If this movie was the only thing David Lynch had ever worked on, it very nearly might be enough. He managed so many beautiful aspects of the human experience... Just this sound track alone is deep as the ocean and wide as the sky.... The cinematic feel he found is inside our hearts if we let it in....
I love seeing that there are many people that "get" this movie!
Once, many years ago... while walking in the fall-cold late night air in Portland, Oregon, I heard some of this music come and go in the shifting air. I walked on and on toward the faint sections of sound.... there in the distance as I rounded a corner onto a street thick lined with Douglas Firs I found glimmering a movie screen far down the block. I stopped cold! I walked on, closer… I could hear the soundtrack played from an old, loud, stereo glowing dull amber. There… 50 or 60 people huddled together in front of a large makeshift projection screen filled with the dancing light of pastures of green and gold and a lawnmower.
What a sight, and rush of emotions as I saw …
I took friends to see this film in the theater when it was released. And then, much later in my life, much later on this walk, there in the cold night air - "The Straight Story" - again.
I am so happy to know that movies like this can get made (amidst the crush of what is "popular"). I love that David Lynch doesn't pull back from his dreams and vision when he's creating.
I had an older gentleman friend of mine that I had recommended see this film say about this movie-"It was so slow…. Like watching grass grow." I said-Yes… and what a beautiful sight, watching that particular grass grow.

THE STRAIGHT STORY is honestly the very first David Lynch movie I ever saw, and I get why some call it a "Very slow/dull" film, but it's just a beautifully done film (it's also my favorite Sissy Spacek performance and Richard Farnsworth is a true pro at being gentle but powerfully theatrical) and Angelo's score just "Lifts me up" every time I remember it.

Grande opera d'arte.

This is a great movie!! Loved Farnsworth in it + Harry Dean Stanton near the end as his brother. RIP.

The very first time I had ever heard Angelo's music, I knew he was something very, very special! As time passes, he continues to unfold his newest lawyers of genius, like some magnificent bird slowly opening it's wings. This is some of the most beautiful, and at times painful music. Yet "Who will take your dreams away" and "Fire Walk With Me" where it starts like a 50's song and then morphs, can be downright terrifying! "Idea Man".

@@noradosmith I was wondering if that was really just the actress that had a disorder or if she was really just acting. So she is just acting? That’s incredible!

Fantastic film. Just recently I was watching a handful of David Lynch films because Twin Peaks is coming soon, and while I love his mature take on the awkward, ambiguous stories in his films, this being his most straightforward one, it was actually my favorite of his to my surprise. Also, Laurens Walking and a few other songs sound very western and make me think of Red Dead Redemption. I'd love to hear Angelo Badalamenti do a western (and heck, a video game!)
Edit - Oh wow, I was just reading up on him; I didn't know he helped compose Indigo Prophecy.

Check out “Claudia's Theme” from the movie Unforgiven, it sounds very similar to some cues in this soundtrack

    *Family*
Alvin: I'd give each one of 'em a stick and, one for each one of 'em, then I'd say, 'You break that.' Course they could real easy.
Then I'd say, 'Tie them sticks in a bundle and try to break that.' Course they couldn't...
Then I'd say, "That bundle... that's family."

Pokazuje prostotę, a równocześnie mądrość głównego bohatera i dobroć przypadkowo napotkanych ludzi.
Wszelkiego rodzaju tudności napotkane w życiu nabierają sensu.
Muzyka jest bardzo wzruszająca, uwielbiam jej słuchać.
Thank You for this, im in love with this soundtrack ❤

The day before trying LSD for the first time a friend told me to relax as much as I could. I remember lying in the couch, playing this and staring at the slow, pink clouds of that summer afternoon. The next day was one of the most beautiful days I've ever lived.
