The Halloween Costume Contest Hello, my name is Max, and Halloween is my favorite time of the year. Every October, my friends and I get excited about costumes, decorations, and especially, the big Halloween costume contest in our town. This year, I was determined to win. The prize was a gift card for a popular game store, and I wanted it so badly! I decided to make my costume from scratch. I wanted something unique that would surprise everyone. After thinking for days, I chose to go as a haunted scarecrow. I thought it was a great idea because scarecrows are both spooky and interesting, which is perfect for Halloween. For my costume, I used some old clothes that I found in our attic. I wore a flannel shirt and ripped jeans, and I stuffed hay inside my sleeves and pants to make myself look like a real scarecrow. I also made a mask with a creepy face and a big straw hat. Finally, I painted my face with black lines to make it look like stitches. The night of the contest, my friends and I met up to go to the town square where the event was held. My friend Jake dressed up as a vampire, and my friend Lily went as a witch. Everyone looked amazing, and the entire square was decorated with pumpkins, spider webs, and orange lights. There was a big stage for the contest, and people from all over town were gathered to watch. When the contest started, everyone went up on the stage one by one to show off their costumes. There were so many creative ideas. Some people dressed up as monsters, ghosts, and even movie characters. I started feeling a bit nervous because some costumes looked incredible. But my friends cheered me on and told me that my haunted scarecrow costume was very unique. Finally, it was my turn. I walked onto the stage, trying to stay in character as a creepy scarecrow. I moved slowly, like I was guarding a field, and tilted my head to the side in a spooky way. The audience clapped, and some people looked genuinely scared. I could tell that my costume made a big impression. After everyone finished showing their costumes, the judges went up to the stage to announce the winners. My heart was beating so fast, and I was hoping I would at least win a small prize. They announced the third place, then the second place, but my name wasn’t called. I started to lose hope. Then, the judge said, “And the first place goes to… Max, the haunted scarecrow!” I couldn’t believe it! I had won the contest! My friends cheered, and I went up to receive my prize. The judge shook my hand and gave me the gift card. I was so happy and proud. That night, we all celebrated at Jake’s house. We had Halloween treats like candy apples, pumpkin pie, and popcorn. Winning the contest was amazing, but spending time with my friends and seeing everyone’s creativity was the best part of the night.
