    This feature came in handy at NFL games in the 70’s and 80’s, several frames in secession. A Professional Sports photographer tool, you have to be from the 20th Century to remember the use. Being old helps.

      I'm old too! And despite all the technology we have now, it was better 40 years ago in many respects. I took out my A1 with its winder last week to take a few shots and to wallow in nostalgia! Thanks for sharing your memories 😊

    I recently bought a Canon AE-1 Program and almost bought a Canon Winder A. Glad I found this video as I bought an A2 winder afterwards and it's excellent. Superb build quality and makes camera nicer to hold. Only downside is with the batteries in it makes the camera substantially heavier.

      I've never seen the previous version, but by all accounts, the Power Winder A2 is better. It does add some weight, but with a long lens, it might help to improve the balance. Admittedly, that old film gear is heavy. My backpack back in the film days weighed a ton. The EOS M system that I mostly tend to use these days is like a feather in comparison! That was the main reason I switched from DSLR. I'm getting too old now to lug heavy equipment around!

      @@PhilUKNet I have a Canon EOS M100 but I don't use it as often as I should. I wish I had taken it to the Pet Shop Boys concert I went to a few weeks ago. None of the pics I took on my phone came out.

      @Distorted-Vision The Pet Shop Boys are still going?! They were around when I was young, and I'm now old! Shame you lost your photos. Phones have tiny sensors, and I guess it was low light.

      @@PhilUKNet I'm a big Pet Shop Boys fan for more than 35 years. They are still going strong and are in the middle of their greatest hits world tour, Dreamworld. At 45 I'm old too. Yeah it was low light but also I was far back from the stage. Did get amazing photos of Chvrches with my phone a few years ago but I was stood right in front of the stage. Anyone I'm wondering why Canon discontinued the Canon EOS M range.

      @Distorted-Vision I haven't heard an official announcement, but with no new bodies or lenses for so long, EOS M definitely looks to be continued. I guess having all their development resources working on just the R line is more efficient. I've been an M user since 2013, and I'm quite disappointed. Canon seemed to think they could placate M users by introducing a few APS-C R bodies, but I love M for the small form factor. Some of the R bodies are quite small, but the lenses are still big. Oh well, I guess I will move to R eventually.

    a hugely useful feature would be if the winder batteries were sufficient to operate the camera and the 4sr44 could be omitted. is that the case?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, not! It's not like a DSLR battery grip, where you can clip something on the bottom to get more battery power for your camera. The camera and winder power circuits are completely separate. The good news is that the little button battery in the camera lasts for years. Canon recommends changing it once a year, but mine have lasted for several years between replacements.

      @@PhilUKNet right, but 4sr44 are rather expensive and some A-1 seem to develop an increased bias current, forgetting to turn it off can drain them in weeks, sometimes days

    I was wondering what that accessories list is from at 03:35. It's not the pdf manual I have.

      The physical A1 user manual has quite a lot of information. I have user manuals in PDF form, but they aren't as comprehensive.

    Hi , I have lost the rewind crank.
    Will the power winder pull the film back ready for deployment at the end of the exposures ?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately, not. When the film reaches the end, a red LED illuminates on the power winder to indicate this. You then have to push in the button on the bottom of the winder, which presses in the button on the bottom of the camera, and then you can do a manual rewind.

      @user-Stamatame... Sorry it wasn't the answer you wanted. My T90 automatically loads, advances, and reminds the film. The A1 era technology wasn't quite as advanced! I bought my second winder on eBay from Japan. The condition was excellent, and the price reasonable, but the Thai government stung me for quite a lot of import duty when it arrived!

    is it mainly plastic or also metal like the camera body?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A combination of both, but very sturdy and durable.

    Hello! Does this fit the Canon f1 original?

      I've never owned an F-1, but looking at the Winder A2 user manual it seems that it *can't* be used with an F-1.
      It is designed for use with Canon A-series SLR cameras: A-1, AE-1 Program, AL-1, AE-1, AV-1 and AT-1. Sorry!
