i spent a lot of my late teens and early twenties fishing and swimming in that river . just gotta pick the right spot . snakes , alligator snapping turtles , alligators . . . they generally avoided the noisy places where we swam . we also had a small john boat and we " disc " skied on the With. as well . kinda like wake boarding but on a round plywood disc . lots of fun
Disc boarding? Lol! Every kid in Florida had a jon boat and a couple of friends to spend the day with. We cut them out with a jigsaw, customized the edges, and painted them up like Big Daddy Roth.
We were kayaking a small creek and passed not 4 feet from baby gators on a nest. Thought they were cute until we heard a big splash. My hubby said, "Paddle, Hard!" We got out of there fast!
We were. We realized that a blow up kayak might not have been the smartest idea. But then again, if you don't bother Gatos, they usually don't bother you.
@@gowiththeflowcouple There is just something about those northern Florida rivers such as the Suwannee that are more appealing than the mid/southern rivers.
@@gowiththeflowcouple to be completely honest, as an adult, I’m terrified to go kayaking down the rivers. I usually paddle around hagens cove in steinhatchee. I think the dark water just makes me quiver. When I was younger though we would float down the river without anything but maybe a small floatie. And also My mom lives down river from Madison blue springs right on the river. But I lived in North Carolina just long enough to shake the Florida out of me.
My sister won't swim in the ocean. If she can't see the bottom, she's not going in. Watch our video about kayaking the Itchetucknee River. You'll enjoy it.

In some places, yes. If you look at high water levels, yes, it is low.
I prefer the northern Withlacoochee, the one that connects to the Suwannee

The only time you will have a problem is if you go near a nest of babies. Then you will most definitely have a major problem lol

We usually have seat cushions and use them as flotation devices. But, you are right. Life jackets would be better!

Tthis native Floridian will tell you they are there even if you cant see them. Enjoy the waters jusst be aware.

The music is pretty bad, but not as bad as that squeaky kayak. Would be great with tranquil music.
