As a 30 year +23,000 hour professional pilot I have had many instances of military traffic on UHF and me being on VHF where we could not hear what the military aircraft was saying. There were several instances where I had no clue where that military aircraft was in the sky. I remember a couple of times being pretty frustrated by that and had to completely rely on the controller to keep us separated. This I believe will be a major contributing factor in this event.

I have to agree & so sad. I quite frankly it's so wrong for any aircraft to go near another aircraft ,especially passenger jets / planes already in landing/ departing modes !! They'll have to change their routines & rules/ laws !! This should had never happened !! Upsetting & heart breaking !! The ground control operator should had communicated with both pilots better to prevent the collision. This shouldn't never happen again !! I am now very afraid of flying near any military base ! ! 💔💜🥁🐲🎤🎶💞

There is a new airport 25 miles away that DC folks don’t want to use. Time to separate the two; one for the military, the other for commercial flights. The new, larger one should be for commercial flights; Congress and Senators are just going to have to tough it out and go the 25 miles away! Air Force 1 and Marine 1 will use the smaller military airport!

Millions of us have been studying this intensely and know more than some "experts" brought on to give explanations. The Black Hawk's movements are highly suspect. Strangely the only name not given of all the 67 people killed in this incident, is the one piloting the Black Hawk. I care less if she is a woman. I care what her mindset was. oh dear. the trans person has come out to tell us it was not him/her. Accidents happen. In this case, it's doubtful that it was purposeful. Most likely the helicopter was both a bit too high and not along the side of the river they were supposed to be. Keep in mind there are 2 pilots on the ac. At the time, the IP would have been in charge. Army pilots are the best trained helicopter pilots in the world. We go through over a year of total training...mine was a year and a half. They don't let crazy, suicidal, disturbed people fly for the military. We weeded out a couple of those people from my class. As a matter of fact, I was instrumental in identifying them and having them removed.

@James-hb8qu The helicopter was too high, but the way he said it it may also be that the instruments were reading differently. He said it was 325ft +/- 25ft and what was being reported was 200 ft. So it sound like some instrument was reporting the wrong altitude.
@juanamora9513 No, they were saying it may have been a problem and not that it was. It seems it may not have been. I've never worked in an ATC to know what under staffed would entail for that(or any) size of airport. It doesn't seem to be though.

It shows that procedures allow helicopters to fly around at the ends of active runways, 200-300 ft. which is just before landing for an airliner, so very close to the airport. Rather than making them cross the approach/departure routes of the airport a mile away for example. It also seems that all the traffic is bunched up over the river to avoid sensitive sites.

Rebecca Lobach might have been a very nice person. She could have been a lot of great things. The big question to me is whether she was properly qualified for the job. Did she meet a high standard expected of ALL individuals piloting a Blackhawk? Or were standards lowered for her to ensure she could qualify to fulfill a DEI quota? The military has been lowering standards for women in combat and other areas to meet DEI quotas. Instead of keeping America safe, these DEI hires are putting us at greater risk of catastrophic outcome. We can't continue down this path and expect to have a productive country.

Not what they said. They said the CRJ was at 325 feet based on the CRJ data. it is probably correct but there are two other sources of data: the ATC radar and the helicopter. It is possible that those two will validate each other with a different altitude as which point it is possible the CRJ's radar had incorrect data.
This is the nature of NTSB and being precise. They even prefaced the conversation with that overview.

    • @jasonwilson9406
      @jasonwilson9406 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

@James-hb8qu That's precisely what he said. I understand that the CRJ box is only one of three points of critical data. I would speculate that the CRJ data is more accurate than the tower 5-second delay data and will probably match the the PAT data. But we won't know until all the data is recovered and examined. Fine. But the CRJ information alone would indicate that the military aircraft exceeded limits and these guys won't speculate.

I'm not saying that is what happened, but the obvious hard turn into the commercial aircraft does seem to be suspicious, especially when observing the track of that helicopter and several other near misses just prior to the collision. Then there is the big question... Why was that training mission set up in such a busy air corridor? AND... Why did the FAA allow that helicopter to fly so close to several other commercial aircraft on a heavily used approach vector? A little too suspicious for my liking.

So the BlackHawk was using the ARC 231 multi band radio. This control head allows the pilots to talk on FM, UHF, and VHF along with SATCOM. It is a very good radio and enhances the pilots ability to talk to ATIS, Ground, Clearance Delivery, Tower and other aircraft (Multiship) with preset frequencies so the workload is actually reduced. But it is obviously a issue that although the Approach Control/Tower has the capability to transmit and receive both frequencies simultaneously, rarely do civilian aircraft use UHF in the Airport Traffic Areas. This is more common on Military Airfields and Shipboard Operations. It is odd that this crew was using UHF around a Class B Airport that is so busy, and traffic was announced. Tragedy!

    My translation:
We here at the NTSB like to have all the data line up before we reach a conclusion. But we want to release what we have found so far. We are going to be open and treat you like adults, but we then are asking, in return, that you recognize that things can change. We also like to have all the data to make sure they agree with other, because sometimes we find the first source of data is flawed. Got it?
The CRJ's altitude radar showed it was at 325 +- 25 feet. It probably was. But we want to see if the other data aligns with that. For instance, currently the ATC data shows it around 200 feet. But we are still processing that and even if it disagrees that reading is typically less accurate for many reasons, such as refresh rate.
We don't have helicopter altitude data yet. Since it collided with the CRJ it kinda means, duh, that they were at the same altitude. But keep in mind, if the recovered helicopter data is different from the CRJ altitude and our final ATC data confirms the same thing then perhaps the CRJ radar data is wrong. Not likely to happen, but we prefaced this with the fact we don't have all data yet.
So right now, maybe, probably, the CRJ and helicopter collided at around 325 feet, unless that other data invalidates this.
Helicopter is supposed to stay below 200 feet. The data that is maybe/probably correct seems to indicate that it was above that when it collided with the CRJ.
We are being open and treating you like adults. The flip side of the deal is that you understand that this may end up being incorrect as other data is brought online. So don't embed it in your brain as fact.

As a retired Air Traffic Controller and recreational pilot, I submit that pilots are their own worst enemy. A VFR corridor crossing the approach path of a busy commercial airport - errr, really? Pilots wanted that and protected that, and now the world knows about it. And there are many, many other examplus of this kind of madness.
