    Working on my ford ranger solid axle swap sometime in the future, this gave me an idea of what to expect on that project

      Just do a Dana 30 from an XJ with a long arm kit for an XJ

      That seems to be the swap of choice for a ranger mainly because it's easy and cheaper

    I like those wheels. Looking good. Can't wait to go trail riding through the desert?

    Too bad about the smashed toe, the important thing is the axle is not damaged.

    hey man i really enjoy the videos, im in the middle of 3.4 swapping my 93 and next year i will be sasing my 93! but iiv got a rusted 84 pickup im going to take the axle out of but is there any tricks to removing the axle from the truck?

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking removing the axle from the 84? Or pulling all the ifs off the 93?

    • @Red_Beard_Builds
      @Red_Beard_Builds 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hidden Instinct both but got to start by removing the 84s straight axle which I see your not using Toyota axles right?

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota Life ya it’s a late 70’s Ford F-250 axle. Removing the ifs brackets and cross member that are welded to the frame is bitch. I’d recommend using a plasma cutter to get the large pieces off and then a cutoff wheel on a grinder to get as much as you can before you start grinding with a flap wheel. As far as the solid axle you should just have to disconnect the drive shaft, disconnect the brake lines and any sensors that may be on there, then take the u bolts off the leaf springs and it should roll right out.

    Noiiiice man. My 79F150 solid axle swap is done. haha. jk. but ya. Do want to take a grinder to my frame and bits like that too... need to. .

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @Vera-xu3xw
    @Vera-xu3xw 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The good news is: safety glasses wouldn't have helped your toe lol
    I dropped a trailer axle on my finger not as heavy but it's part of the deal.
    I always make the mistake of working till I'm completely exhausted and that's when you fuck up.

  • @luiscruz-no3ib
    @luiscruz-no3ib 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was my eyes playing tricks on me or are you installing that axle 180 off

  • @Vera-xu3xw
    @Vera-xu3xw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    8:50 that's the kinda engineering you learn when you don't want to drop something on your foot again lol
    What kinda gas mileage were you getting before this build? My 4x4 F150 gets around 12 to 15.

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vera 1957 ya I’m smashed toe free for almost a year now😂 I get 15-17 now and got about the same before

    Would axles form a 79 blazer work

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Duramax not unless you change the transfer case to a passenger side. Has to be a drivers side pinion fords and wagoneers have them.

  • @Gettinbentoffroad
    @Gettinbentoffroad 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gotta get them steel toes.

    Are true bead locks street legal? I thought you were in Utah, and It's been a while since I thought about it, but I seem to remember they weren't legal here.

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Lloyd they are not street legal. There are a couple of split rim bead locks that are street legal but they are expensive.

  • @oscaralvarez1131

    What year it's the front axcel .

    • @HiddenInstinct
      @HiddenInstinct  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oscar Alvarez it’s from a late 70’s Ford F-250. I think they put them in the 150’s too from I believe 74- 78 or 79.
