I bought the van true R 2, today, set it up, and played with it. I think it's a very nice camera, it really feels well built, and everything worked just fine on it, right out of the box. The suction cup that fits to the camera, is a real nice touch. Thanks for showing it to us. I like it.

Nice vid bro. You put a lot of detail into it. You might want to consider looking into the Lukas dash cams. I had a China made one an Eprance. It failed me when I actually had a little fender bender. After that I did a lot of research and found Lukas to be a very good choice for a dependable dash cam. And it's made in Korea. I now have the Lukas 7950 dual dvr and it works great in my 3/4 ton diesel.

is the only Still picture option the narrow and tall pictures. (look distorted.)
It would be nice if the still (snap) pictures were as wide (same size) as the action video.
Or is the only option to video then clip a wide picture?
I read you can take snap shots while video is running in the 1920x1080P@30fps (I wIll check this out.)

Great vid, I own a R2 but my only problem is when i used for parking mode. Since it comes with a 500mah built in battery, I bought a 10,000 mah battery so when is in parking mode it has enough battery power but when it sense movement it records for 10 seconds after that it shuts off then starts recording again when there's no movement at all, there's vids from 2 minutes up to 5 minutes. Any idea why it records when its not supposed to. thanks

Great video Brian! I just ordered $750 worth of these dashcams and memory cards using your Amazon link for everyone on my Christmas list. I hope that helps you and thank you for helping me decide what to get for everyone. On a side note I have a real crap tacular dash cam with poor resolution, poor to no sound and feature software written by monkeys. Almost useless but it films front and back at the same time with two cameras so that is handy, plus I can pivot the cameras if I get pulled over so that one camera will film me an the officer.

I run a predecessor model to this camera, I've been using it constantly since Christmas 2013. Everything appears to be the same - screen display, button placement/function, tones - everything except the styling of the camera itself, which looks to be a bit more slick. Feature-wise, it's virtually the exact same camera. HOWEVER, mine DOES has GPS built into the suction mount. And yes, battery life sucks. At this point I'm lucky to record a full minute before the battery drains and the camera shuts itself off.
The only true downside to mine was the manual. It only came in Russian and Chinese - no English - and despite my best efforts I was unable to find one online. I instead had to learn all the features of the camera by playing around with it, but that's not such a bad thing. Thankfully the menus in the camera are in English, though the default was Russian, so I had to look up the Russian words язык (Language) and английский (English)... thank you Google.
Thanks for the review, glad I stumbled into it at random today.

If anyone wonders, this camera accepts larger than 64GB cards, ive used my sandisk 128GB and 200GB for a while. the camera recognizes it and shows the accurate size. this is due to the SDXC format already being supported by the camera. so, im pretty sure the new 256GB cards will also work, if you want 36 hours of footage history at any given time haha (18 hours 128GB and 9 hours 64GB for 1080P HDR setting)

Tom Zweifel Most important feature? Not to most ppl! I don't care one bit about parking mode because my nicer car stays in the garage at home, and the extremely limited amount of time it is parked in public, any accident is automatically not my fault since IM PARKED! The most important feature is moving and night video quality so you can get plates of hit and runs. A close 2nd is being able to rotate 90 degrees to record police or idiots that come up to your window. Parking mode might be important to you, but its certainly not to MOST people.

The picture looks great but you didn't mention night time capability like you did in your last review of a Vantrue. I will be using this exclusively at night, can I expect the same or better level of night performance as the last Vantrue you reviewed?
I was debating if I wanted a unit with GPS but I'm now thinking that actual video and processor quality is more valuable to me. Supposedly this thing has a better than average processor (Ambarella A7 processor). I know nothing about these particular types of processors, can anyone comment?
I'm guessing that in my case eight truck (big rig) that I would be getting a lot of "events", even on the low shock setting. I was concerned about the .MOV format only. I haven't played around with video formats in a long time but cursory research indicates that VLC can convert MOV to other file types.

+kmg501 Saw a bunch on Zetronix dot com. Don't know anything about them or the products except what I saw there. Looked promising. Dash cams as well as surveillance I would be surprised if didn't find something of interest there. Hope this is helpful.

+kmg501 .MOV is quite Standard format for Car Dash-Cams... so they are following the majority there. They are MP4 files which are decent quality. Yes, VLC will play them fine on a PC.
