The only correction I wanted to make was it's incredibly easy to get flow rates right on diy auto watering. You use a 6 or 8 top drip manifold, that ensures ideal distribution levels for all your emitters :) Orbit makes them dirt cheap and they are completely pressure regulated and can control flow rate directly from the manifold!! No need for flow restrictors or ball valves on every single emitter etc. Makes it so simple. I used that plus a 1/2in threaded mpt to 1/2in ID flex barbed tubing adapter👍👍 works flawless zero leaks from day1. Incredible video and wish I had the opportunity to watch months ago haha as with all ur vids🤣

So he recommended using plastic pots when using an organic soil to grow with? I was kinda confused by some of his responses. No hate I would be nervous on camera too which is why after 30 years doing this I still won’t get on camera. But water management isn’t stressed and talked about enough . Optimal watering methods per style of growing has always intriguiged me.

Already know this guy from sustainable village. Been using blumats for the last 3 harvests now and I don't see me going back to hand watering anytime soon! My back feels so much better and I can focus more on the plants rather than how much water they get. The plants are in control with blumats!!

Forgive me me if I sound dumb here, but by gnats forsure fungus gnats, ok so with an irrigation system like the topic they were on does it mean in a say almost perfectly dialed in setup u will not? Have very many pest problems with this kind of irrigation system specifically fungus gnats? Cause this passed summer the gnats just hermied, slowed, and about toasted my grow...so this would help for fungus gnats screwing up another grow then? Well where I'm at a drought like none on record happened too but temps and gnats were a constant I use fab pots also has your success ,yield been better with this type of watering system helped? Or should I just use 5-6 gallon buckets 🪣 again sorry so long of a question.

Another video with great info. Cool.
I find bottom watering (aka butt chugging 😂) to be easiest and plants love it in organic soil. Letting water wick up leaves the surface dry so gnats stay away and the soil different zones of humidity instead of soaked from the top. Earthboxes or homemade wicking beds are even better. I water once a week, just put a gallon and a quarter or so in the reservoir. Plants love it. And there's no parts to adjust or hoses or danger of flooding. I haven't tried these watering systems but they look more complicated than pouring water in an oil pan with a fabric pot or in the fill tube of an Earthbox. You do need to water in amendments after top dressing, a spray bottle is great for that. Bottom watering works for a lot of the plants people grow in gardens or medicinals.

I'm eventually going to a bluemat system but currently I use a small boy to filter my city water into a 30 gal can, then ph. I make the water I need when I need it. I'm all organic and use citric acid for ph down. Water starts around 7.6-8.0 , but i bring it down to 6.2 -6.4.My plants seem happy with this method. It took me some time to dial it in. I was buying water for the longest time, so glad I'm done with that. Happy growing

I also loooove having a big gravity tank , I have a 55 gallon and it gravity feeds x4 15 gallon pots , I can go on vacation to italy for 6 weeks and still have water left and the plants completely absolutely healthy and fine !! Its amazing how long a 55 gal lasts , for my situation it would have lasted 2 months barely before running out of water … also you get more pressure with bigger tanks if its gravity ..

Yea, I went overkill on mine as well. Was thinking about only filling it half way. I have a 27gallon tote, that I use. I also dont want to have it weight that much. So I figure 15gallons or a tiny more would be enough.

    • @42organicgrow10

  • @42organicgrow10

Mr grow it , what I would do in your situation is get blusoak adapters and blusoak tape , also exchange 1 carrot of yours for a longer one for each pot …
At this point you have 2 drippers per pot , one deep one and one short one ..
Connect the shorter one to the drip tape system , bury it below 1 inch of soil in a round circle around the plant ..
Leave the other one as normal dripper ..
Set the humidity level in your soil , set the carrots correctly .
After you are done you will always have a moist top layer which will boost your soil biology , and the other dripper will make sure to penetrate the soil enough to reach the bottom and keep the whole pot moist .
This should really help you out , keep us posted bro !

Just finished watching. I've got a ton of tips for you mr. Grow it.
I'm using 7 gallon pots, craft blend, worm castings pretty much exactly like you are. I'm using both a maxi carrot and regular carrot with drippers.
I just setup my blumats and posted over in Reddit. You really should look cause it would really help with you dry top soil issue. Also a heavy layer of rice hulls after top dress will keep that layer under the rice hulls moist. Also cover crop helps a ton! We're pretty much growing the exact same way.
Lemme know if you need more advice I've got a ton of tips for people using these things and growing this way.
