Love this one - both the original studio and this live performance. Thanks for giving your thoughts on this seemingly less popular Nightwish track.🇬🇧🤘🤘
First, shout out to Homegnone (a reference you maybe havent picked up, Wave). Second, this was 30 Sep 2018 not 2019. Troy was pkaying the Irish Low Whistle in Dflat. A whistle is pkayed by blowing into it. A flute is entirely different as is pkayed by holding transversely and blowing across the opening Here are some notes on Troy: Troy plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone Troy on the Pipes (please learn the setlist): "You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy." TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes. EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too. TUOMAS on touring with Troy: We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on slage,
This is one of Tuomas's lesser known masterpieces from the early days of Nightwish, which they revived for the Decades World tour (hence Floor's reference to time travelling). Thanks for reacting to it, a long time favourite for me. I just wish they had also brought back Beauty of the Beast (not Beauty and the Beast, different song). I'd love to hear Floor perform it. There is one live version on YT with Tarja in Amsterdam, c2002. Unfortunately it's in glorious 240P with the poor video quality of that era, although the audio is reasonable, and Tarja's performance is mesmerising.
I'm so glad you love it! Gethsemane is probably my favorite song 😀 Next to Elan, Ghost River, and Alpenglow, for some reason - even though Alpenglow is just a poppy metal song that is nowhere near as cool as Storytime. I mean Storytime with Jukka on the drums from Wacken is probably the best pop metal song ever, but I still prefer Alpenglow for some weird reason. But SPECIFICALLY "NIGHTWISH - Alpenglow (LIVE IN MEXICO CITY)", and NOT the other live versions available. But of course I love I Want my Tears Back, Shoemaker (music video version, not the bad live recordings), and Yours is an Empty Hope. I mean Poet and Devil are just obligatory anyway. Everyone knows they're excellent, no need to mention those 😀
Hello again, Wave Potter. This song is so good... and one of the lesser known performances from this Buenos Aires 2019 release of this 2018 concert. Beautiful and surprising from start to finish. Thank you for this. I really enjoyed your reaction.
Troy is using a traditional instrument called a low whistle. Tarja sang this one very operatic. I love how Floor used some operatic technique, but combined it with more tradition belting and singing with emotional textures. Emppu gets a little spotlight on this one as well. Not too much but a little more time to develop a full solo.
Buenos Aires 2018 where Floor breathed new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band and pre-date my discovery of Nightwish and Floor. Phenomenal 🙏😊👍❤️
This song was definitely one of the big songs that formed their breakthrough in 1998-2000. This song exudes the spirit of the Finnish and European metal scene of that time (Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, Yngwie, Helloween..) incredible well - neo-classical, baroque feel, keyboard-guitar duels.
I just love this song, that's clearly not reacted to enough. It reminds me of her glorious early After Forever days. She doesn't use her voice like that in many NW songs. It's a trip down nostalgia road for everybody who knows her early work.

That wasn't a flute - that was a low (tin) whistle. Just one of a multitude of instruments Troy plays.

Home Gnome origin story coming next month...
@@homegnome2429 Looking forward to that: although Tuomas' doesn't understand how it can be sung without laughing, I love it.
I want the intro as my alarm. Im classically trained pianist so it sounds very classical to me and i love it so much.
This performance is EPIC!!!! The whole band is on point!!! I love some of the distortion sounds Floor brings!!!

Thank you Wave Potter!
And thank you Home Gnome!
🇬🇧 Norfolk strapped in for crazy keys and a great song
My favourite line without you the poetry within me is dead
Thought you might enjoy a more intricate one after the last couple of heavier tracks from NW. Definitely a baroque feel I think.
Please more Buenos Aires, or Hellfest or Deichbrand. 🤘
Das Argentinien Konzert ist absolut geil! Ich bin immer richtig neidisch! Ich wäre gern dabei gewesen! Liebe Grüße aus Ahrensburg
More from BA coming very soon, and next month also :)
