i think it comes down to the determination of the players
cafu was bashing the premier league few weeks ago that english media hypes these players like they are best in the world, this gives them a sense of fake confidence in themselves, i don't agree with him saying they shouldn stop going to the prem but we have to see this
players like mac allister, romero, lisandro martinez, emi martinez, enzo fernandez, julian alvarez, etc. are also from south america and playing in the premier league but they are type of players who will give their life for their national team, they are also hyped up by the media that they are one of the best in the world but they are still very focused and amazing players for both club and country
but i don't see this in brazilian players anymore
players like paqueta, douglas luis, richarlson, casemiro, alisson, ederson, guimaraes, jesus, gabriel, pereiera, etc. are not bad players, they play well for their clubs but i don't see the will inside them to fight for the national team badge compared to a player like luis diaz who plays his heart out for liverpool and columbia or a player like almiron or garnacho or if we go a few years in past then someone like alexis sanchez (at arsenal), aguero, cavani, etc.
