I hope you read this, concerning your grinding and health, way back when I had a homeboy that got a job in a sheetmetal shop. I was really jealous ( this was the 70’s) because I was working in a cave and pave shop as a sander / masker. I also was obsessed with Kustom cars even though they weren’t popular then. Ok my point is my friend was doing sheet metal. Time flue by and next time I saw hi he was pushing around an oxygen bottle using it to breathe. He told me that working in that shop and cutting and grinding without a mask made the metal particles ( dust), collect in his body. He struggled to breathe and walk he also passed away after a long losing battle. I love all your videos they are very helpful and informative and inspiring
Yeah, when you are young you don't worry about such things, hearing protection too so your wife doesn't have to shout at you later in life. Although that can come in handy to tune things out. 😊
What is really amazing is his hammer control. He hits where he is looking. Unlike most folks that try this. I know this for certain I just saw eight guys at his class including me that couldn't hit the same place twice on a bet.
A1 Quality Work Mate! I worked building Coaches for 5yrs back in the early 2000's - More Industrial less Boutique - You Sir are a Master Craftsman & Great Teacher - Cheers 👍🤍 🇦🇺
Don't rush by using compressed air to cool the tacks down, you're hardening the weld. let it aircool. It won't buckle any more, and the weld will be easier to rework
Stunning! A master class in welding and artistry! I am awed by your talent and vision/aesthetic! I would leave her in bare metal, clear coat and show off all that beautiful metal work/fabrication! Go Japhands, keep moving forward! Can't wait to see what's next!
I'd like to see that dash with a blued finish like high-end firearms have. But I think they would have to be dipped in some sort of hot chemical. It would look really cool though.
Watching this, I realized I have made more tools from watching your videos than any other youtuber! I think I counted 6 tools I've made after watching your videos! Great work as usual!
That’s pretty funny Larry! I’m gonna keep making tools that you can’t not build so that we can fill your shop to the point of no space for projects hahaha
@MakeItKustom can never have too many tools😎👍. While on the subject,do you have regular drawings with dimensions of your fabulous bead roller available at all?I'm looking at building one later this year. Love that dash,it's out of this world bud.
That is going to be "ONE" sweet ride. A lot of folks on You Tube fabricate automobiles. Some of their work looks like you handed a crayon to a 5th grader, but Carl's has real style and the workmanship is impeccable.
WA place names are cool but some have funny ways of pronouncing them. Mandurah is said "Man-Drah" We often waste or ignore some of the vowels. hahaha Cool coastal esturary spot. You might notice the temp difference to your home hahaha Happy travelling, keep smiling 🙂
Brilliant work young man. Such a shame we don't have the same "custom car" industry and following here in the UK. Boy racer type cars seem to have captured the mindset here.
Luv ur channel also like all the genuine ideals y’all come up with!!! After watching the many TH-cam channels, on sheet metal welding I’m trying to fab a tool to only use one hand while welding sheet metal! Trying to integrate the mig gun with the air nozzle. I know it’s a bit much!!! 😂 but I’m always having to chase dat dang thing after seeing it down to cool a weld off Oh well back to the drawing board.
Love it that you’re meticulous on clean up and thanks for the tips! You probably got one but I haven’t seen it yet on your channel, an 8” air belt sander really comes in handy!
Karl, excellent stuff - just a suggestion: maybe you should get some more break-line and contour it to match the mig wand attached with zip ties - then it would be an all-in-one "Mig-O-Matic blow-gun Mig handle unit thingy" - maybe with a separate air trigger near the mig trigger, no more fumbling - one-handed unit! - LOL Paten - pending!
Another great episode Karl. Looking sweet, and the brass touches look super cool. Loving it. Shame you are not coming to Melbourne when in Aus. But I hope you enjoy Perth and WA . Some lovely places like Cottesloe Beach- watching the sun set in the west with a nice drink and friends and a BBQ. Stay safe and try and get some sleep on the plane as it is a Long Long Long flight.
Awesome news Karl - looking forward to seeing you at the nationals in Mandurah! Have been watching your videos and learning a lot for a couple of years now. Legend!!
I’m half way through this video, where you are talking about grinding. Good golly miss Molly, that’s the trickiest and most time consuming part.,I’ve found. I love your advice finding a thick grinding wheel, that matches the profile needed. I’d go as far to say, it’s totally worth shaping said grinding wheel, prior to understanding grinding.😂😂😂 It’s always high stakes, essentially looking and the amazing work you’ve done thus far. I personally like how the air powered grinder can be slowed down, and how fast it stops. Saying that, I’ve never seen a thick grinding disk for a pneumatic grinder. It could be a good thing for this style of grinding. 💙🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼☮️☮️☮️🍀😎
Fantastic work Karl. Just like jewelry as others have said. I bet if you looked at your work 5 years ago you’d blow yourself away at your improved skills
I worked with an old timer for a while who had an IV bag rack that he set up close to himself when welding sheet metal. One side, he had his wand laid over and the other an air nozzle. It made it really easy for him to reach up without looking and grab his air to cool, and kept his mig wand out of the way from getting bound or twisted.
@@roberthollinshead2325 I'm sure it works great, but that would leave me paranoid that a slag bb would land on the hose and burn a hole. If you've ever had that happen, you know it will scare the shit out of you. I don't understand the science behind it, but I've seen two hoses, blow apart from that happening.
As always, a great video. Those cubitron discs are great, I used them for the first time when sharpening chisels. Excellent product. Surprised you didnt Tig this, but a great demonstration video still. Gotta find a spot to install those USB phone charger outlets still though ;)
Perfect job for a Dynafile or bandfile. I thought the Dynafile was a gift from God when I got one but the Milwaukee M12 version gives it some good competition. That and some 60g or 80g Cubitron and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Love your vids!
a second channel?! hell yes. lovin the progress on the ride. the brass accents with bead rolling look superb! your attention to detail is an inspiration.

custom cars weren't popular in 70s ?????
@@privateuse4681Yes they were.
Yeah watching him grind without any PPE is sketchy

Your metalwork/fabrication is as fine as can be…You work like a jeweler. Thanks for sharing. Love your work.
Thank you very much!
Karl, great job, congrats.

The proof is in the pudding. Try it
70% not subscribed!?!? Come on Fellas support this guy!!!
I came in from the garage to take a break from welding in my front dash as well... Been welding all morning I am tired, but I am glad to watch more.

Wow, thank you!
love the brass accent with that roller accent! It feels period correct! Such a pleasure watching you! Definitely a good time!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am going to steal that idea. He is all they way up there in Canada. Who will know?
ER70S2 wire is a game changer for this type of work. Flows good and it's as soft as the base metal. Grinds easier and hammers fine.
Every single one of these is breathtakingly beautiful and moving everywhere. your customers have the life of Riley getting to look at it every day
Glad to see progress on the 30. Beautiful work and design.
Karl that was whole lot of welding. And you’re the best I have seen on You Tube at metal fabrication. Love be the work!
Thank you for sharing.
💯👍👊
Thanks, Terry much appreciated!
That is sweet. Thanks for sharing your knowledge always appreciated my friend
very nice work :)
A die grinder with the point tip will get into that radius. Set your air pressure to about 25 psi at the hose. Hope this helps.
man that looks great, thanks for breaking down the grinding process, it helps to see every step.
Beautiful work, I really enjoy your videos.
You are a true craftsman! Brilliant work sir. Brilliant!
2 hours welding and 6-8 hours grinding and smoothing. A lot of work. Looks good.
I'd like to see that dash with a blued finish like high-end firearms have. But I think they would have to be dipped in some sort of hot chemical. It would look really cool though.
The dash looks super cool...the Brass is a top notch touch!
Love the brass insert.
Your work is amazing. I'm going to grab some sticky sandpaper roles and use your idea. Thank you and keep up the great work.

Great detail and dedication to making it what you wanted it to look like.

Great work, as always! Maybe one day you’ll do a class in the southern US. Scene is strong down here, lots of builders.
I was just watching your older mig videos and this popped up at the end of them. Holy timing batman!
Top job Karl , the customer is going to be well pleased with that buddy 😁😁🤘🤘

Your weld method is really similar to the one Ron Covell taught me back in the mid 90's and it works great at managing distortion.
Cool stuff man… thanks for the lessons!👍
Inspiring work as always! Thanks.

Love that brass detail. The whole dash came out phenominal!
