    Why can't we use alternating series test for question a)? Is it because (x-1)^n is not always positive?

      The question is about the radius of convergence, not interval, so we don’t have to test the endpoints. The alternating series test would be used to potentially test whether this series converge or diverge is at the endpoints. I hope this helps!

    in question b, why do you start from n=1 instead of n=0?

      Hi! The summation given in the original problem starts at n =1 so I just took it from there. Hope this helps!
