    You'll probably get the reference at the end of the video.

    The "Polar Express" could be filmed in live action there. Really atmospheric with the snow falling. Great video.

    I agree that street running has some historical value and nostalgia, because it marks an era that is rapidly disappearing across the country. However, the primary customer of the South Shore Line are commuters traveling too and from work in the Chicago area. In the evening most commuters just want to get home as quickly as possible, and spend time with their family. The truth is this upgrade in the speed of the South Shore Line is badly needed for commuters who want to get home quicker.

      Indeed; if interurbans and other passenger rail are to survive, they must stay competitive

      Though no location would be more suitable for rail service than through the middle of town. If the station is out on the other side of Timbuktu, I’d hardly be inclined to walk all the way into town. But service straight through town would be almost door to door service.

      They’ll also have far more trains since it’s double tracked. I also think there are platforms.

      In some places, governments can deem certain places as 'historic' and it gets left alone. Problem I see here is the government could do that with the tracks, but still could not force the railroad to keep trains street-running.

      a straight up street running train is stupid. americans cant drive properly, never will be able to. at the very least light rail/streetcars can be molded and adapted in high-traffic and congested environments. commuter rail at the very least needs to be completely grade separated

      No, it's just another track will be added so there will be no street there anymore, it'll just be double track instead

    I'm surprised they don't keep the street running trains running until the bypass is finished

    • @MIkeCoffey5117
      @MIkeCoffey5117 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It's not really a bypass. They're removing half the street and putting a second track in, while closing several crossings along the way. If they kept running trains through while all this was going on, they'd effectively lose every weekday morning and evening. By using the busses, they'll be able to get the work done a lot faster.

      @culcune ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheCSSrailfan Thank you for clarifying...at first I thought it was an Amtrak train, but then after watching a few pass by realized these are definitely commuter trains. The proximity to Chicago made me think that was most likely where they were going, but just wanted to confirm.

    I don’t understand not a heck different than the crappy Gov.Ventura train in MPLS. &St. Paul.
    I wanted a monorail elevated Metro system, But no at the time they had to tear up all the streets and redo much infrastructure.

  • @tonyboloni64

    So basically they are turning single track street running into a double track line by eliminating the street?

      You can search up South Shore Line posters on google. The South Shore Line has a series of posters about anything the south Shore serves. At the end of a message at the bottom of the picture it says "Just Around the Corner, Along the South Shore Line" Also I'm reading articles on Trains Magazine and they're building double tracks for more efficiency. Buildings, including the original 11th Street station, was torn down on the side of the road where the tracks will be located.

    • @WesternOhioInterurbanHistory
      @WesternOhioInterurbanHistory 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The South Shore Line is being removed for the purpose of making trains run slightly faster.
      Basically, it's not nesscessary, destroying history, and a waste of taxpayer money.
