Son Of A Preacher Man 🎤Lyrics:
Billy Ray was the preacher's son
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along
When they gathered 'round and started talkin'
That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
    Lord knows, to my surprise
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes, he was, he was, ooh, yes, he was
    Being good isn't always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin' to me
He'd come and tell me "Everything is alright"
He'd kiss and tell me "Everything is alright"
Can I get away again tonight?
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes, he was, he was, ooh, Lord knows, he was (yes, he was)
    How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin' kisses from me on the sly
    Takin' time to make time
Tellin' me that he's all mine
    Learnin' from each other's knowin'
Lookin' to see how much we've grown and
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes, he was, he was, oh, yes, he was
He was the sweet-talkin' son of a preacher man
(The only boy who could ever teach me)
I kissed me the son of a preacher man
(The only one who could ever move me)
The sweet-lovin' son of a preacher man
(The only one who could ever groove me)
(Was the son of a preacher man)
(The only one who could ever reach me)
    (Was the son of a)

Great Lesson Jon! Reggie Young is at the top of my list for Session Guitarist. American Studios in Memphis turned out 122 hits in a five-year span from 1967-1972. Reggie was on all of the Hits when Elvis did the Memphis sessions. In The Ghetto Suspicous Minds Kentucky Rain. Thank you Jon for the lesson!

Been hoping for a good lesson on this great song, thank you so much. Put my life on hold immediately to learn the intro lick. And thanks for mentioning the guitarist, never heard of Reggie Young - those guys never get the credit they deserve!

thx so much great lesson on the intro.
But one question. You're sure about B7? In the Dusty Springfield original version to me it sounds more like a regular B triad. I'd rather play B triad (fret 4 - 2nd inversion x-x-4-4-4-x). And then go further up to B triad in root position ((fret 9 x-x-9-8-7-x-) and then even further if you like to B in 1st inversion ((fret 12 x-x-13-11-12-x) to create more tension. my2cts

thin version ----- see mnaicck channel for fuller, grownups version with bass notes and a bit of extra sauce. Sorry Jon, but for all those trying to learn it, let's not fug about. . . .. . mnaicck - not a born teacher but the riff is heaps more sophisticated.
