I 'll try to be brief and concise.....if you're planning to buy a touring class bike, you OWE yourself a test rde on the INDIAN !....I've ridden H-D for over 50 years now and when I test rode the 2015 Vintage, I sold my RK and bought the Indian !....best damn decision I ever made, powerful, good looking and doesn't SHAKE like a dog shittin' peach seeds when I pull up to a stop light ! .....H-D is a O.K scoot,INDIAN is a BETTER one !....PERIOD !

I own a 2005 Harley & l have ridden the 2014 Indian. You want to talk about valve noise? Ride my Harley. The Indian was quiet. Very quiet. Suspension? My Harley is a FLHRCI with stock travel. The Indian rides like you are on a cushion of air. Power? Indian walks away & my Harley has had engine work done. Low speed handling? The Indian was easy to handle at low speed & did not feel like it was going to tip in places where my Harley would have. Wish I had the money to buy an Indian right now.

I just want to say how good of reviews these both were. Too often on this channel and other, the "reviews" are just video of them riding, and them listing off the specs that anybody can look up. I want to hear the reviewers impression of the bike. Quirks they liked and the ones they didn't. So with that said, great reviews on both thank you. If I was looking to buy one of those bikes, these two reviews would help a lot. And that means I would keep coming back in the future when I needed help

On a very recent trip to the Black Hills I rented a 2014 Heritage Softail for 2 days of some serious riding. Thank God it was unlimited milage. I dropped the bike off at Rapid City, got in the truck and was soon in Sturgis at the Indian deal. With in minutes I took a 2014 indian out on demo down the canyon road to Deadwood and back. I've never been on a bike I didn't like, but admittedly I have three Harley's of my own, so I guess I'm a fan. I found the Heritage too mushy in the twisties on Needles highway and around Deadwood. The boards where always scraping unexpectedly too. I did love the Heritage on lazier roads. Anything I thought was lacking on the Heritage was to my surprise better on the Indian. The only thing I found was the Indian was it's a little more clumsy when turning in a very tight space and there was more vibration in the foot boards. To me it handled better at road speed, gave me more confidence, had more power and better brakes. I found some of the fit and finish just a little plastic for my liking, but over all if I didn't think I might just be buying a Victory dressed up as an Indian, I really would probably buy the Indian over the Harley.

This is THE bike I dream about, have drooled over and hate to say but yes, had wet dreams about, thanks for this awesome comparison video. One thing I'd like to know is if it sounds the same as a Harley, I'd seriously miss that rumble. Love the look of the Chief and the functionality, not to mention the Chief has more flexibility for the roads (highway vs back roads).

I believe Indian will have the advantage for the next 5 years or so. Harley has had a long history of resting on their laurels. With Polaris backing, Indian's probably here to stay. Motorcycle innovation will be great in the next few years. We may be witnessing a new golden age of motorcycles.

All the other reviews rave about the suspension. I wonder why the difference. Also keep hearing about weight. My Street Glide was equal in weight and not a problem for a 165 lbs, 5'11 guy myself. Of everything I've heard, slow speed maneuver is tough. I don't recall it being a breeze on my Harley either.

I test rode the Indian Heritage and Springfield and, aside from aesthetics, I think the Springfield is a slightly better bike. It felt just as smooth and solid on the freeway as the Heritage, but it's got a slightly steeper rake and wheelbase, so it handled better at low speed. I didn't notice any of the suspension flaws they mentioned though.

I am really upset over the engine ticking and clacking on my 111 ThunderStroke. It is so loud I get a headache from it. It is also embarrassing. I just can't believe Polaris would allow this to continue, even when owners complain. It just takes away from the beauty of the bike.

I have a HD 07 fat boy lo. Over the summer I rode a indian chief classic 645 numbered . What a bike just smooth riding, great power, shifting was a little hard cause it only had 69 miles on it. Didn't like how high the foot rest where a little hard for me to get my size 14 boot under the shifter. Other then that I'm definitely wanting a indian. Tired of Harley problems. Harley is just stuck in the 40-50s on power Tran and some technology. Theyres no need for a handlebar change to take 7 hours. Believe me that what Harley will tell you I did it in 4. Harley is only out for you money. They want you to pay $50 for a Hanes t-shirt that was made in Vietnam Malaysia Indonesia China wherever. Just cause they put Harley on a shirt it's instantly worth 10 times more

I'm glad someone else also noted the Indian's noisy engine - i.e. clacking valve train. That observation didn't leave me with a very good impression. I also suspect that Indian's increase in new warranty is there to address some issues. I also didn't like the single turn signal indicator lamp, as owning a Harley gave me an appreciation of having an turn indicator button on each side of the bars, as well as corresponding left & right indicator signals. I gave the Chief Vintage serious consideration as the looks are second to none. However, the only dealer near me for sales and service was 1-1/2 hours away from my home.
So I bought my dream bike instead, a 2014 Street Glide. The Harley dealer is 10 minutes away for service and they gave me a better trade in deal for my old bike. That was three months ago. Now last weekend, I saw the same 2014 Indians I was looking at sitting at an Indian display at a bike show. I figure this lone dealer is still having trouble unloading last year's models, even with lowered prices and extended warranty.

    • @DoesMamaKnow
      @DoesMamaKnow 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Austin Powers Trust me, there is NO Indian dealer "having trouble unloading" any model, especially the Scout, which are back ordered 4 months ... they can't make them fast enough to keep up with demand. The Chief Vintage is almost too beautiful to ride, and are a hot seller everywhere. As far as your objections to the Indian .... valve train clack and turn signals .... are you serious? The Harley is the ONLY bike on earth with separate left/right turn signal buttons, therefore if you've never owned one, this is a foreign concept. The valve clack is a non-issue on a Harley because every owner scraps the stock exhaust system in favor of far louder pipes, so the valves cannot be heard on a Harley at any speed. These "observations" are subjective non-issues, which only serve to support your bias towards the brand you prefer. Buy what you like, but at least TRY to be somewhat objective about your observations.

    This video is BS
The softail range is matched by the scout
The roadking is matched by the chief vintage
The street glide is matched by the chieftain
The electra glide is matched by the roadmaster
Now the sportster is matched by the ftr1200

  • @JohnnyRebKy
    @JohnnyRebKy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Should be compared to a road king. The softail isn't really a touring bike. The road king has a larger touring frame and more suspension. Would be a lot better comparison. I suspect they compared these two simply because the Indian simply is a " softail" by build but a lot different animal

Well, reading all of these comments, and being from Milwaukee, and I know guys that work at Harley, I think Harley has a competitor. I've had 4 Goldwings. I may very well try out an Indian. Being 6 7 and 265 I need a big bike. I'm looking for ride comfort and dependability. In all my years driving cars Semis and bikes i can count on less than one hand how many Goldwings I've seen on the side of the road. I don't have enough toes for the Harley's broke down. To me dependability is most important. I'm a little concerned about the lifter click on an Indian. I'll wait to see how the factory deals with it. Cool doesn't mean shit, Name doesn't mean shit, when your sitting on the side of the road on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of nowhere, for stupid Electrical or Mechanical problem. If Indians are as dependable as my wings, I'll buy one

The new Springfield version has heated seats and handgrips, never thought I'd see that. Some of the electronic features seem unnecessary and could complicate DIY maintenance and repair much like modern "computer" cars. My 2014 Subaru has over-complicated and glitchy Nav and infotainement features that continue to confuse me.

Yeah we get it... the new one is always the better one in "comparisons" the Heritage Softail is one of Harleys oldest platforms as someone else said lets roll it with a Road King rubber-mounted Twin Cam making more power typically than the softail's rigid mount with the new frame, front end and the 180 tire

Yes the Indian feels A LOT bigger than the heritage Softail. The softail is just a small bike. All the metric bikes like Kawasaki Vulcan are a lot bigger than the softail too. I tried one after riding a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 and the heritage felt like a little scooter. I dunno why they make them so small. I guess it's for women and tiny men I dunno.

In fact I am getting a new road king in about a month.

The problem with harleys is that they don't fix all the built in problems. Year after boring year harley churns out some of the lamest worst made bikes on the planet. Why folks settle for all the problems and shortcomings I will never understand. A namesake is one thing but to have to put up with junk is another.
I'm looking forward to this new Indian, they put decent technology in the engine it's not overhead cam but the output numbers are respectable. Unlike harley.

If Polaris want to sell these bikes they need to start giving us dealerships. Harley certainly has the largest market share. They have been around a long time and still rely on a "mystique" and reputation. The principle reason is Harley grabbed the domestic market while Indian devoted all its manufacturing plants to the US war efforts in WWI. It struggled after the war, and had its share of problems, including under financing. Don't forget, Harley has had a series of owners due to mismanagement over the decades. Let's not forget the 70's when Harley was owned by a bowling ball company. Polaris has deep pockets and they're not going away. I'm told test rides are available at all the dealers. Try before you criticize. I did, and now I ride an Indian Chief.

I don't want to pay money for an image but I will wait for these new Indians see how they perform within the first year but I like what I have seen so far the style the engine the xtras are just brilliant the vintage looks cool

They say harley technology is old and outdated but the so called high tec. Indian motor clacks like a diesel engine which is not very encouraging. But I must admit the indian is very pretty
For now I'll not be traiding in my Harley any day soon.

This all started when indian in order to bite into the market started puting down HD stating that HD uses old and outdated 110 tear old Tech and here is the brand new high tech Indian. There is not one aspect of the HD from the starter to the crickets you mentioned that hasn't been put down in comparison to the Indian. So don`t talk to me about bad mouthing`. Indian purists have done more than their fair share.
By the way if the all indian dealers that are full of harley trade-ins it must be a real burden for the 2 located in your state. LOL

      You’re quote
“+steve k no comparison...Road King loses big. I've had two RK'd and now own an Indian Chief...Road King is not in the same class.”
Well they finally compared it to a road king and guess what, it seams that the Indian is not the Knock out you indian purists make out to be.

I continue to love the new indian. However, until they have some decent exhaust choices I won't be selling my Harley. The Indian looks like a beast and sounds like a kitten. Vance and hines please fix that problem!

WoooW I just demoed the new Indian and if it has a livelier throttle and more power than the Harley the HD must go down the road like molasses. The Indian was so lazy and lethargic in every way possible: shift gear 2 seconds later the display denotes a change. Twist throttle 2 seconds later the tach slowly reaches towards 2K rpm. The suspension is utter crap, wind pushed me around on the freeway, electric windscreen is in eye-line or distorts vision and reflects chrome right in the center.

Please. Your comparing the new Indian to a heritage softail. How bout a road king? What a waste of time. These bikes are not in the same class. And I own a heritage (and a road king)
