So many familiar faces from my village. Life was so much simpler back then growing up on the island. Thanks for the upload

Thank you KP. I really enjoyed my stay there way back in 1989. I still have many fond memories of Rotuma. Maybe one day I might have the opportunity to visit again, that would be so much fun...... Bye now 😊

Thanks for the video! Really enjoyed watching my grandfather Taito, aunts and uncles. My grandfather watched this video and he was reminded of his days back at home❤️

Roly - this is fascinating. I have been to Hawaii a number of times and the ladies dancing is very similar to the indigenous Hawaiians - the lesson must be that we learn from our ancestors through many years of oral and demonstrative education as they are thousands of miles apart! Thanks as usual for sharing.

Hi Tom, the dance "style" is quite common throughout all of the Pacific really.
There are small differences but the basic "style" is very similar.
.........Late afternoon under the shade of the coconut trees listening to the tide lapping in and out with this music drifting away in the background.....beer/wine in hand........couldn't be better 🍺

You are very welcome Gina. Perhaps i should put all the footage up on TH-cam, there are probably a lot more people you would recognise.
Ask your friends to subscribe and press the little bell, that way you will get to know when i put more videos up for Rotuma.
      Cheers......

My wife and I enjoyed this film very much. Do you know if the dance of the young girls told a story? We liked the moves of the older gent in the blue shirt. We saw him during the day and in the evening festivities. Leslie asks if he was doing a hoka? She showed a video of your rugby teams doing this dance before a game. Great party, thanks for sharing.

The Maori Haka from New Zealand is more of a war dance and/or welcome dance. This dance does tell a story and i am going to ask my Rotuman friends living here in NZ to tell me some time and i will let you know ....
In my first video Rotuma Part 1 you will se a man climbing a tree to put our antennas up. He is the same man dancing in this video and also the village Priest .... cheers

Roly, where did they get the guitars and ukeleles? Are they imported there? Very nice video.

Hi Don, Rotuma Island is administered by Fiji and much of their goods come from there. Cheers
