Correction: Turns out you could equip your other party members with clothing in the DS original, I just went my entire playthroughs without realizing it was possible! Whoops. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out 👏 - Zion

I just finished it last night and: Wow. Absolutely astonished. I had so many expectations going in after playing the first game multiple times and it managed to absolutely knock each and every one of them out of the park. This game is by far one of the best I’ve played the whole year.
11:11 You could equip clothes on the other characters in the original, too.
Came here to say this
Came here to call them out on that. Seems like whomever wrote this review has never played the DS TWEWY, thus being unaware you have to click on the character portrait while in the items menu, to change which character you're equipping.
@@VictorHernandez-cz1be I think it was Zion who wrote it from the description, it was probably just a mistake cuz I think he's played the original
Could this post be pinned so people can make sure to get the correct information?
Happy to see that this one does not disappoint at all! Stoked for it to come in!
Having Jesse McFadden all over the soundtrack was just a plus to me preloading this game. Can't wait for tomorrow.
This is worth it at full price, it even comes with a game!
Yeah and today's the day I already preordered mine yesterday at gamestop and it come a bonus magnet set yay. Now I have something to play while caring for my grandma she fractured her hip a for and already got surgery a couple of weeks ago. Man, I'm so happy to hear that this game lives up. I've waited way too damn long for this.
I worked with some kids in their 19-21s telling me how they remember games like OoT coming out or this games original….
@@ericb.7589 Sure. They were probably recalling the OoT 3DS remake.
And probably some don't even know it was originally on N64...
Glad to see NEO seems to be holding up to the original mechanically, from what I've seen from the demo it already seemed like it was being refined and modernized what the original gave us, and while it's a shame to see trends disappear it's probably for the best since it allows for more gear and pin variety where in the original it might've been better to stick to one brand. Dying to get this game in my hands tomorrow and seeing the full game in action, here's hoping it stacks up to be a favorite for a new generation as the first was to me
u know ur perspective on "trends" not being included in NEO changed my perspective on it as well, I was very sad and disappointed when it was not included but I still had fun with the game, I now appreciate it more now lel
Looking back I can see why trends were removed, to allow more variety for pins of varying brands without having to worry about losing out in damage since beat drops and groove were the name of the game, and while I enjoyed my time I still feel like some elements of the old games magic were missing with this one
Playing it was such a joy and in a way, a relief: My main question leading up to and while starting the game was if it would be a worthy successor to the arguable masterpiece that was the DS original. And I am so, so overjoyed to say that, yeah, I absolutely think it is
How did I not know about this?!?! I've been waiting for this sequel since I was a young teenager, and would gladly given $60 to play it on day 1. Downloading now, and CANNOT WAIT to binge the game.
I hear the calling loud and clear and it says this game is gonna be amazing!

the first original game help me recover bedridden because my clavicle was broken yet this Neo is also cool becasue it has the look and feel of bright old school like Jet Set Radio and Bust a Groove :)
My hype is through the ROOF. Can't wait to have this in my hands. Resisted the urge to get it digital because I want it to sit on the shelf next to its predecessor.
I want to see Jet Set Radio done like this it looks alot like the same style.
The focus on music and moving through the city is very familiar.
A new Jet Set on the Switch would be killer.
This games art style is awesome looking.

I miss those games sooo much. I'm honestly surprised they still haven't remade it

I’ve been waiting ages for a sequel to the OG TWEWY, so the fact that I’ll get to play one in only a day is nearly mind-boggling to me. Nonetheless, I 1000% can’t wait!✌🏽

Such an insane amount of love for the making this video.
Thank you dude. For real. Thanks.
Why did this game and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles have to come out in the same day.
My heart and soul is split.
RIP our wallets
Almost everything you said here exactly matches my thoughts. The anxiety before the release, the relief that they put out a worth successor that catches the first game so well while dropping the annoying things (shutdown and mingle PP, food limit per RL day), the surprise that Square Enix can still do it after so long.
There are only 2 points i disagree:
1) The equipping party members you already noticed and corrected in a comment
2) I'm not sure whether this is a disagreement, but personally i'm glad they brand ranking isn't back. It was really difficult/annyoing to control and reset every day, so it mostly was just random buffs or debuffs to some pins. And it lead to annoying missions from black and red reapers to get past walls.
I have been waiting all year for this…… I am going to scream when it arrives 😭
This was the game that i was looking for this month
I think it's crazy how Square Enix didn't even make the original game (It was developed by Jupiter). Square Enix didn't make any of the Dragon Quest games until XI either and somehow they knocked it out of the park for both games.
it’s getting harder and harder to wait, thanks for giving us some content while we do!!
love that the sequel to the obscure gem is really getting some attention
Got this preordered from Amazon. I adored the demo and REALLY hope my copy of the game turns up in a timely fashion!
I'm picking this up tomorrow for sure hands down no question about it 🎮📺
I’m trying the demo out rn. I love the look and the combat is pretty good too. I dislike the camera angles when roaming tho wish I could change that
I just got this game in the Nintendo Store in New York and once I went back home and spent 3 hours playing it I’m having tons of fun and I’m super addicted!!!! I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
I just finished the game a week ago and I also was scared that the game might fail and won't live up to it's predecessor but my worrying was for nothing, I wouldn't say it excelled with it's predecessor but I think NEO is unique enough that I just can't compare it to the original TWEWY, the cast was just as amazing as the original cast in TWEWY, the combat system was just as fun and rewarding as the original TWEWY, the story is also very unique to the original, taking a different take with the Reaper's game. overall this sequel is amazing, I wish Square would make more TWEWY games in the future
Now we wait for *"All Right Zion, Is NEO: The World Ends With You Really That Good?
"* video.
i will buy this because it will probably be one of those games that become rare and valuable lol
I played the first one and loved it when I was 18, I’m now 32 and just finding out about the sequel and am intimidated for some reason to give this one a shot. It’s been so long
I recently played NEO and it's a very faithful sequel to the original.
Really good so far and i've made it to the halfway point I think. Runs really good on the switch as well which was a surprise. Two gripes with the game so far only: some chapters drag on a tad bit too long having you running around the city multiple times, and the second being enemy variety, which I think borrows a bit too heavily on the first game, which is not bad in of itself but they could have come up with more new noise variations and have them mix it up more in between chapters.
The game never demands of you what the battle systems skill ceiling can provide but the low skill floor gives accessibility, unfortunately this can lead to button mashing than thinking through but it is nice for those who want to dive in and theorycraft. Maybe one encounter post game demands this, maybe.
Yeah, it's only really demanded through the harder modes. (Which really should be the way it should be played)
I can’t wait to play it tonight!
Oh we definitely streaming this tonight, literally half my life has passed waiting for this.
fun fact: RIndo's nickname that Fret uses for him in spanish its tamarindo (tamarind in english)
I finished the original The World Ends with You on my DSi (December 7th, 2024) and after a well earned cry, I'm up to jump into NEO The World Ends with You wanting to see how it compares to its predecessor. I'm not expecting it to be better or worse, though it seems like it's pretty amazing, but I'm expecting the story to resonate with me as much as the original did 🥺
Off to play I go!
I was aware of the originals existence but never played. This looks good and I think I’ll be picking it up as my first entry into the series.
I think you should play the first game first, since its a story driven game
Thats not recommended cos this game is a direct sequel to the first game so play that first or watch the anime
It's fine to play this as a standalone if you don't care to much about the story but if you do even a little it's highly recommend that you watch a playthrough or the anime or play the game for yourself.
It is worth it! I’m here as someone who has 65 hours in it and the game is amazing :)
It’s very worth it

today's the day I already preordered mine yesterday at gamestop and it come a bonus magnet set yay.
Absolutely terrific game, and great review! Much more detailed and informative than Gamespot and IGN's, ignoring the scores (although I agree with this score more, too)
I have this pre ordered! Can't wait for tomorrow!!!
Mine comes tomorrow, can't wait for it
Glad the game doesn’t disappoint, not that I thought it will considering the demo but I’m just reassured now.
Thank you Nintendolife.
Never played the first game, but I do like the way this game looks visually.
Though as I believe Yahtzee said about the first game many years ago, the kids look like they stepped on a landmine in a trendy clothes shop.
"The kids look like they stepped on a landmine in a trendy clothes shop" which is, to be honest, exactly how quite a lot of teenagers you see in those areas of Tokyo look like.
I've been playing it for a few days, and it's so wonderful!!
"Full of fresh beats and surprising treats," damn bro, you were spittin'.
One correction on your review (based on my time with the demo, I still have to wait for my copy to come in); in regards to the Special Attack you make after hitting 100% Groove. The special attack, yes is dependent on the equipped pins to some degree, but it's more determined on the ELEMENT of the pin attack that hits that 100% Groove, so it's easy to "choose" which type of special you want to unleash or make use of elemental weaknesses.
11:18 that's is false, neku and his partner can changes to any cloths, the problem is the BRV points, if a character does not have enough that character could not equip it until the BRV points were raise
Just bought it physically in a sale for just 15 euro including shipment. Seems a really good deal hen looking at this review ❤

That makes no sense
Some assholes already spoiled the game for some people! Don't be that guy! Some have waited a long time for this game! Anyway i cant wait to get my copy :D
We're you spoiled already?!
The teams really makes sense imo, since there’s a lot of players in the game.
I'm ready to immerse myself into the Galaxy Brain!
For $40 CAD Black Friday... I'm gonna grab it. Great video
I played the leaked 4chan version. Slight spoilers! So... I liked most of what I've played, but it was definitely not perfect. The chapter selection screen says I'm 75% in but I'm pretty sure this is the final boss I'm up against. I got stuck so I booted up TH-cam. Well, I feel that the worst thing about the game is that there are waaay too many characters, so we don't get as much time to spend with them as I'd liked. We get to talk about their feelings, but whereas in the original game that was the focus and the plot was second, here the roles feel reversed. I do like the characters that we got, I just wish we got more intimate conversations with them. I also don't like what they did with Neku. Because he does appear, that's all I'm going to spoil. What I didn't like is that when he first appears it's treated like the biggest deal ever but once he's there, he's just.. there. But we don't get to see him talk and banter and feel emotions like I expected him to. He, most of all characters, falls flat. That's not to say I didn't like the game. It's fun, it's solid, the plot twists were very twisty. The music was great, I really liked the social system they put in place. The city feels more alive than ever. I truly felt like I was playing the reapers game and solving the riddles. Again, I didn't like everything they did with the story but I wasn't indifferent at any point. I felt emotionally destroyed for the past week. I hurt my wrists really hard because I couldn't stop playing. I felt very sad and happy and frustrated. I was feeling all feelings at max intensity for this whole week. So yeah, it's worth it. My biggest criticism tldr would be that It lacks a distinct emotional, thematic core like the original. In Twewy, all aspects of the gameplay, the lore, mesh and feed off each other thematically. Like how there's two screens, trust your partner, all that stuff. There's a beauty there that was lost, in how the original was very thematically sound and focused. Overall, great game. It's just not as good as the original for me. To put it into perspective, I'd give this game an 8.5, right beside the Yakuza games and the Mother series. That's high. It's just... the original TWEWY is an 11. My favorite character was Fret, I wish he'd gotten more focus. Also Kaie, he's cool.

lives up to the hype neo is lit maybe more than the 14 year old version? i said it
Honestly, I only ran into 2 problems that had me reset the game 2 different times, but otherwise this Switch version is solid.
One thing was bothering me was whether or not Rindo has a mask and wasn't wearing it over his mouth or if he just had a weirdly shaded jaw lol
Is it required to play the first one to fully enjoy this one? I already know from the trailers that the protagonist of the first game appears so I would love to know.
Very much yes, this game is very much story driven at the very least watch the summery of the first games story or watch the anime
No you don't at all. But if you want too just play the Switch game or watch the anime.
No, you don't, even though there are some recurring characters, but they mostly appear in a different context. If you don't know them you'll think "i wonder what was up with them in the past they mention" and if you do know them you'll think "i wonder what happened to them in the meantime for them to do what they are doing now". Even though the mystery about them is different, nevertheless there is a mystery about them either way.
Meanwhile at IGN, story = meh. game is a okay 7/10. Thanks for the solid review Zion, so ZETTA FRESH well def buy it on the switch
This game gave me Tony Hawk Pro Skater vibes when I played the demo.

It does after you beat the game there’s an extra non canon chapter that you can explore freely and you can return back to each day you’ve beaten at any time. There’s also secret bosses in each level after you beat the game so there’s definitely a lot to do after you finish
