in Zeppelin was front and center (equal) with the vocal, unlike The Beatles music. Ringo played WITH the others (mainly with the bass) to make an extremely subtle, but total, blend of backing instruments which fit behind the vocals. Anyway, Bill Bruford makes them all look like beginners.

Nick Mason is another drummer who has proven that method.

Totally, watch him with Neil Youn at Red Rocks, 'words' is brilliant.
Something in the way he moves attracts me like no other drummer...
Well stated !

The side shots during WahWah are a trip.
Ringo was exceptionally exquisite on this concert as a tribute to George!🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️
Why doesn't have this video a million clicks? So great: Jim Keltner and Ringo! Sooo great! Thank you!
And Ray Cooper, too!!!
Because youtubers are ignorant

He wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles!
u heard of John Bonham aiii?

If it wasn't for Ringo, you would've never heard of John Bonham.
@@GeoZeppelin1979 - Bonham is famous but as drummers go, he couldn't carry Carl Palmer's sticks. Then, again, nobody can.

oh god. it's just a matter of taste. all the drummers you mentioned were great and made great contributions.
All the drummers are so frucking tight! Ringo is such an underrated drummer!!!
What utter garbage! Ringo isn't underrated in the slightest! He is universally admired and appreciated.
Truly gifted musicians I, god bless them all

haha thats so funny to hear. so there is actually hope for future generations =) this concert has to be passed on so that we dont forget it
You have to love Ray Cooper. He was such a funny and great Guy:)
I loved watching the drums on that Song WaWa!
I get rhymn, lead, bass, etc., but multiple DRUM players WOW how do they do that? Magnificent ✌✌
The percussion line-up for 'Wah Wah' was incredible: Ringo, Jim Keltner, Ray Cooper, Jim Capaldi and Henry Spinetti (anyone I've forgotten?)

Love Ringo so much.
George and Ringo were great friends and it's great that drummers can talk about drumming with Ringo.
Love these guys. And Ray Cooper, legend!

Both Ringo and Jim playing to the singer

Love Ringo’s cool factor. Once a Beatle always a Beatle.
Thanks for sharing this. I love it!
Jim Keltner was in Ringo's first all star band in 1989
Jim Keltner, one of the best
Love you guys !!!!
Very enjoyable video, Ringo just being Ringo.
Peace and Love.🥁
And what a show it was!
Henry Spinneti was the concert drummer, a damn fine one too, pure class
Well, along with Jim Keltner ... and RIngo Starr ... and Jim Capaldi for a bit.
Great to see this.
Ringo more than just a drummer. One quarter of the best band ever.
Cool. Ringo & Jim Keltner. ♥️🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I could watch those drummers all day. Camera should've just focused on drummers!

Um vídeo lindo. E ainda nos mostra de quebra o que acredito serem as últimas imagens em um show do Jim Capaldi e Michael Kamen.

Wow this is the first time I've ever seen Jim Keltner's eyes. No shades?!
A video about drummers with no drums in the audio. Brilliant.
where was Henry Spinneti in this video? he was a killer in this concert.
Michael Kamen. Somehow missed that he was involved in this.
Ringo es un tipaso
Keltner's greatest performance? Playing the judge in George Harrison's video, This Song. You know the one. Ronnie Woods is in drag.
4 Baterista no concerto?? acho que houve um certo exagero, mas assisti e vi que ficou super legal.

Large orchestras have several percussionists. They all play different things, which adds to the fullness of sound.

It’s how we learned in band. I started as 3rd chair and ended up 1st after a few years. We played a few pieces that required 3 drummers.
That was the dude that played with Eric Clapton on the MTV'S unplugged show.
I get Al Pacino vibes from Jim Keltner here.
Why they cut the full concert from you tube??? I can't find it any more!!!!!
It's also against the honor to George!!! He wouldn't like it for sure!!! This GREAT tribute belongs to the world who loved him so much!!!
Because it's probably still for sale (the DVD) and the proceeds went to George's charity
